I do wonder what his current plan for our playing style is.

Two seasons ago we were regularly described as “animals” with the way we pressed and played physically.

Then last season we played a slightly slower tempo as we appeared to try and pace ourselves better.

Right now we are not pressing in the same way but have not bought ball players in defence or the deeper midfield positions.

If we are to compete at the top level we need a style of play suited to our players. Not convinced we have that right now.

By proper ambition I mean use the summer transfer window to improve the playing squad from one season to the next.

I simply don't believe that there isn't a player on the planet earth that the 10th richest club in the world could afford, and Pochettino would like in his squad. It isn't credible.
This. I notice there is already a winter transfer wish list thread running, I hope none of the people swallowing the club line that there is no one available that can improve us will be adding to the wish list. Bit hypocritical. Have you noticed if you question them about no one available they scream go on tell us who you'd buy.

I thought that post match press conference he gave was fucking embarrassing last night. That was Mourinho lite.

I'm interested to see how Pochettino and the players deal with this pressure.

He's a manager who appears to have always had nice things said about him, and never (certainly in England) been under any real pressure or had to pull the performances back from a particularly bad run like this.

Likewise, these players. They have had so much praise from all quarters over the past few years, and they deserved it. However, they've never had to deal with very much pressure and/or expectation. It'll be interesting to see which ones actually want the ball on Saturday.

I personally feel the reaction to these few bad results has been exacerbated by a general sense of bad blood from the fans over the stadium, ticket prices, poor communication and lack of investment in the team.

The media is also keen to dig the knife in because they absolutely love to create uncertainty around players being off-form, wanting away, manager unhappy etc. It all creates debate and sells, which is why they exist.

My opinion is that last night showed some good signs of us getting into our rhythm again, after a disrupted start to the season. I think Poch is the best thing we've had in ages, and I trust totally that he'll turn it around.

Not nice to see him so flustered, but it's good for him long-term. He'll learn about himself and the players if we get out of this period.

A technical reason Alderweireld might not have played is so he can play in the CL later in the season, after he is sold in Jan.
As for Tripps, if we are looking to get some money together to improve the squad, we'd get a fair amount for him after his WC heroics and we have good cover for RB. If he is to be sold to a big club, again it helps if he is clear to play CL, although quite which CL club might be interested I dunno.

In the immediate term, the issue of playing out from the back and sloppy and risky passing to each other just outside our own area, or players deliberately turning back and into trouble unnecessarily needs to be addressed very quickly, we have done this in every game we have played this season, and it simply cannot be allowed to continue in these areas when our pass accuracy is so poor.

They only reason we didn't come unstuck against Newcastle Man Utd and Fulham is because they failed to punish us when we did even though they all had many chances to but wasted them.

If Poch and the coaching staff have watched the Brighton games especially how they played against Man Utd and Southampton (in the 2nd half) , he should realise very quickly that they will be all over us in the way they were against Southampton and Man Utd, where they harassed them and bullied them in these areas and got two goals in each game and could have had more. They were also dangerous from set pieces. Man Utd and Southampton played as poorly in defence as we have been doing all season, and they made similar mistakes to the ones we have been making.

Either the players are ignoring his instructions and playing it risky and unnecessarily inviting trouble in this way on a regular basis or he is instructing them to play in this way, either way it has to stop immediately, because if it doesn't I fear we will probably have to score at least two just to pick up a point, frankly there is no way we will keep the score down to two goals away to Brighton let alone keep a clean sheet if we simply play rinse and repeat...

Herc's ratings on some of these posts have me back off the ledge a bit (after his post put me on the ledge). Seems there may be blame to be shared between Poch and Levy, with each of them a bit perturbed at the other. Boys need to work it out and get a plan in place to try and right the ship through January and hopefully get some fresh blood in at that time.

You only need to look at the team Klopp fielded against PSG to appreciate that it's not always the best players that win.. You know for a fact that Klopp urged and motivated them to victory.

The same cannot be said about Poch's motivational abilities right now. In fact, it's been lacking a fair amount of time now.

I think we've finally broken him. He's changed so much, even from the end of last season. It's like he was bitten by an evil insect and has turned into 'dark poch'.

Seems grumpy, intolerant and stubborn. His last few press conferences have all been confrontational. Yes it will be in large part to the dickhead journalists but doesn't seem himself. Even down to black suit etc

And the dark suit is horrific. No need for it.

If there's 1 thing I learnt this summer it's that you shouldn't allow the itk to sway your mood towards the club, work with the facts not whether somebody likes a forum post or not.

If there's 1 thing I learned this summer it's to take all ITK as gospel, so I will continue to do so and live a happy and healthy life without any emotional rollercoastering whatsoever.

After following them for many years I've come to the conclusion that ITKs are not that different to other media - they are just another club mouthpiece - they pass on information in good faith but the pattern for long term listerners is extremely predictable. Beginning of summer is always positive to get STs sold and then the tone changes as initial leaks are shown to be pie in the sky and hope rather than expectation....in the end the club only leaks the message it wants in the public domain.

That's why the messages are the same every year.

Now he's getting bitty with every presser, we know the journos will play on it and start to ask awkward questions to get him at it. They do the same with Jose, if they know they can get a reaction, they will.

They shouldn't ask dumb questions though, does anybody here honestly think Trippier and Alder not being in that 11 caused us to lose yesterday? or was it 2 poor substitutions which they wouldn't have made a difference to anyway.

They ask them for a reaction, their job is to create headlines so if Poch is getting pissy at the media for asking those questions he should leanr to deal with them a bit better, it's whats expected of managers these days.
