In 2016 we finished third, 11 points off the top, and closer on points to Liverpool in 8th than to Leicester in 1st. We won 4 fewer games than the champions, and lost double the number of games they did.

If you're seriously calling that a title challenge then I can't help you.
You forget that we did give up after the Chelsea draw.

And therefore I don't think we can seriously be considered as concurrent title challengers.
We were close to them until we drew against Chelsea. After that the players just gave up, which is why we got hammered by Newcastle on the last game of the season.

Being close at one stage or another doesn't make us contenders IMO, unless that point is the final day of the season.

We challenged for the title in both seasons regardless... But you carry on being negative.

No, we really really didn't. We finished miles off the pace. By that logic you could say Swansea challenged for the title because they were in the top 3 after 3 weeks that time. It means nothing if you're not within touching distance when the season ends.

But you carry on deluding yourself with overhyped mediocrity.

Hes is not perfect but he’s a young manager and gets a whole lot more right than he does wrong.

I sometimes think people miss the drama of being a badly managed and run club. I can’t see any other alternative for them wanting Levy and Poch out. It’s like they want us to be West Ham.

Sorry but that just isn't applying logic to the situation. If a team wins the league with 3 games to spare because they are 10 points clear, lifts the trophy etc etc, but then loses the next 3 games and there only ends up being a point difference between 1st and 2nd does that make it a close run thing? Of course not.

We challenged for the title up until we drew with Chelsea, as we were the only team that could catch Leicester, completely irrelevant what happened in the games after that, the season was done, just because we went through the motions doesn't mean we didn't mount a challenge for the title.

So any season where the title winners finish more than 3 points clear, there was no title race?

Technically not, no.

There may have been a race to be in 1st position at one point in the season, but if you finish 11 points behind, you're really really reaching to say you challenged for the title.

3rd place is mediocrity? Ok, I'll just pretend the 90s never happened then...

At the beginning of the season most of us would be biting the others hand for a 3rd place finish. Not going to lie, would be nice to win a trophy, but if we get into the top 4 and bring CL to the new stadium I would call it a very successful season. You have to remember that we have played 38 games away this season!
