I bet at the end of a long, tough season he wasn’t thinking about a player in our development squad as the answer to us taking the final step to being champions.

Citing that quote wasn't meant to be in isolation. It may have been his sentiments from the beginning. He may have felt from the beginning that there were some from the development squad who could step up.

I would be made up if Amos or Skipp got minutes this season and a chance to put themselves in the reckoning, and succeeded. But it would be an absolutely massive gamble without signing a more experienced head for midfield. Wanyama, Dembele and Winks' fitness issues are my biggest concerns for the new season and a quality CM signing would go a long way to alleviate them.

I would like to see some fresh blood but we do need to remember that Lucas Moura and Lamela barely played last season - both are quality (in different ways) and certainly add to our attacking options; if Toby stays we have a sh*t hot defence and that really leaves the problem of if Dembele's legs can manage a season or not.

We are not going to win the league - Citeh have bought it again - but we are good enough to challenge again for CL and finish above the scum

I interpret Pochs quote as saying that he does not rate some of the “senior” midfield options at his disposal and that they should be sold. I would guess that means dembele at least...

Imagine if he also thinks Dier is not good enough to play CM. Imagine if the key to Martial was Dier.... Now that would be brave ...

I actually thought Poch's quote was a veiled slap at Levy and Cullen. He said he's "more than brave" - why does he slip the "more than" in there let alone the brave, a few days after Cullen explains what Poch supposedly meant by being brave.

If the window was to close today I cant believe Poch will be happy at all..... if levy lets us lose this manager, he wont be getting anymore of my money until he has left.... where has all the money gone, I know we are building a new stadium but most expensive season tickets and then a summer like this?

I feel for Poch, he has massively overachieved and he has one of those managers who just takes the piss out of you.

I know it probably doesn’t mean anything but someone on Twitter met Levy yesterday and posted a picture with him.

He said...

“Just met Levy and asked him about incomings.
He said ‘You’ll have to wait and see’ then winked at me and a ‘hope you enjoy the game’
??”
That sounds like a sex dream to me

Personally I felt Poch started to get angry at the criticism he gets, especially the trophy thing, despite him constantly punching above his weight. We're playing with a handicap, no wonder we always seem to fall just short.

I think Klopp felt the same, and was happy to change his philosophy to move forward. Sign top players to fix his weaknesses. No messing around, no waiting to sell Danny Ings or Simon Mignolet for an unlikely fee first. I'd imagine he's grinning like a chesire cat right now.

With Poch's 'be brave' I don't think he was saying do what they've done, but I'm sure it meant not coming up with this shit show of a window. We've been told by @Hercules Poch really liked Grealish and Zaha and most recent ITK on both is we messed up. I think he'd have been happy with Grealish being done in time for the US tour for a few £m more.

Due to Poch's management we only need 2-3 signings to move forward, and if we lose the troublesome CB and LB as expected, both have been elevated to a level where we should be very well compensated for them. The man deserves better.

Real Madrid had a raging boner for him a few weeks ago, he's not gonna stick around forever if we don't back him enough. That Madrid job looks like a poison chalice to me, wouldn't surprise me if both they and Utd are back sniffing within 12 months. Eriksen, Kane, Lloris, Dele, do you think they'll hang around long if we start to go backwards? A few will at the very least get their heads turned within a year or two.

The time to strike is now, we've had ITKs say the same, 'shit or get off of the pot'. Levy loves Poch (that huge new salary he's getting proves it) he must know what's at stake. I really hope he does what's necessary in the next week.

Levy's played a huge part on getting us here, on the verge of joining the European elite, time to act like we belong there.

A great post, but also one that scares me. While we can’t or won’t spend like Liverpool, they are clearly getting stronger by investing in quality. I don’t think the bulk of us are clamouring for this type of excessive spending, but there needs to be more ambition shown from the board. Towards the tail end of last season, there was a palpable sense of frustration in Poch in press conferences. This was supported by various itk stating ‘assurances had been made’ when news was breaking about him signing a new contract. Now we have a crocked squad (Lamela, Winks, Vic- who carried serious injuries at various points last season too) and an ageing Dembele who looked exhausted at the World Cup. And we haven’t signed anyone. And we’re losing one of the best CBs in the world. And we have an issue with home grown player quota (which should have been addressed more proactively) which everyone knows about, meaning we’re in a weaker position to sell for what the club would consider a good price. None of this currently feels like a situation anyone who’s just signed a new contract with ‘assurances’ would be content with.
I pray I’m proven wrong about my growing frustrations and concerns, pray that suitable player(s) materialise to strengthen our squad and match the expectations and ambitions of an excellent manager, but the shift in mood by those gifting us with itk, and with each day passing through our fingers like sand, I cannot help but feel this is a key moment we might miss out on. I really hope the plane does not crash into the mountain. I really hope some of the more optimistic members of this community will be proven wise and right when the window closes next week. I’m not convinced this will happen now.

The window is still open, lets see after its been closed where we are.

I have started sharpening the pitch forks, anyone able to bind some torches? Hopefully they all go back in to the garden shed untill the next window.

It’ll be walking around the back garden at midnight muttering to myself about the inevitability of disappointment, while my family try and coax me into the house with wine and sympathy. I threw away the pitch forks after the Frasier Campbell fiasco

Obviously i have no real clue on how this works, but my 2 pence here.

You have the elite players and thats not our market(Ronaldo etc) but we should be in the bracket below that, for some players at least, problem is you probably have to pay a bit more for those players, and that is not what we do.

If we have a list of those players in that tier and we are not prepared to pay a little extra for at least one of them we might aswell throw that in the bin and work on the lists below and we might not find ourselves scrambling around so much.

Not saying we should sign a pogba for 100+ million but if we have a player that will improve us fot 70, maybe we have to that.

I am a big fan of Levy, his obvious talents over the years at finding quality for less, but the final hurdle might be too much for him now as the dynamics of the market have changed and i am not sure he has changed with it.

Poch is a dream manager and would piss many off if he left because he was expected to do with what he has season after season.

The only real defence of our transfer window so far is barring Liverpool and Arsenal is the lack of spending by the other top 6 clubs also the lack of movement out of players from those clubs. Much like us I can’t recall any of the top six really having sold any players this window barring a couple of squad players from Liverpool. This is obviously causing a stagnation in the market. Pretty sure they all have players they want to move on so they can bring new players into their squads. It could be a case of who blinks first to get the window moving. Said it before the premier league clubs who voted to close the transfer window early are really to blame for this rediculous situation.
