Hopefully it's just been misread, but if not, it'd be very bizarre. We're not above the league cup/fa cup - I'd love to win either

Interesting mentality, means we won't be winning anything anytime soon which is a shame. Surely the players would love to win the FA Cup?

Hopefully its a psychological positioning. If we are winning the league the other trophies are less of a mental battle. Setting the squad up in this way means we don't see the league cup as the glass ceiling of our ability. By aiming higher we will scoop up more trophies is the plan.

It dosnt matter what he says to the press, and by extension the fans. What matters is he convinces the players and he's done a pretty wonderful job of that

He's basically saying we should aim for the highest prizes we can achieve, which is exactly what every single Spurs fan would agree with.

He even says it would be nice to win the Carabao or FA Cup. Total non-story.

Winning an FA Cup ± League Cup but finishing 4th-5th and KO'd from the CL would not convince stars like Alderweireld, Dele, Eriksen or Kane that their future is here. I don't think many would view that as progress, but would be nice for the trophy cabinet.

Would I like Spurs to win a cup? Yes. Of course. But I agree that our priority is to become a serious and sustained contender for the title, which it seems we finally have a manager with the talent, support from the board and potentially the swing of the pendulum where we stand a good chance at this. In spite of at least 5 other sides massively outspending us on wages.

We are in the same position as Atletico Madrid were a few years ago.. only winning the League and competing in the CL will keep our best players

I'd rather finish top 4 than win the league cup. Don't get me wrong it would a nice addition to a good season but it means nothing and wouldn't convince players who are desperate to win things to stay

Top 4 is a kind of trophy for us now, it's importance can't be underestimated as if we finished outside of it I'd guess a mass exodus would ensue

FA cup would mean quite a lot though so I disagree with poch there

the trouble is, early on when involved in the CL, the Carabou Cup means a chance to give players a chance that will struggle to get a look in, in CL and EPL matches, and help them with their match fitness if we need to call on them due to knocks/injuries. so he definitely won't go strong early on.

with the FA Cup, I think that depends on where we are at the time in the League. He will play stronger teams in it, but not to the detriment of burning out the main starting XI if we are in a good league position. finishing top 4 with the new stadium on the horizon is very important to the club. finishing top 4 attracts better sponsors than being League cup winners, or even FA Cup winners and finishing 5th or 6th in the league.

don't get me wrong I enjoyed the early 80's winning cups, or being involved in Finals, and I would love to see us get to cup finals, but in those days, football was football, NOT MONEY!

The game to me is about glory and that could mean winning something as small as the Carabao Cup or as big as the Champions League , they are Trophies something for your players to be proud of and I watched the game in like 78/79 all of the 80's the 90's the 2000's the 2010's I cannot remember a Manager at Spurs saying that, we have to win something surely, are great players are gonna Leave wtf Poch.

Shame if true, we are in a good place at the moment what is he thinking, maybe hes thinking that if we aim big we will miss and get a Cup like the FA Cup.

I get a lot of people want a title but there is no chance Poch us going into tomorrow's match with West Ham on Saturday and the CL next week and thinking "this is our priority". If we get to the quarters then he'll prob start to perk up, but even then it'll be in relation to the competitions around us and if we're chasing PL, still in CL, or even in FA Cup he's going to make that judgment call. We may not like it but a cup title isn't going to save Poch's job and it's not going to provide the cash flow of the CL, or hell probably even the EL, to keep and attract the stars we want.
