I get what everlasting seconds is saying, apart from some fabulous results there's nothing obviously stand out in what we achieved but in his own way he has paid us the best compliment, finishing third behind effectively the wealthiest clubs in the world and claiming a CL place is now seen as nothing standout, that's how good we are and its a good jumping off point for the future.

We should always strive for more and yes there is disappointment we didn't get a trophy but it's not like we are utd under fergusson where a 3rd place finish is somehow a bad season. How many times in our history have we finished higher than 3rd?

Agree somewhat, but I think this season really showed that some of our players have reached their ceiling, in terms of what's needed to go to the next level and I believe Poch realises this too, coaching and graft will get some players only so far, if the required quality is not there, then it's just not there. Poch knows he needs to refresh the 1st team with players that are at or can reach the next level.
Maye Pochettinohas growed tired of the Pochettino way? :nailbiting:

That's it. Great, great highs. Among the best football in the world. An it's incredible that we've finished top 4 three times in a row. But in terms of actual quality of what happened on the pitch overall, I think we took a step backwards, and played not too well on too many occasions. I don't think I'm a bad fan for saying that.

In certain areas of the pitch we have gone backwards, full backs having to play Mo on the right nullified our attacks, hopefully Moura and a good transfer window will get us back on track.

Its classic nouveau fan thinking.
And i guess if you're not a match going fan, then the whole Wembley albatross probably doesnt register at all...from an armchair playing at Wembley is identical to playing at WHL.
I am not a classic nouveau fan since my first game was at WHL in 1961 but I left the UK in 86 so all my watching of our games is done between 11.30 pm and 8.45 am (I watch live) as I now live in Auckland, NZ. 98% of the time I get up to watch Spurs play live. I can assure you most of us appreciate the Wembley albatross.

Mauricio Pochettino holds positive talks with Spurs hierarchy as Chelsea accept defeat in quest to lure him

Mauricio Pochettino has held positive discussions with chairman Daniel Levy over his Tottenham Hotspur future, with Chelsea now resigning themselves to the fact there is virtually no chance he will push for a move to Stamford Bridge.

Hopes have been raised that Pochettino will stay at Spurs and recommit himself by signing a new contract, with sources claiming talks between the Argentine and Levy have gone well and that more are scheduled.

There were doubts over Pochettino’s future last week after he revealed he would speak to Levy about the direction Spurs are heading in and urged the club to be brave.

He wants the green light to go ahead with a £150million overhaul of his Tottenham squad and start business, both in terms of ins and outs, earlier than in previous years.

It seems Levy may be prepared to grant some of his manager’s wishes and the Spurs chairman remains keen for Pochettino to sign a new deal that could be worth £8.5m a year.

Having last signed a contract two years ago, Pochettino is committed to Tottenham until 2021, but Levy would like him to at least extend that by a further 12 months.

Pochettino has been well aware that he has admirers elsewhere, particularly at Chelsea, who are set to replace head coach Antonio Conte.

But there is little optimism at Stamford Bridge that Pochettino will force his way out of Tottenham to replace Conte and Chelsea are focussing their attention elsewhere, with Luis Enrique currently rated as the likeliest successor to the Italian.

If he has signed, I hope we announce this just as Ashton and co. are spewing all their
mis-informed garbage concerning Spurs and our manager on Sunday Supplement.

Funnily enough, two of the journos on the show today just happen to be from the Sun and Daily Mail.

Bonus!

This kind of proves my point though, the fact you were a match going fan means you understand the effect that a packed roaring WHL can have.
Im just not sure people who've only ever experienced football on the TV can appreciate the hinderance of playing at Wembley every other week, i concede i probably didn't make my point very well.

Hopefully that he can pen a new deal later this week. Might need sometime since his lawyer will need to go through the deal and I am sure his team (and son) will also need new contract. We ain't just signing a man but a team.

Matt Law has definitely been more accurate in this past year or two. I swear he used to make things up but it does seem like he has connections now as he seems to be getting a lot more right.
