I know there's a tiny bit of handbags between them in the media now and again, but there seems to be a mutual respect between Poch and Wenger. I don't know if I have ever seen Wenger so magnanimous after a defeat. I think he really admires Poch's work here.

Totally unrelated to this thread, and about a year or two late, but Plainview avatar or GTFO.

he was really narked at someone asking why toby wasn't in the squad today.
It was really interesting the way he reacted to that question though. Even towards the end as he was walking out he tells the PR assistant something along the lines of not allowing that reporter to ask questions, here's a clip (starts at 8:23):

I'd react the same way because the question was taking away from positives in the result.

Is it the same reporter that asked about Poch taking the Real Madrid job?

Little bit odd by Poch there. It’s obvious what the reporter was asking and it was a relatively straight forward question. Poch could’ve just said ‘he’s only just come back from injury and he needs a rest’ etc. The usual stuff. Unless there’s history between the 2 of them (Poch and reporter) then that may explain it.

Imagine watching a superb performance yet the question you have is nothing to do with the match.

or that the answer is not that straightforward...

But it wasn’t a negative question. If there had been rumours of a rift between Poch and Toby leading up to the match then I’d completely understand Poch’s reaction but there’s nothing in it. He would normally be first choice so the reporter was just asking basically if he wasn’t fit enough or has he suffered a setback or something. Fair question.

There’s been a million worse questions put to Poch before. I’m sure it’s nothing but if anything, Poch’s reaction has made me think there could be an issue behind the scenes. If he’d just said ‘Wednesday was his first game back so we didn’t want to risk him today’ then that would’ve been that and the next question would’ve been asked. Unless that reporter knows something about Toby that we don’t.

As I say, I’m sure it’s nothing at all but it was a little odd considering the kind of character Poch is. Probably Poch was just pissed off being there when he wanted to go celebrate the win via doggy with the missus.

I don't think the question is so out of line - I suspect most supporters want to know if there is anything else going to to keep Toby from the line-up. He has been a key player, coming off injury, but also involved in a high-profile contract dispute - in terms of not signing a new deal.

Poch has already talked about his contract and has said the same thing every time. Toby's got 2 years left on his deal so theres nothing more he can say.

We just put in a fantastic performance against our biggest rival and that journo was trying to take away from the result by trying to somehow unsettle our squad. Toby declared himself fit yesterday (hinting that he was saying he wanted to play) and this journo probably caught on to that.

He's just played 90 minutes after being out for almost 3 months. There was very little chance he would start/or even play given how important the next 3 months is for us as a club.
