quite how Mauricio didn't win Manager of the month for January I don't know?

1st Jan - Watford 1 - 4 Tottenham
4th January - Tottenham 2 - 0 Chelsea (ending a 13 match winning streak in the process)
8th January - Tottenham 2 - 0 Aston Villa (FA Cup)
14th January - Tottenham 4 - 0 West Brom (One of the most complete performances you'll see from any team all season)
21st January - Man City 2 - 2 Tottenham
28th January - Tottenham 4 - 3 Wycombe
31st January - Sunderland 0 - 0 Tottenham

I mean come off it, 5 wins and 2 draws. GD+11

Liverpool fans and media would be rioting in the streets if this had happened to Klopp.

Love how he is changing the mentality of the whole club

He said: “It is not enough simply to be in the top four, five or six, or play in the Europa League. The most important step is that the players believe they can achieve their dream.

“If you think Tottenham is the right place for that, we will be very close to winning trophies. It is the first time it has happened for me, that so many players extend their contracts and show their commitment to the club.

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...s-club-can-win-several-trophies-a3462561.html

Compare and contrast with the self serving BS we got from Harry that struggling to reach to the Top 4 (and failing) was the very best we could hope, the pinnacle of what Tottenham Hostpur could ever expect to achieve.

That's why his name should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Pochetinno.

When was the last time prior to that when we reached the quarter final of the CL or indeed qualified for it? At that time we certainly overachieved and posting a view suggesting that Redknapp failed is plain bloody stupid. You could argue that we failed to win the PL under Poch last season as much as you could lay the blame at Redknapp for just about making the CL.

I'm no Redknapp lover but will always give credit where credit is due, and that night at home to Inter Milan will always be one of the highlights of my almost forty years of being a Spurs fan and and season ticket holder.

Get over yourself and support the club and everything it has achieved whoever the Manager.

who said he failed?

I said what irked me was his lack of ambition and the implication that we couldn't possibly ever expect anything other a chase for fourth spot and that we should be grateful for that, which struck me as rather self serving.

If Chelsea came in for Dele or Kane and they were agitating for a move could you imagine Poch telling the media that he couldn't blame them, as Redknapp did when Chelsea were after Modric? No, me neither

I've supported the club even in the worst of times so perhaps its you who needs to get over yourself.

Easily the favourite manager of my lifetime. He's magic ya know ;)

Everything he does is classy, from his press conferences to his manner on the sideline. A real figurehead you can be proud to be the face of your club. No Homo :cautious:

I tried to point you in the right direction of your original post.

Neither Dele or Kane are agitating for a move, (then again we are not third bottom of the league as we were when Redknapp took over). Over the years, Sheringham, Keane, Berbatov, Modric, Carrick and Bale have all moved on. After Berbatov Levy was never going to sell an asset to another PL club and that is why Modric would have never have gone to Chel$ea.

We did indeed fail to reach 4th spot when Redknapp said 4th was the very best we could hope for.

and we were not third from bottom when Modric wanted to move to chelsea, as I'm sure you are well aware - but still Redknapp said he couldn't blame him for wanting to go?

Now again, I ask - same situation this time hypothetical of course, but Kane agitating for a chelsea move - do you think it more likely that Poch would tell the media and Kane himself that

a) he can achieve everything he wants with us, or

b) i don't blame him for wanting to go to chelsea?

To even ask that question is to demonstrate the crucial difference in the mentality between the two managers, and hence the point i was making

Redknapp brought us our first ever top 4 finish, and that was one of the best things I've ever experienced as a fan. But at that stage it was just a one off, and seen by opposition fans and the world as something unlikely to happen again. After this season we will likely have finished in the top 4 four seasons out of 8, and two in a row.

As for capacity and resources, we are a year from moving into the new stadium. This is almost exclusively seen as a massive step in the growth of our club. Even when Harry left the stadium was forever away. We didn't know when it was coming.

Do you talk to opposition fans? Living in Northern Ireland everyone I know supports Arsenal, United or Liverpool. The difference in the level of respect we are treated with now and then is staggering. Back then it was 'once Harry takes the England job, and Bale and Modric leave, you'll be back down never to challenge for top 4 again.' Now that Harry, Bale and Modric have left, and we've rebuilt and are still up there with a second top-4 quality side, it's clear to people that we are here to stay as challengers at the top end. The fact we've sustained this success at the top end of the league is a huge deal. That's why the success is more sustainable - we've proven that even once that team was taken apart and another built, this club has enough to challenge at the top end. That team hadn't. That team could possibly have been a one off.

How did I forget u were from gods own country? I'm drunk I think I knew but somehow forgot?! .... I'm going to bed lol.

Quite a lot wrong there,

Modric was terrible, he looked every bit the player that Wenger made him out to be. It was Redknapp who gradually turned it around for him and started that by moving him from AM to left wing and then to the centre the following season after he had become established. And his broken leg came in his second season after he had already started to establish himself at left wing.

As for Bale, oh come on, he was failing under 2 managers and was going nowhere . It was Redknapp who aided him into becoming the player that he is today, he was sensational when he broke into the side in the second half of the 09/10 season. AVB did indeed assist him moving to the next level but Redknapp was the one who started this. As for nearly selling him, well that is utterly irrelevant, the fact is he didn't. On that basis you could argue that the man is superb talent scout because he 'nearly' signed Suarez.

With respect to Walker, well he can't have been that poor given that he won the PFA young player of the year in his breakthrough season and like most players that age he was always going to have difficult times during his development.

I'm sorry but it was Redknapp who converted Rose to a left back, it is well documented and he had a number of games in that postion prior to his Sunderland loan. Had that conversion not taken place then i very much doubt he would a PL player now.

As I stated previously I think there is little difference between the two managers. Both have virtually identical with ratios, both achievements are pretty much aligned and both employ/employed the same strategy with respect to the league and the Cup tournaments ( their comments with regards to the UEFA Cup are a carbon copy of each other). I really do not understand this winning mentality argument. Last season the archetypal Redknapp season compete with end of season collapse.

What this ultimately is about is personality, Redknapp was a loathsome toad in that's regard whist Pochettinho is not. But that does not have any effect on a manager's ability or the outcomes that they achieve and people should allow themselves to be coloured by.

I actually was a Harry fan but one thing I can say is I am far more optimistic watching us now than I was under Harry. In that I mean when you were watching a Harry side before kick off you were never quite sure what was gonna turn up. Watching us now I do t feel the same nervous anticipation, 9 out of 10 times I know we will control the game and not get beaten. To me that makes Poch the better coach, it's s team effort not relying on a moment of individual brilliance.

Special circumstances.

Swansea were bottom, coming off the back of four 3 goal+ hammerings when Clement joined. He's won 3 out of 4, including away at Liverpool, and they're a point clear of relegation zone.

That's phenomenal. Poch had a great January, but a general continuation of an upwards trajectory, rather than a complete turnaround. If that run had taken us top, it may have had the necessary drama to compete

Clement has only won 3 not 4. He also got knocked out of the FA cup and got demolished 4-0 at home to Arsenal.

Their win at Anfield was very good I grant you that but the other 2 were scrappy 2-1 victories against Southampton and Crystal Palace, both of whom are truly terrible at the moment. Come on, Mauricios run of results in January were far superior to that of Clements.

Sorry you're right on the stats, yes, edited

I don't disagree on pure results but I think it's sentiment wot won it. You can't really compare the two

Conte would win every month otherwise - although notably not this month.

Also pretty sure manager of month is league only. Record of 4/2/0 closer to 3/0/1 than 5/2/0 and 3/0/2

All the more reason to give it to Mauricio then wouldn't you say?
Guess drawing away to Sunderland and City hurt us.

Clement beat Palace, Liverpool and Southampton. Considering where Swansea were it was fair enough to give him the award.

Sunderland draw definitely cost him. Doubt City one did though, that was a strong result.
Manager of the Month shall usually have no poor games, Sunderland one just wasn't good enough.

Was intrigued as to how he'd set up tactically this game, seeing as he's gotten the better of Pep (the home game), Wenger and Conte (the home game and the first half of the away game) this far this season by astute tactical adjustments.

For some reason, he seemed to think we could play Liverpool away as if we were at home against WBA or Sunderland and win at Anfield by not adjusting to their strenghts at all. Slow, meticulous build up play, and leaving Davies isolated against Mane all game...

Insanely poor from him.
