We’re tired, say Tottenham players

Spurs lost 2-1 away at Inter in the Champions League on TuesdayALAMY

Several Tottenham Hotspur players claim that the team’s slump is down to exhaustion and mental fatigue and believe they should be given more days off.

Tottenham suffered a third successive defeat for the first time under Mauricio Pochettino when they lost 2-1 away at Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday but the players were made to sleep at the training ground afterwards.

They stayed at the new Lodge hotel at the club’s Enfield base for the first time after returning from Milan at midnight, before training yesterday in preparation for Saturday’s Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion. The players have no issue with spending the night at the Lodge, which was built in the summer and used for rest periods between double training sessions during pre-season, but it has added to the feeling of some in the dressing room that they are being worked too hard, particularly given that many of them were heavily involved at the World Cup.

The impact of Pochettino’s training regime has been exacerbated by the after-effects of the tournament in Russia, which included 12 Tottenham players — third only to Manchester City and Chelsea in terms of Premier League representation — eight of whom reached the semi-finals.

Tottenham insist that the manager’s training schedule has not changed during his four years at the club, although that is part of some of the players’ grievance as complaints about a lack of time off are longstanding.

These are poch’s words about not rushing Dele back. Doesn’t exactly correlate with that twat hughes’s nonsense.

Dele Alli is training again, is he ready to play?

Still we need to wait tomorrow to assess him, to see if he’ll be part of the squad. Today was a recovery day for everyone and it’s difficult to judge today if he’s ready or not to play. Tomorrow we’ll see if he’s ready or not to be part, if it’s possible for him to help or maybe if we need to wait a few days more to involved him in the competition.

In a losing run, are you tempted to take more risks if he’s not 100 per cent?

No, we’re never going to put ourselves or our interests in front, taking risks with a player. It’s impossible. After four years you know very well we’re never going to put a player at risk because we win. We need to win and the most important thing is all the players who are going to be on the pitch, we need to feel they’re 100 per cent. Of course football, it’s a sport where you always assume risk, but not consciously. If you’re conscious you are going to take a risk, it’s impossible for us to take a decision and then something wrong happens when you knew it was a massive risk.”

I picture it going like this:

Poch, I want one of: Ndombele, Ceballos, Kovacic, or De Jong for central midfield.
Levy: I'll do 30mil with a 4 year payment plan to those clubs.
Them: Fuck off.
Levy: To Poch- how about Andre Gomes.
Poch: Fuck off.
In essence the 2018 summer window

I trust him that he can turn it around.

I’ve a feeling we will look back at this bad period in a month’s time and shrug. Bad patches happen to all teams in a season, let’s hope this is our only one and we are getting it out the way now.

It's not about the money it's the principal of selling our players one line and then doing the opposite for yourself.
I get that. But it's not like Levy is sitting in his office, rubbing his hands, saying "this is my salary now", like some evil dictator. He's paid for the work that he does, and that is completely irrelevant to what you people think of him. You may not like it, but we are in fact building a new stadium. That will mean a lot of extra work and extra hours for Levy, which means he's getting paid more than chairmen who aren't currently building a new stadium. I'm sure he's handsomely compensated for any overtime he's putting in, and rightly so.

Players that are leaking stories like this may not be fully aware of just how much of their success and perceived quality comes from Pochs training regime individually and how insanely well drilled we are as a team.

He will turn it around. I am as certain of it as I can be. Lets not forget that this is the man that guided us to an unbeaten home season in our final season at WHL. He is the best thing that has happened to this club in a long time and if we lose him we will regret it.

I love how nobody ever mentions that the reason it was so high last year was because of several years accrued bonuses which he’d essentially not taken at the time.

It won’t be the same this year nor was it any other year.

Additionally, why does anybody give a fuck? He’s the CEO of a £Bn corporate company with a global brand, and one of only a couple in its direct market which self sustains (the others being Man Utd and Arsenal). And he has made the company what it is from a huge disadvantage compared to those competitors when he became Chairman. In any other industry he’d be taking home £20m per year. I’d understand the frustration if we were struggling, under performing or in danger of going bust, but that’s not the case. Fact is, thanks to him our club is in a position to self sustainably pay a salary which keeps the world’s best striker happy. Thanks to him and only him.

Turning it around is one thing and ofcourse he will turn it around - losing games isnt an issue for me but its the fact that there is an underlying issue which is the worrying part. But will he stay at the end of the season? Not when Levy has fucked him right in his pee pee hole.

At some point yes we will get out of this little slump but not sure a months time will be the ideal time as we have west ham and city to play losing 6 points there is a real and likely scenario.

Yes it is a worry, but I'm fairly optimistic that by Xmas this whole period will be a distant memory and we will be debating on whether we can push for the title.

Matt Hughes you are talking crap where your information comes from god only knows .
All the noises coming from the players does not mention any of the things that you state as fact.
You are just one among many who seem to take great joy in having a pop at all things spurs (the players /the manager/ the fans/ the stadium delay)as with all weak or bully types their answer to things is have a go when the opponent is at its weakest as we are at this moment in time but I can tell you that all my spurs friends are of the same opinion and that is things will turn for the better and so until that occurs we will have to put up with inane crap reporting like this .I must say that I won't be holding my breath that this type of reporting will stop as I value my life.

It is me who is the fool for constantly expecting better than this and constantly being disappointed.
No one is suggesting anyone is a fool mate but I get fed up with repeatedly being force fed this line of we should all be grateful bollocks just so they can gain winner ratings.
I have said on many occasions that I'm thankful for the training ground and stadium which both are and will be the envy of the EPL, what the club struggles to do is actually win anything but then we can't mention it otherwise we are accused of entitlement very strange.

I hope we turn things around and Poch is treated to loads of shiny new players in jan to keep him happy and allow us to continue this upward momentum.

Otherwise if he goes at end of season it could be a re-building jobbie again and we lose our momentum.
