Mauricio Pochettino: avoiding Europa League could help us

Ugh. A few major issues with this:
1) The Europa League is another lane for CL qualification and now has more meaning than just more silverwear.
2) If you win a domestic cup, you make EL. So are you saying you'd rather not win the FA Cup or the Cap 1 Cup in order to miss out on EL, Poch?
3) The EL is a way to use other players and give them chances. If they impress, then give them an opportunity in the first XI, like Kane.

I'm no insider so I can't say that we don't already do this, but he needs to adapt or do less of the intense training sessions when we play twice a week I think.
Utilising the squad is also key. You don't hear Simeone saying they want to miss out on CL qualification so they have a better chance of winning La Liga the following season.

He actually said that. Is he TRYING to achieve the "Everlasting's least favourite head coach of the year"-award? Pochettino must stop flooding the press with excuses.

I don't see any relevance in the EPL and us shipping a hatful of points to WBA, Newcastle, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and so on. We should have bagged those points and been cemented in the CL by now. Our performances have got worse if anything since we got knocked out.

Personally I think the damage was already done by the time we went out. Double training sessions plus travelling around Europe to play what were mostly pub teams, left the squad completely burnt out.

Poor management from Pochettino the 'magician'.

IMO lack of depth and quality in our squad left us too thin to compete on all fronts. Tom Carroll played well in the EL a couple of seasons ago but was loaned out and replaced by (?) Mason - who barely had a break all season. I think the 'burn out' is the result of lack of rotation in the EPL. How long since Capoue or Stambouli kicked a ball in anger?

CL teams manage it just fine and if that is our goal, surely getting in the habit of playing twice a week is a good thing. See the logic in Poch's comments but don't agree with him.

This is what I think every time this excuse gets wheeled out.
If we cant cope with lesser (comparatively) european teams on a Thursday followed by PL on the Sunday, how do we expect to be able to cope with playing the better European teams on a Weds and then a PL game on the Saturday.

It makes no sense whatsoever.

I think the extra millions that teams get for regular CL qualification probably helps to improve the quality of their squads. You really can't compare the two tournaments.

So many people on here with binary views; everything so simple for them. There's evidence that it affects league form thus it's a crap tournament and we should avoid it at all costs. No doubt if you approach it as we did this year it will have a negative impact, so approach it differently. Use the squad better, which I'm assuming Poch will do once he's replaced the players he doesn't trust. With a squad of 25 senior players and 5 youngens you could leave an entire first 11 back in the UK.

UEFA have damaged the tournament by letting champions league teams drop in and making it a Thursday night tournament. But you play the field in front of you as there's nothing you can do about these things.

As someone said above, it has many pluses;
- Route to champions league
- Realistic chance of silverware
- Extra revenue / profile for club
- Chance to blood youngsters and give squad players a chance to force there way in to the team

Let's forget about striving to finish fourth and instead try to win every competition we're in next year, Europa League, FA Cup, Premier League and Capital One Cup. Audere Est Facere

As a fan I want us to win on Saturday, see Villa win the cup and for us to qualify for the champions league by winning the Europa League. To do that we need a bigger squad. Sadly the side right now isn't good enough to compete in the league and Europa league. Unless we improve a lot quickly we might be better off out of Europe next season. I really hate writing this but if I'm totally honest the Europa League did affect our premier league record.

that is a ridiculous comment. Firstly it is the only European trophy we have been in in recent years so clearly the only one we have a chance of winning. But how that translates to Poch being "good" with mid table in the EPL is beyond me. There is a clear correlation between EL performances for us and other EPL teams and a weakening in league position. If we are not in there it stands to reason that we'd see an up tick in EPL league performance - a clear benefit, one Poch is reasonably interested in and the opposite of your agenda driven remarks.

Frankly you are so transparently anti-Poch one wonders why you bother watching our club play at the moment

What the fuck are you talking about you condescending idiot. I am entitled to an opinion, no different to you or anyone else on here, so go wind your neck back in and go and troll elsewhere with "your agenda" driven drivel.

As a season ticket holder of over thirty years i have never heard one manager quote that being successful in one competition has a detrimental effect on another. We might as well say the same about the FA Cup and CC and not bother to participate. God forbid we qualify for the CL anytime soon.

Finally there have been many managers over the years that i have not enjoyed seeing at Spurs, Gross, Santini, AVB, Graham, and Neil to name a few and that has bugger all to do with watching the team play. For Poch to make excuses for playing EL football on a poor season (and it's been just that) then i'd put him in "getting the excuses in early" club.

Sorry but from what i have seen so far this season i cannot join in the Poch Love In Club just yet. But you are more than welcome to become it's senior member.

Redknapp told The Sun: "The young lads will get plenty of games in the Europa League because otherwise I think it's a killer, to be frank.

"Thursday and Sunday every week... a nightmare. You've got no chance in the Premier League with that, it kills you off.

"It's different in the Champions League when you play Tuesday or Wednesday, it's just got a different feel to it.

"You have to go to crazy places in this Europa League, all over the place..."
The last manager to lead us in both Europa and CL would disagree - but of course WTF does he know.....because you clearly know best and of course there is no agenda with you.

This is on your profile:

"want to play Juve in their stadium in final of Europa"

You are just a troll, and a hypocritical one at that.

Enough said on this subject now everyone knows your agenda.

Goodbye.

The amazing thing about you is that you dish out garbage and when you get called on the specifics and those arguing with you employ facts/quotes/data you shift the goal posts and throw around nonsense. Quite sad really.
