Agreed but what would we all think if we had signed a really expensive player, he turned out to be shit, we missed out on the top 4 and due to doing so we had to sell one of our mainstays to balance the books? I wonder if everyone would be as pissed off that we held fire then if that happened, which has every chance if you buy a wrong'un for top dollar at a time you're trying to pay off a £1bn pound development project
I think that's a risk football clubs take with any signing, but if you didn't sign a player any time there are doubts, well you would never sign anyone.

We are still brilliantly placed, I'm not too concerned, but im prepared to hear it brought up every time we lose:ROFLMAO:

Man utd and Madrid must be pissing themselves over how Levy has treated poch this summer. When he goes to one of the big boys next year I will wish him well just like I did when our best players went to top clubs. If you're not willing to back his ambition then he deserves better and a club that will.

I can't help wondering if we are not looking in the same places as everyone else to get players .

Do we seriously believe that there isn't a single player in say , Bulgaria or Hungary that wouldn't improve our squad at a very low fee ?

It works both ways, Man U refused to buy Mourinho a shiny new defender and Real Madrid constantly treat their managers like shit even if they end up winning them a trophy.

If Pochettino believes in the project and Levy gives genuine justifications for this window, there's no place better for him to grow something his way.

Anything can happen, let's just get behind the boys and see how it goes (y)

My impression, Poch has played a blinder here.

If Levy did not know where fan loyalty was before - he will know soon enough. Levy is many things - but dumb is not one of them.

I think Poch will get what Poch wants - albeit next summer. And, he'll get a full pass this season.

Levy does have to answer to Joe Lewis - and while Joe's primary concern will be the financials, if fan unrest adversely affects the financials, Joe will expect Levy to fix the problem.

Do you really think he will stay next season? It will be his 6th season. If we end up without a trophy this season he will have it thrown in his face again just like last season - he was really down in the last 2-3 weeks of the season when constantly questioned. At some stage his enthusiasm for the project will wane. I fear we are close to that moment.

What’s happened has happened. The only thing I want to come out of this now is that poch knows why and how it won’t happen again.

Yes but if ValenciaYids statement are true, Poch and Levy are not on speaking terms. That sounds quite worrying to me.

I am more worried about Argentina getting Poch for the national team.

Every misstep this season will ultimately be blamed on Levy and the failure to strengthen this summer.

Biggest worry for me is United. I read that Woodward wants to build like Man City - buying high potential young players, not old established players. That strategy plays into Poch's strength, and I would think Poch would jump at the chance to lead that project - where there are few budget constraints and he would make even more money. Poch could literally be their next SAF.

I believe this was last week, and Herc suggested Poch has reluctantly accepted the reasons/excuses and is pressing on with the football.

He’ll have Real Madrid calling him next summer as well as UTD. TBH, even if we had a good window, I’d still have been a bit worried about Poch leaving us next summer but now, as things stand, I think it’s quite likely.

Even if we finish 4th it’s going to be hard to turn down both Real Madrid and UTD. They’ll be interviews where he mentions broken promises.

If we absolutely smash the league this season and win a cup then maybe, a long with some serious investment, perhaps he’ll give us another couple of years but I’m not holding my breath. It’s been a nice run, though, and I’m still optimistic (ish) about getting 4th.

You mean the kind of players that people (Poch included) moan about?

Don't think anyone on here moaned about Foyth last year.

Jan Fiete - Arp was a perfect example of that. He could have likely been had for what 7 mil? Couldn't even take a punt on that?

Cherry picker alert!

How about N'Jie, N'koudou, Wimmer, Stambouli etc. Etc.?

What has Arp done to let you think he can help us now? He couldnt make the squad of division 2 Hamburg in the first game...

Will be surprised if Mourinho lasts the season. Poch will definately be United’s number 1 target and really I don’t blame him

He'll have no project to start there. If he goes, he might want somewhere like Leeds so he could start a real project with his mentor assisting at the back.

Cherry picker? I'd say that Wimmer worked out quite well as we quadrupled what we paid for him.

I would say Arp is a completely different scenario than all of those guys, he's 18 (which may make him HG as he would turn 21 in his 3rd season with the club), first player born in the 2000's to feature & score in the Bundesliga, dominates his age group with 18 goals in 19 caps for the German u-17s not to mention is a Spurs fan and Kane is his idol. That's a little different than players from the French league who weren't exactly stand outs in the first place in their early 20's.

@carpediem991 never once said he would help us now. One for the future there pal... We didn't even do that. He wouldn't have counted against HG, would have just been a smart purchase on a potential player for the future.

I tend to agree one or two prospects would be nice too, but with our academy in mind I don't see it a s big failure to not have done that. What we need is quality now while we have such a strong squad close to win something.

Rather question why we can not keep or promote our hottest prospects.

Agree that was what we need but that shouldn't stop us from continuing to look at players like Arp. It was my whole point with Grealish, as long as it doesn't effect our budget for our first team needs I'm all for bringing in highly rated youth players.

Can't really say that Wimmer was a successful signing by the fact we managed to sell him.

Poch has made it clear he doesn't want any squad fillers, only players who can push the first team. That's why we're not doing a Chelsea and buying loads of young players who "might" one day make a difference, as that's what the academy is seen to cover
