There is no way Poch knew Zidane was leaving a week ago.
Why?

I'm not buying into this 'shock resignation' stuff. It's maybe a shock to the fans, but I'd wager that Perez has known for a while, and if he knew, he's bound to have put some feelers out.

LOL..Feckin SSN.

Spend half a season selling our players, telling all and sundry they'll leave if we don't win trophies.

Next minute...best thing since sliced bread, marvellous job Poch has done and how well Spurs have performed.

'Knob of the week' award duly granted.

I’ll back this up to a degree, up until ZZ won the champions league he was having a terrrible season (by Madrid standards) finishing 3rd is not good enough, I think the feelers were out by Perez ages ago, ZZ leaving has just accelerated the process. He was definitely in the firing line before the CL final.

Anyway, I still don’t think Poch will leave, it would take an astronomical fee to get Levy to let him go, a world record many times over. And that would also rely on Poch wanting to go there now.

Let’s not forget Madrid need a rebuilding process now, Bale unsettled and not getting any younger, Ronaldo at the end of his career. It’s a big job for anyone!

The more I think of it, the more I see the Madrid job right now as a poison chalice akin to that of Utd post Fergie. The team needs a major overhaul but somehow they continued to win.

Does it mean Poch would definitely not go? Of course not, but easily could be Moyes 2.0.

Madrid need a transition fall guy, much like Benitez. Enter Wenger or Conte...

Alternatively, if they are willing to rebuild, going the Barca route and appointing Guti makes sense as the fans should give him more time.

Lets not forget as a player Poch had several offers from ‘big’ teams whilst at Espanyol and he stayed.

By all accounts he’s had offers already whilst with us and stayed.

I’d be absolutely stunned if he went, no chance in my opinion.

You think ZZ will be the one remembered for this achievement? I don't, it will be the players and most so Ronaldo. Winning three consecutive CL's is a massive thing, but very few people will put that down to him being in charge.

Laissez-Faire is also a managerial choice. He was certainly the right man at the right time - keeping all the ego's aligned and balanced and doctoring a formula that gets the best out of the available superstars. They're fast reaching the end of the line with this squad and a rebuilding job is in order. Zidane obviously doesn't fancy that so you can see why they'd be interested in Poch.

He would be ill advised to go there however - his stature in the game is not yet big enough. Although he had a good career as a player, he wasn't himself world class. He also hasn't won any trophies yet :(. He therefore wouldn't have the necessary clout with Real's fans and the media to make it through the inevitable rough patches and to get away with unpopular decisions...

Poch insinuated this point in the run up to one of our games against Madrid last year. He used a Formula 1 analogy, saying something along the lines of: if Fernando Alonso wins one championship driving a McLaren (not one of the elite cars at the moment) it would be a miracle and show that he is a great driver, whereas Lewis Hamilton could win every year and people will say its only because he has the fastest car.

EDIT: I found the quote:

"You cannot measure the same. Is Hamilton the best? Of course because he wins, but if we give Alonso the same car, would he also win? I don’t want to say things about another team, with other players… we live in a result society and the easy thing is to get in the car of the winner."

Some of you are real nervous pansies. Do you really think Poch would sign a new deal if he wanted the Real job? Everyone in football knows Poch is the #1 choice for alot of top clubs (including Madrid), and Poch himself would've been well aware too. So, what does he gain from a signing a new deal (without a release clause mind you) at the hottest time for manager movement if he wants to move? He just gave Levy a notoriously stubborn negotiator all the leverage.

Poch should play the following scenario in his head and he should be able to work out in 2 minutes how it would play out.

"New manager walks into the RM dressing room and says to the players...no player is bigger than the team and what I say goes !!!" Poch then thinks... Hmm do I really need to guess what the response will be ? Following this, new manager also needs to make really tough decisions like telling certain players that they are beyond their peak and need replacing. Again Poch thinks and says to himself hmm, do I really need to guess what the response will be and will those said players take that news kindly and go quietly? Poch then thinks, hmm... I think I will pass on that one, I'm far better off staying put.......

New member coming over from COYS. Hi everyone.

I feel there is a real possibillity he could leave. One job that would be impossible to turn down is the Real one. The contract means nothing. He has big ambitions, Guliame Ballague has said that many times in interwiews, and he knows Poch well after the book. So I believe he has aspirations to one day become Real manager. This might have been two-three years before he feels he is ready, and that COULD be a saving factor for us. That and the fact that he does not feel he is finished with us.

But then again, there is time for a generation-shift at Real, and that could prove to be too tempting for him.

I hope he stays for 20 years, but fear we could loose him now!

You seem much more confident with your posts on RedCaf, are you bluffing on there?

Primativ on REDCAFE.... also 35 there...

Signing a new 5 year contract just 7 days ago is absolutely an indication of his future desires. I can't believe people are trying to spin it that signing a new contract just a week ago is not a sign of Poch's commitment to Spurs. Poch would have to be a moron, if he thought he shouldn't wait to see what happens at Madrid before signing the new Spurs contract. Poch could easily have delayed signing a new contract for another month or two to see what happened at Madrid before committing to Spurs. Spurs wouldn't have been able to rush Poch, they would have had to deal with it. Yet Poch signs a new contract within weeks of the season finishing. That is the absolute sign of commitment to Spurs, and all this speculation about him getting wet for Madrid is just baseless speculation.

I believe all that I wrote there. There is a part of me that is a tiny bit worried though. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. Lwts be honest, the Madrid job is the one job in the world which could easily see Poch leave Spurs and as of yestersay it's now available and they have made him their top target.
