Lol.

Manager works fucking miracles for years, finishing above clubs with the biggest wage bills and transfer budgets in world football, with the net spend of a championship club.

Before the summer he literally comes out and says the club need to be more proactive than ever before in the transfer market because otherwise we will stop moving forward, and particularly because of the world cup as much of our squad will have no pre season, and therefore the start of the season will be very difficult. He literally says we need to be ready with fresh players at the beginning of the season.

So the club (presumably) agree to his demands and he turns down a move to the world's biggest club to sign a new deal. But instead of fulfilling the manager's wishes, the club spend the summer doing the square root of absolutely fuck all while all our rivals somehow manage to strengthen despite the 'impossible' market, and we are left with a tired and jaded squad in desperate need of freshening up. ie just what he warned would happen if we didn't sign players.

So the managers's been led down the garden path by a chairman who promised him substantial backing and instead gave him a half built cheese room. The only club in all top leagues across Europe to not sign a player, at the precise moment we desperately needed to freshen up the squad, more than at any time in recent history.

Then when exactly what the manager predicted would happen, happens, to the letter, exactly as he predicted it would, it's somehow his fault?

Lol.

reading this really makes you hope people at the club monitor or at least acknowledge this site! especially for all the season ticket holders who have been lied too, and they have been lied too, no sugar coating it, every man and his dog could see it werent gonna be ready, genuinely dont think it would be as bad if there was just a bit of clarity from the club, but there just isnt!

If there's a more accurate and insightful chronicle of this summer's latest Levy-inspired transfer window fuckup, I've yet to read it. Absolutely hits the nail on the head. It's sad to say that you've articulated perfectly what a good proportion of our fans are thinking right now, Ben.

I can't believe someone hasn't come along yet to explain that "being brave" was a reference to anything other than investment in the team. Honestly people have even suggested that it meant being "brave" enough to not sign players.

When people say "he can turn this around" where are we heading and where will he turn this around to?

All speculation that is why your post seems sensational. But you know fuck all about what has really occurred in the events. You would do good punting on Talksport!

What part of it is speculation exactly, Poch did say those things before the season started, the person who wrote the post said presumably on Poch's demands and he was Madrids first choice, I don't see how you can say that's all speculation.

Matt Hughes you are talking crap where your information comes from god only knows .
All the noises coming from the players does not mention any of the things that you state as fact.
You are just one among many who seem to take great joy in having a pop at all things spurs (the players /the manager/ the fans/ the stadium delay)as with all weak or bully types their answer to things is have a go when the opponent is at its weakest as we are at this moment in time but I can tell you that all my spurs friends are of the same opinion and that is things will turn for the better and so until that occurs we will have to put up with inane crap reporting like this .I must say that I won't be holding my breath that this type of reporting will stop as I value my life.
Dont tell us, tell him!

I believe Levy willing and able to tell Poch whatever he wants to hear at a given moment, and then, without batting an eyelid, to go back on his word. He's done it before.
Levy after all is only interested in property development and asset growth. Sporting success comes in a distant second in his planning and calculations.
But sporting success in this business would be the quickest and best way to increase the value of the club's assets or have I got that wrong? You can therefore continue to speculate what Mr Levy has or has not done.

He's a lifelong fan but, even as a child, it's rumoured he only bought a season ticket so he could measure up for flats using a Fisher Price measuring tape

After all, we'd be so much better off as a club if we had loads of debts, White Hart Lane with no prospect of a new stadium on the horizon, Spurs Lodge etc.

Next thing, we'll have you lot saying that Levy only wants to win trophies to "make the club worth more".

  • Hercules told us early on we had asked about Ndombele but their price was too high.
  • Trix just let us know about De Jong today/yesterday but that has all come out in the papers recently anyways
  • Ceballos we had a cryptic on and was confirmed it was him by ITK
  • Kovacic I believe was mentioned near the end of the window when his deal to Chelsea was happening that he was a top target, it made too much sense for him not to be
Ok, thanks.

I don't doubt that we could and should have got someone to bolster the CM if that was what Poch wanted but, of those 4, I would say that the 2 that would have been definite improvements (Ndombele and Kovačić) were pretty poor choices of 'top target'. Unless Ndombele's move to Lyon could have been hijacked like Toby's to Southampton (which I'm sure Levy would have loved to do again) then he was never going to be anywhere else this season, and Kovačić evidently wasn't for sale (there's no option of any sort in his loan deal with Chelsea and it was all part of getting the Courtois transfer done).

Nah mate, unfortunately for us, it seems that spending money in an attempt to achieve sporting success assumes too many vagaries and uncertainties for ENIC's liking. For Lewis & Levy, investing heavily in "commodities" as untenable as footballers caries far greater risk than investing in bricks and mortar. The return on this property development will be huge for ENIC, regardless.
They don't need a league winning team to facilitate that return; just a relatively competitive one.
If what you're suggesting were true, surely ENIC would have viewed the windows of opportunity to kick on and secure those one or two important additions to challenge for honours as an absolute imperative. Historically they never have, and this latest window indicates that isn't likely to change anytime soon. Just look at the evidence of the last God knows how many "net-spend" seasons: it's clear that investment in the football team is subordinate to investment in the NWHL. That's where the funds are directed, while Levy predominantly scraps around for cheap opportunist grabs and young low risk bargains with resale value. Have no doubt, mate, Levy & ENIC view the stadium development as the best way to increase the value of the club and make themselves richer. The NPD - not the football team - is their priority.

Thanks for the clarification. Although what you say seems unfortunate to someone like who wants success on the field, it also has a lot of credibility and makes sense to what has been going on

Anyone seen the recent interview with Kyle Walker?

I'm somewhat confused - he says one of the reasons he left was because he wasn't playing and was left out by Poch (as well was trophies and being close to his family). I was under the impression he was left out because he asked to leave. Is this not correct?

I think they are both correct. Poch likes to rotate the FBs, Walker wanted to play every match. Once Walker wanted out - he got the bad end of the rotation, missing out on big matches.

Ah mate, I so hope I've got this completely wrong, and Lewis, Levy/ENIC genuinely are looking to spend the increased match-day revenue on improving the squad and turning us into regular Premier League contenders. That's certainly the dream we've been sold. But unfortunately, I fear they'll look to immediately sell the club and we'll be shackled long term by a level of debt the new owners will have to service.

It's still a better dream than the one West Ham fans were sold, I think we can all agree on that.
