Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino admits he loves British players as they are more aggressive than imports
A side laden with homegrown talent fell agonisingly short of the title for a second year running under the Argentinean
Mauricio Pochettino will build Tottenham ’s brave new world around a nucleus of home-grown talent – because he can’t find the same “aggression’’ of youth abroad.

Boss Pochettino led Spurs to their highest finish in the Premier League era as runners-up to Chelsea this season, leaving arch-rivals Arsenal in their slipstream for the first time in 22 years.

They were also the top-flight’s highest scorers, boasted its meanest defence and also lost the fewest number of games.

Pochettino will continue to place a heavy emphasis on a core of English talent, after building his side’s identity around Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier and Harry Winks. You can throw in Welshman Ben Davies, too.

Tottenham licked their wounds on another near-miss with the title on an end-of-season trip to South Kores and Hong Kong, and the manager has already begun work on his grand design for an assault on the Premier League summit in 2017-18.

The raw hunger of youngsters will be a key ingredient in that, and he said: “I like them, because they are very honest on the pitch and they are very aggressive.

"That aggression is very difficult to find in another country.

“You can add new people and players from the outside, but the main group that comes from the academy is important because that is the identity of the club.”

Pochettino likes the energy of youth, because it is compatible with his favoured high-tempo, pressing tactic and he said: “That is one quality of our team – our high-pressure play is very good.

“When we do not have the ball, we want to recover it quickly, and when we have the ball we want to play and build it from the back.

“Today is not the same as it was 30 years ago. Now the players are athletes, and you realise that the training is not enough if you have only one session every day. We understand that we need to work hard and you can see the improvement of the players.

“It is very important to create a good dynamic and it is important to create a united feeling from the beginning of each day. And it is then to me to work.”

Tottenham will seek refuge next season at Wembley – where their record in Europe last season was lousy and where they have won two of their 10 games across all competitions – as their new 61,000-capacity stadium at White Hart Lane takes shape, with Pochettino hoping to end the club’s 57-year wait for the title.

He admitted: “It is true that when you are close to glory it is difficult (to fall short), but I take it all in a positive way. For me, it is a big motivation to try again because in football you need to be clever, honest, work hard and always push it.”

Captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris said: “The next level is to win a trophy.

"At Tottenham, there is a real identity in the club. The fans accept it, they understand the way we play and they are very proud to see young players coming through.

“I remember the first few months after the manager arrived, it was very tough to understand why we worked so hard. The we started to understand after three or four months because we felt the improvement of our fitness condition.

“Step by step, he created a real atmosphere of work and we can see the improvement of the team.

"Of course we would like to win trophies, but this is the next step for the club and this young team.”

Poch likes young English talent. I doubt Rose will leave this summer even though he would not be considered young.

Here's an extract from an article written by Jody Rivers on the Guillem Balague blog which describes watching Mauricio giving his first training lesson to Southampton team just after being announced as manager.

The training ground was in transition from the old, worn facilities to what it is today, a world class arena for all age groups at the Football Club. It was a hot day and as I walked round to the Academy games, though I knew I wasn’t allowed to watch, I stood there and waited for a security guard to move me on. No one came - thankfully - what i saw would change my outlook on coaching forever.Pochettino had eleven players set out in a 4-2-3-1 formation all standing by poles. Each player had 3 cones (Red, Blue and White). Playing against them was a Back Four and Two Centre Midfielders. The ball was transferred between the opponents in slow motion. As each pass was made each player moved towards the ball about 10/15 yards and stopped. They then placed the red cones down. The ball moved and the next colour cone went down. Same with the third. After detailed coaching to each player, Pochettino then talked, in clear English, in how to press as one. “One Trigger - we all move - No hesitation - Trust”…GO!!! For 20 minutes these players worked liked beasts. They didn’t make one tackle, not one interception. By the end of the practice each player was part of a smooth, well oiled machine. No one hesitated. No one strayed. The idea of how to press as a complete unit was being installed into the players.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading it so here's the link : http://www.guillembalague.com/blog/...knowmauricio-pochettino-a-blog-by-jody-rivers

Please let me know what you think......

Kieran Trippier on Mauricio Pochettino's prank
He called me in and said ‘I know what you did last night’.

I thought I was in trouble even though I didn’t do anything. He scared me and brought in Hugo, the captain. I thought ‘did I do something last night? No I didn’t’.

He then said - congratulations, you have been called into England. I was delighted for my mum and phoned my parents straight away as they have done a lot of hard work to get me where I am.

This kind of stuff is brilliant, and really fosters a sense of brotherhood among the players and staff. Absolutely love it!

Nice of Southampton to be trying to appoint Tuchel so they can groom him into Poch's replacement should Madrid come calling in a few years!

'CoachReputation' , a Spanish based organisation ranks football coaches around world. For 2016/17 season, Poch has been ranked 6th globally - ahead of likes of Pep...

Ranking is based on 10 parameters

I did a presentation at the residence of the Argentine ambassador to London yesterday, Belgravia Square. It was a media business forum.
Managed to include a pic of Poch in my powerpoint on the basis he was my favourite Argentine! (though perhaps i should have included Ossie and Ricky too).

clearly he's not tweeting enough - that'll get his score up

What nonsense to score on their website (or lack there of) and social media...

Think Poch should get 10s for lack of a website or social media presence. Though understand it's about brand enhancement etcetera.
