The punishments are in place for diving. Why do we have to continue to talk about it?

Agree with Poch. It's up to the ref to know what's real and not like flopping in the NBA or selling being hit by a pitch in the MLB. I have no problems with gamesmanship

Whether he's right or not is neither here nor there. The trouble is, the narrative in the media and from other fans this week has been that we're cheats/divers and the poor choice of words from Poch is only adding fuel to the fire to be honest. I just worry that this "reputation" we've now got, regardless of whether it's factually correct, will be in the back of ref's minds and count against us in 50/50 decisions.

I've always said that we have a very wierd obsession of diving on this country, like the media focus on diving more than bad tackles for example which should be truly did of from the game and still isn't focused on enough if you ask me.

Matt Phillips tackle on Diaz's at the weekend has got far less attention then Dele's dive and Kane's alleged dive, even the guy that put Sane out for 6 weeks didn't get this much attention, yeah I don't like diving as much as the next man but I'd rather they focus on exposing players who try and injure others compared to a player who tries to con the ref.
Also imo rolling around on the floor trying to get someone sent off is far worse than diving.....although since Drogba retired incidents have probably dropped by half :D.

I am not sure if Dele dived. He fell over, intentionally or not but he didn't dive theatrically, gesticulating for a foul. He might just lose his balance and in a delicate situation, he didn't protest his innocence. That's my take on this. Seems like people only seeing two scenarios - dive or no dive.

Diving would significantly be reduced (though not fully eradicated because there will always be cheats around) if the officials start getting tougher on despicables like Charlie Adam, James Milner and their ilk.

strange how "pros" like Lineker and the Pool mob don't seem as concerned by Lallana choking a youth player or Citeh spending slave owner money

This is getting ridiculous and just proves the weird obsession with diving in this country.

I literally haven't seen anything about Lallena choking a youth player but everyones still talking about dele alli falling over:banghead:

So on Wednesday Poch celebrated 200 games in charge of Spurs, becoming only the third manager in Tottenham history to achieve this the other two being Burkinshaw and Nicholson. On the face of it this is a big achievement.

So why have we not had anything on the official website, it was not mentioned in any of the SpursTV interviews with him before or after the game on Wednesday?

The BT sport interviewer asked him pre-match, to which he said that is why he had shaved to look fresh, and here's to many more games (or words to that effect).

Spurs did put up an Instagram and Twitter post.

But surely you would get a Poch comment??

So I went back at looked at what we did when he got to 100 games in charge, there was a highlight video of his time in charge, an interview with him, and they were asking fans to send in their highlights with #mauricio100.

So why nothing when it's a greater achievement?
Well, it would leave a bit of a sour taste in the mouth when he goes to Real Madrid in June...

Could you explain the difference between 'falling over intentionally' and 'diving'.

Liverpool, Tottenham, Popularity

It is a joke that clubs like Liverpool are still looked as bigger than us.

Anyway back on Poch, as i have said previously, i dont know what we would do if he left.

Unfortunately i think he will at some stage and i won't begrudge him after what he has done for us.

Give him what he wants, Danny

I can't speak for what the poster you were quoting thinks, but for me "diving" is throwing yourself to the ground like you've been tripped etc. even though there was no contact at all. So for me there's a difference between that and going down after being clipped when you could probably have stumbled and stayed on your feet if you'd wanted to.

One is pretending you've been fouled when in fact nothing of the sort happened, whereas the other is making sure the ref notices that you've been fouled. I'm not necessarily saying it's any more "right" but there is a difference.

This is it exactly. It's the rolling around theatrically screaming then peeking through your fingers to see if the Ref's red carded the poor shmuck you're trying to get sent off that is really bad!

Poch is a gentleman and proper football man, and people twisting his words is fucking bullshit.

Oh, and of course Dele dived.

They are bigger than us, where do you honestly believe we are in the PL? In what way are we higher up the ladder than Liverpool? Not putting us down here btw.

I actually thought Dele was leaning on Lovren and lost his balance.
Let's stop making excuses. He planted his right foot naturally, then dragged his left leg past Lovren waiting for contact. When none was forthcoming, he failed to bring his leg forward far enough to carry on and collapsed his right leg and fell. He wasn't "leaning" on anything. It was a dive and an embarrassing one at that.

Interesting that his eyes never left the ball and he he never stopped playing, or appealed for that matter. I'd say in the realm of dives it's actually quite a respectable one. He was expecting contact it never came so he played on.

TBH to me Kane's was worse because if you watch Kane's face as he goes down he pretends it actually hurt him, when it's debatable there was even contact. Not that I care either way, neither is any different to a cynical foul.
