But it wasn’t a negative question. If there had been rumours of a rift between Poch and Toby leading up to the match then I’d completely understand Poch’s reaction but there’s nothing in it. He would normally be first choice so the reporter was just asking basically if he wasn’t fit enough or has he suffered a setback or something. Fair question.

There’s been a million worse questions put to Poch before. I’m sure it’s nothing but if anything, Poch’s reaction has made me think there could be an issue behind the scenes. If he’d just said ‘Wednesday was his first game back so we didn’t want to risk him today’ then that would’ve been that and the next question would’ve been asked. Unless that reporter knows something about Toby that we don’t.

As I say, I’m sure it’s nothing at all but it was a little odd considering the kind of character Poch is. Probably Poch was just pissed off being there when he wanted to go celebrate the win via doggy with the missus.
Agree but Poch has also been in the habit of the last few weeks of getting snippy with reporters when they inquire about other players than those on the pitch after a win. After the ManU win he ignored questions about Lucas. He also did the same with Toby when people kept asking if he would play ManU or Liverpool. Not reading too much into it, especially with no reports of any fallout or frustration.

I just think the manager has had enough of journalists trying to poke for something that isn't there.

Mauricio Pochettino: Tottenham boss plans long-term future as Real Mardid lurk - EXCLUSIVE

And in more good news for Spurs fans, the Daily Star Sunday can reveal White Hart Lane boss Poch has already started making his transfer plans for next season.

That indicates the Tottenham chief – strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid as pressure mounts on Zinedine Zidane – will still be in charge for the 2018-19 campaign at least.

Pochettino is working with the Spurs recruitment department on summer transfer targets as part of the planning for next season.
Tottenham landed Brazil winger Lucas Moura, 25, from Paris Saint-Germain just before last month’s transfer window closed for £23million.

And they are now eyeing another Brazilian attacker in Bordeaux’s Malcom, 20.

The crunch would come if Real made a move for Spurs’ Argentine boss.

He would then have to decide whether to take a gamble, as Real managers tend to have a short tenure in the job, or stick with Tottenham, where he is so highly valued.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would also drive a hard bargain if the Madrid club attempted to poach Poch, 45, and would seek at least £10m in compensation.

Pochettino is under contract to Spurs for another three years but it would not be a surprise if Levy attempted to tie him down with a longer, more lucrative deal.

Significantly, Pochettino went into the North London derby confirming that he is involved in, “building a project” at Tottenham.

And after Harry Kane’s winner moved Spurs third in the table, Pochettino said: “I am very proud. It was an amazing, fantastic performance, particularly in the first 25, 30 minutes of the second half.

“Now we play Juventus in the Champions League and this is a competition that excites the fans.”
On matchwinner Kane, the Spurs boss said: “Harry is one of the best in the world – but I keep repeating myself.”

But he also needs to give sanchez the confidence that he is first choice as well

Yep but there’s a place for both of them in the team depending on formation, but otherwise I think it would be pretty obvious to everyone at the club and elsewhere that Toby is one of the best CB’s in the world and would start for pretty much any team he played for. It wouldn’t be damning to Sanchez to know that, I’m sure he accepts that. Hopefully they’ll both start on Tuesday if Toby hasn’t had a setback.

Sounds like more of an issue with a particular journalist being negative. Perhaps has a history of it.

The dembele part was interesting.

Maybe he is trying the lower tobys wage expectations?

My man crush for Poch is reaching whole new levels :love::love: 4 years ago this was unthinkable. We’d have folded like a cheap suit. Amazing belief, incredible fight! Get that big fat contract out Mr Levy.

There is no way he would leave us to join Madrid or PSG. Madrid have sacked some of the best managers in history. There is a lot my job satisfaction in trying to turn us into one of the best teams in Europe, than a moneyball club.

Really the only job I can see him leaving us for is the Argentina job but that won't be any time soon.

And the longer he is away from Argentina, the less chance of him taking that job as he'll be too detached from what's going on there.

In all fairness, he left Southhampton for us so I think he is a career mananger i.e. trophies.

I have no doubt he could leave us for Paris or Real Madrid.

I think results like last night and this year in CL vs Real Madrid etc must make poch think he should stay as we’re getting closer and closer to the level he wants to manage at an wins things at, if at this point we were still getting no where near out of our CL group and miles off the PL title he may think look I’ve improved this club my stock is high let’s jump ship to Real Madrid but right now with the results we’ve had and squad he’s built and is building and with the new stadium coming and more money coming for transfers and wages and more money to the PL and competing against the best managers in the world in pep jose Klopp conte etc why on earth would he leave?

Sure R.Madrid is a glamour club but if we beat them this year and are getting closer and closer to closing that gap surely that is much more satisfactory for a football purist?

He just doesn’t strike me as they type to take a glory easy money job, hopefully he stays with us for another 5 or so years realistically and we’ve won 1 or 2 big trophies by then with him, then he goes on to manage argentina and finally mabye back to Argentina to newlls old boys which he’s always said is his dream.

And relax... lol

I so hope you are right.

Poch is the best thing to happen to Spurs in the last 30 years (with Kane).

However we still cant compete with the money clubs in England so I will not excuse him if he goes to Madrid or Paris.

Let's hope he stays.

I really can't believe that you believe something that is so much the opposite of what really happened. But I think you are very sincere in just not knowing, so I don't want to rant at you.

Rather than typing it all out again, I will give you a link to a post I made previously - but in the direction of being sick of Southampton fans who believe what you do:

Mauricio Pochettino

Look into. Look into what he was achieving at Espanyol - and what the board did to him and the young players he was developing. Do some research, real research into what actually happened at Southampton - and the fact of the board refusing to give him assurances about not selling his squad from under him, and actually selling seven or eight first team players that summer, is all in the public record. Look into the meticulous research Levy and Lewis did on him/his personality because they didn't want another short-term manager who would not be too committed and liable to jump ship (file under AVB) - and then gave him a five year contract, right off the bat, as opposed to a standard three year contract. Take time to read interviews he has given, where he talks of projects, when he talks about Alex Ferguson being at OT for so long and how he would like to do the same specifically at Spurs.

I have very strong doubts that he would leave us for Real Madrid, a bit less for PSG, but still pretty strong doubts he would do so for several years. He likes to work with younger players for their energy and openness to being shaped into the roles he envisages for them. He is four years into a project doing this with us. Why would he just ditch it when it is very clearly beginning to pay dividends? Why would he leave a club that has allowed him the time to do this, is providing the young players for him to mould and where he will have some of the best infrastructure in World football, just to go to a club that demands he spends lots of money immediately, wins the biggest prizes immediately, and will sack him within a few years as soon as there is even the slightest hitch? If he stays with us another ten years and wins us major honours he will have the legacy he talks about. If he jumps ship to RM and wins a couple of titles and a CL, just to be ditched within a few years, how will he have any more of a legacy than just about every other manager of that pathetic club?

I don't think it is up to Levy. It is up to Poch. If he is sincere, and I believe he is, in wanting to stay at our club for many years, building a project, winning major honours and leaving a legacy, he will stay.

Fair enough.

However, do you really think he will stay with us if Real Madrid or PSG come calling?

I personally doubt it.

Didn't Poch say he would like a ten year contract offer from Levy? Doesn't sound like a man who is ready to jump ship yet.

The time for Poch to leave isn't now, in the future yes but not now.
