The only real defence of our transfer window so far is barring Liverpool and Arsenal is the lack of spending by the other top 6 clubs also the lack of movement out of players from those clubs. Much like us I can’t recall any of the top six really having sold any players this window barring a couple of squad players from Liverpool. This is obviously causing a stagnation in the market. Pretty sure they all have players they want to move on so they can bring new players into their squads. It could be a case of who blinks first to get the window moving. Said it before the premier league clubs who voted to close the transfer window early are really to blame for this rediculous situation.

It seems the club's that voted for the early window closure have thrown a massive spanner in the works and seriously shot themselves in the foot, in fact they've completely blown the foot off!! Surely they would've known that it would be impossible to shift deadwood to the continent before buying!!?

I greatly prefer the window closing early. Never really felt like the season started before the window shuts and it's such a distraction. Chairmen will learn adept after a few seasons. Worst part about it is that it give Levy (and others) the perfect excuse for little to no activity.

I was up at 2.30 this morning because my youngest wanted to party and to pass the time I mentally calculated that we’ve done extraordinarily well in creating a squad that, relatively speaking, was quite frugal to build. Kane, Alli and Eriksen
alone must be worth at least 300 million for an outlay of approximately 20 million. Then factor in Dier, Son, Trippier, Lloris etc and it’s clear Levy has done really well. I know my accountancy skills are dreadful, but surely a club of our value, with the squad we have, the new stadium, a growing global brand etc that we’d be able to offload GNK, Sissoko, Janssen et al at a loss and still be capable of buying quality? Do we really have to be hamstrung by some mediocre players because we want to break even or even make a profit on them?

I don’t mind the window shutting early, it makes sense to shut it before the season starts. The problem lies with everyone else still being able to buy. What we should have done, the PL that is, is try to get the window to completely shut over here ie no incomings, and no outgoings after that date. If we couldn’t get that officially, I don’t see why an unwritten rule/gentleman’s agreement couldn’t have been reached between us all that no sales would happen after the closure date. That would have made Europe or wherever HAVE to buy before we close our window. This is the problem with it all.

I like the idea of he window closing early as well..... but it is only going to work if all of the other European top leagues do the same. Personally I think the transfer window should open the day after the champions league final and close on 31st July.

Agree. I don’t think Poch is overly impressed with our summer transfers, in and out.

If he isn’t then I wish he’d been more vocal. Mourinho vocal. Doing it just once might shock the board into action.

(And I hate the way Mourinho uses the press like he does, but sometimes it works).

That would only give selling clubs the upper hand. He can be very vocal about it behind closed doors though.

Wasn't sure where to post this, and rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd link this here as a timely reminder of the dangers of spending big bucks for the sake of it:

The relationship between Tottenham supporters and Daniel Levy is a curious one.

There are times when the shiny-headed chairman can do no wrong in the eyes of the fans, such as when he convinced Stoke to pay £18million for Kevin Wimmer. On other occasions, he invokes their wrath, notably by refusing to hand Mauricio Pochettino a briefcase full of crisp £20 notes to spend as he pleases.

A look at how some of Spurs’ big-name signings down the years have flopped, though, perhaps sheds some light on why Levy is sometimes reluctant to enter the transfer market…

Im usually the optimist on most things, however I cant see how Poch is gonna be happy with how this has all panned out. Surely he only signed the new contract on the basis of being backed with who he wants. I get that we cant spend huge amounts of money due to the stadium but to spend literally nothing.......it shocks me a bit!

Im worried about where we go from here......

If we continue to avoid spending, the worst part of all this, Poch could leave and I really wouldn't blame him.

It's a bit much expecting continued success from someone who your not willing to back in the transfer market.

'This week many things can happen' - Pochettino delivers transfer update but he's 'not relaxed'
The Spurs boss admitted he is not as calm as previously thought

What a difference a few days in the transfer window can make for a Premier League manager and Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is no different.

Tottenham have yet to do any first team transfer business this window with no new arrivals and none of the players linked with the exit door have approached it and there are now just six days left of the summer window.

Pochettino made it clear last season that he wanted new signings to arrive in time for pre-season but that has not happened.

Spurs' transfer business has been complicated slightly by the fact that they are looking for British players to balance a squad that already has four too many 'non locally-trained' for the Champions League. Also the key players linked with a move away, like Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose were all involved in the World Cup until the final weekend.

After the pre-season match against Barcelona on Saturday night Pochettino was asked if he was relaxed and he answered: "Yes of course. After many years in football, I think nothing’s going to change if you have different moods or humour."

However, fast forward a few days to the end of the tour though and it was pointed out to the Argentine that he seemed quite happy if Spurs did not bring in any new players during the window.

"No I am not relaxed. I am a coach and when you are a coach you cannot be relaxed," he said. "You need to be confident and trust in the people that you have, and the way we work.

"But of course football is always about adding more quality every season like different clubs, our contenders are doing. If we cannot do that we need to try to be creative and of course the help from the younger players would be amazing.

"They showed they can help us if we don’t sign players."

"We are working so hard but still we are like we were on the first day of the transfer window, with no signings," he said.

On how that situation has been allowed to happen, Pochettino was not offering up any reasons: "I think I am not the person to explain this. Of course people expect a manager to explain it.

"But in this situation for different reasons it has been difficult to add players who can help us. But you know in the last week can happen many things."

Stark contrast to the end of the season when he was fuelled with optimism and talking about being brave and getting signings early.

I really hope this isn't the beginning of the end for him. But I wouldn't blame him at all with all our rivals strengthening and us standing still.

Doesn't seem happy at all, love to see how the BSODL's and happy clappers put a positive spin on those quotes. I've no doubt they will find a way.
