I don't disagree but what's "strongest" changes on SC from game to game. See my last post, above.

EDIT: We lost so its an issue. Bah.

I wouldn't use the grumblings of forum fans to determine our first XI. Lloris is our number 1 and captain. Pochettino's decision to not play him (whether it would have affected the game or not) is a bit arrogant imo.

Problem with poch is tactically he is not sharp. He takes time to understand what's wrong in the team.. Specially i dont like his in game management. Also playing unfit kane match after match, son suddenly out of form didn't help poch either.. If mourinho was our manager, he would have never played unfit kane from the start. He would have started with lamela, son, eriksen and ali.. after 60 minutes, he would have brought on moura and kane depending on the match situation. Sometimes you have to surprise your opponent at this kind of games ... Poch doesn't know this ..

Why did poch play kane on the first hand? Lamela and ali as a number 9 doing fine thn why change it in order to accomodate unfit harry kane??

THIS!

We had much more flair and spark the three matches Kane was out injured than any other game in the last two/three months. Why rush Kane back when he wasn't even needed? All he has done since coming back has been stealing Eriksen a goal.

Quite clearly, that whole shit about no player being above the team doesn't apply in the case of Kane... at least in Pochetino's mind.

I don't think yesterday was down to selection or tactics... There's still a mental block in this club when it comes to the crunch... When fighting crucial title games or semi finals. A belief that we belong at that level and should be winning.

It won't change until we actually win, and learn what winning feels like. It's why throwing Europa Leagues and League cups is reductive.

Don't forget Pochs playing career was almost all teams fighting relegation, or bubbling under. It's a mentality that he himself needs to acquire.

Well, I guess we half disagree. To call it arrogant seems a bit OTT as you've no idea what the decision was based on. Personally, I'd have picked Lloris myself but I'm not entirely sure it would have made a difference to the result. But we lost, so there's a stick to use I suppose.

Arogant might not be the right word but it's certainly a decision made for non footballing reasons given Lloris' stature in Poch's teams.

I agree I don't think it would have done either but I certainly think there is a mental bonus to be had from facing a 2nd choice keeper. Any perceived sign of weakness can be exploited.

I'd wager we would have had more shots if Romero was in goal.

8th semi final I’ve been* to and yet again another defeat. The truth is I fully expected it. When a title is there to be won or cup we fall apart ever when we’ve looked imperious running up to the games. How can and why does this team continue ‘bottling’, for want of a better word, these games that matter having swatted these same opposition aside previous?

I really don’t think MP constant down playing of the domestic cups helps matters. To get a ‘winning mentality’ you have to be winners first. Winning a domestic cup is the easiest route to experiencing that ‘feeling’ which hopefully leads us onto bigger and better things.

*Cue the jokes about ‘don’t turn up to the 9th one

THIS!
What my whole gripe about Poch is absolutely this. You've summed it up. Poch is absolutely incapable of instilling the winning mentality that he keeps going on about.

We have comprehensively beat United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arse this season, but make those games trophy related games or title deciding games and guaranteed we'd lose them.

Give me Simone, Conte, Kopp any day over Poch. Heck I'd even take Dyche!

Any of those would easily instill the mentality we lack. You can't beat those teams in the league and consistently lose to them in deciders and then turn and say we need better players. It makes no sense. It's almost an insult to the players that beat them previously. Almost shameful if you ask me.

Great post! We're all gutted about the Utd result, but let's not lose perspective about our progress. We're light years from where we were a few years ago. We've had to literally claw our way back from decades of mismanagement. And we're actually competing for the top prizes now. That's a change!
The problem is for some brains, success is a very binary thing, trophies = success, everything else = failure.

They must literally get zero pleasure out of supporting spurs with this mindeset, and if i thought about spurs and football in that way, i really dont think id bother with it at all.

Has his head been turned? Some of the phrases he is using make him sound like he may leave.

Amazed how all the tactical geniuses on here are doing other things with their lives rather than managing top level teams.

I'm 50 so have supported a lot of shit Spurs teams.

In judging Poch and whether I am happy with him I use some simple logic.

- What was it like before he arrived?
- Is he a decent human being?
- Do we play good football?
- Is the club cohesive?
- Do the players give 100% for him?
- Are we competing at the top level?
- Does evidence suggest another manger would do better?

Is he perfect? - no but he is providing me with far more good match days than bad.

I love the man - a lot of fans should be careful what they wish for.

At the end of the day the players have to take responsibility. Dembele losing the ball where he did to Pogba was school boy error stuff.

Is anyone worried by Pochettino comments after the game about him or another manager taking the group forward.

If Poch goes the wheels will well and truly come off and we'll be back to square one. He is the glue that holds this squad together.

So please, get behind the man and don't fall into the media trap.
