Poch is leaving anyway according to the Sunday supplement
Shot down by Balague this morning on Sky sports - his words were pretty much re-affirming what Hercules mentioned over the last two days that, Poch might just be turning the screw a touch via the media, to back him with the ground work done.

There always will be 1 PL champion, 1 FA winner, 1 CL winner and 1 LC winner. There are 6 competitive clubs in PL and more in CL chasing these 4 prizes, with majority of teams working on a much bigger budget than us. We continually punch above our weight, unearth hidden gems and in general have an effective recruitment programme. We have to continue to remain competitive to allow us the chance to grow and close this gap on all the others. Continuity of manager is our only hope of delivering this objective and this must be Poch. Realistically back him and we'll have every chance of success.

And as a PS to this, two of those trophies were taken this season because a former mid-table club had the great and undeserved fortune to be taken over by Middle Eastern squillionaires...

I suppose the problem I have is that at the end of the day for all the chatter about not spending enough money - Utd beat us with two past it wingers at full back.

Valencia and Young were turned into full backs by Van Gaal.

Most of their football in the past four years have been as full backs.

It's worth bearing in mind that whatever you think about them being past it as wingers, they're both very good at full back. Valencia has been playing there for years (preceding Van Gaal) and is a better full back than he ever was on the wing.

We'll be paying off the stadium for some time and I don't expect us to make a massive leap in either wages or transfer fee - however I do think there will be some increase but not to put us on a level playing field with any of the other top 6.

You're right there won't be a massive leap. Sudden splurges are not in keeping with the club/Levy's M.O.

However stadium financing is secured through medium to long term loans and naming rights. Transfer and wage budgets shouldn't be impacted too severely. When you take into account the fact that our revenue has sky-rocketed by one hundred million pounds in the last financial year and will probably rise by a similar amount during the current year, it's not outlandish to suggest that we will be much more competitive with some of our rivals. The Manchester clubs and Chelsea will remain out of reach for some time but with our new stadium on the horizon and the massive commercial opportunities that will follow, we are rapidly gaining ground in the turnover/revenue stakes on Arsenal and in particular Liverpool.

We won't be going on reckless spending sprees but we will definitely have much more room for manoeuvre.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but Guillem Balague has an astonishing ability to be wrong about more or less everything he ever says. If Balague says Pochettino is staying, you should put everything you've ever owned on him leaving. Even if Pochettino himself categorically says that he's staying, if Balague claims the same I'd still err towards assuming he's off.

He wrote Poch's book - I think they're pretty close and I would be inclined to listen to him on this one over some sensationalist on the Sunday Supplement.

I'm just playing the odds here, he has a history of talking out of his hoop. If Balague went on Twitter and said that, following a long investigation, he can exclusively confirm that gravity is definitely a real thing, he'd spend the next six months convalescing after smashing his head off the ceiling of his home.

That is laughable nonsense I very much doubt he will leave and why should he after building what he has so far only for someone else to take it on and get the glory.
I sincerely hope he stays and along with levy try to improve us with some better and experienced signings to off set the younger talent, we are nearly there but yet still some way off no doubt Saturday's result would have hit the club hard but as much as we are all gutted they have to see the season out in style.

With transfers you're probably right, but him and Poch are bff now since the book.

this is literally the definition of insanity.

I agree that just spending more money isn't necessarily the way forward, but there are definitely things he could do differently, given that his current approach has only been proven to work up to a certain point so far.

I don't think his overall approach and style of play is a problem. What I would say is a weakness is sometimes, in my opinion, he doesn't actually apply it so well (such as when we stop pressing for spells of games, but keep holding a high line) and allows the players, and the match, to drift along a bit - and we've been punished a couple of times this way in matches decided by the smallest margins eg. Juve. When I say I'd like to see him be a little more ruthless this is the sort of example I mean.

It's fair to say that money isn't everything, and that there are other issues within our control that can be worked on to improve us, but to claim that having more money to spend wouldn't help us is just obviously wrong. Literally every team in the world, including the elite and super-rich, would be helped by having more money to spend. Until a team has the best two, or maybe three, players in the world in each position in their squad, money will always help - if Madrid were able to offer Barcelona a billion pounds for Messi, and offered him ten million a week, they could get him. Money is always an advantage.

True, and it will be interesting to see how we finance it all (assuming its mostly debt net of naming rights, NFL deal etc) but id be surprised if the interest is more than 5% so annual interest expense shouldnt be much more than £25 at a guess.
