one thing i dont get is if he rated foyth so highly then why did he not include him in our cl squad, which resulted in him being included today (because he had a rest in midweek)

The turning point of the game was Son's weak shot from outside the box when Belerin gifted him the chance. With no Arsenal defender within 10 yards of him, Son should have moved forward into the box to ensure a better shot. Had he scored, that would have turned the tide for us.

Undoubtedly Poch's Achille's Heel is his inablity to accept things are going awry and substitutions are necessary. This is either through a genuine difficulty that he has in recognising problems developing on the pitch or pure bloody stubborness concerning his original selection. Half time substitutions are as rare as rocking horse shit regardless of scoreline or our opponent's superiority in the match. I would love to see the stats for how often other Premiership clubs make half time changes compared to Spurs....we have made just one so far this season.

Bringing fresh players on when you are 2 goals down and just ten minutes left is totally and utterly pointless. Just wish someone would have the balls to ask him during the post match interview "Why did you leave your substitutions so late ??" It is a total mystery to me why he stands there passively watching the match disintegrate in front of his eyes without doing anything to try and retrieve the situation. It has been a weakness for far too long now and he clearly does not learn from his mistakes in this area of decision making.
It's as if he regards it as a sign of failure to take off one of his selected first eleven and replace him with another player.....very, very worrying quality that often costs the team dearly against top opposition..
Totally agree making subs at particular times, as when the Gooners made them helped swing momentum their way. We were were crying out for extra dynamism/ energy in midfied and to link-up with Kane at around 55 mins. Poch made our subs too late today, momentum had swung.

or he should have played in Alli like someone less greedy would have done

I posted some stats at 5.35pm today on the Arsenal match thread....earliest substitution this season (not through injury) 59 mins (Vs Wolves)....number of half time substitutions = 1 (Vs Huddersfield...don't know if it was injury related). How come Poch seems to 'react' quicker against more lowly opposition ??

These were the end paragraphs of an article printed nearly one year ago (January 2018) :

It was a familiar tune from Pochettino himself, however. He delayed his first substitution, waiting, hoping that one of his eleven starters would suddenly conjure something from thin air. That Dele Alli would find a teammate instead of an opponent with a needless flick, or that Mousa Dembele would temporarily stop committing fouls and instead find an opening. There was no such luck.

Then came the change, one made with all the airs and graces of a teenager on Football Manager trying to ensure the fitness of his players stays above 85%. The clock edged over 70 minutes, and Pochettino called for the introduction of Erik Lamela.

That it was Heung-min Son and not Moussa Sissoko who made way was cause for further Tottenham fan frustration. Sissoko offered little in the centre in the absence of Eriksen, while Son has been their best performer in recent weeks.

Lamela was given 20 minutes to rescue three crucial points in the race for Champions League qualification; Kieran Trippier was handed 18 and Victor Wanyama six. At 1-1, Pochettino sent on a winger, a full-back and a defensive midfielder in search of a goal, as striker Fernando Llorente looked on.

The trio had little impact, yet that is only to be expected. In 33 games in all competitions this season, Tottenham have made 99 substitutions. That they have garnered just one goal and one assist between them suggests that this is quite the problem.

Little seems to have changed (n)(n).....worrying.

He was right on the edge of the 18 with no defender near him. None of our attackers are passing from that position.

which is why we waste so many chances... City players work the best position.. If you watch Pep he rebukes players that don`t give the ball to the best placed player...

Should have scored...but....that was a lucky break from an Arsenal error....In general our system was not working with the personnel we had on the field.

If he is deserving of praise when he gets it right (Chelsea) he’s not immune from criticism when he gets it wrong and today he completely and utterly dropped a bollock.

So frustrating that it isn’t the first time. Whilst Poch has been by far the best manager in my lifetime (33 years) and I don’t want him to go anywhere, there are still areas he needs to massively improve on.

I am feeling numb right now as we all are. I don't think anyone of saw this coming after our recent displays - especially after our annihilation of Chelski - perhaps that's why it is hurting so much - doubly so as it just had to be the effing Arse.
However, this season has been our best start for yonks despite 3 or 4 similar results we threw away from winning positions at the start of the season. So I am telling myself to get over it and get on with life. A good win on Wednesday and we are back in the fight and, hopefully the. Sun will start shining again.

Agreed. We failed to score when given the break, and they later scored when the Quarterman gifted them the chance.

And leave out who? We have issues with our HG quota in the CL, Foyth being left out is a result of that not due to his ability.

The first 11 when fit is as good as anything on their day.
But when Jan is coming back from a long lay off, Toby being rotated not 100% fit? , Aurier playing 3rd game in a week, dier out of form, winks being "managed", eriksen rotated not 100% fit?, kane playing every minute of every game. Etc
This performance was coming, just a shame it was the arse who have enough quality to take advantage, a lesser opponent and we may have got away with it.
Upset, yes, crisis, no.

Appalling. Nothing seems to change either.

Didn't really think Son was gonna score shooting from there personally, thought he had to take it closer to goal. Not that I've watched it back and I never will as I won't set eyes on the match ever again.

people say this performance has been coming but we’ve only just turned the corner of supposedly dross performances we’ve been serving up all season. Yes we’ve got results but the performances have been shocking. It’s only last week where we finally put a performance together against Chelsea. I thought we would put together a run of performances now but it’s over before it’s started.

We’ve lost against Liverpool, City at home. Beaten Chelsea home. United away. Lost to Arsenal away.

It’s ok but not great. We are definitely just battling for 3rd to 5th this season.

Could have brought on Toby and switched to a back 3 to match Arsenal's formation and block out their strikers. Or to bring Winks on for Sissoko to give us more control of the midfield. Son had a good first half but faded in the second, he should have been replaced for Lucas at least 15 minutes earlier than he was.

Surely Poch knew that a load of our players would start to tire in the last 20 after the two intense games we've just had, so why did he wait so long before making any subs? It absolutely does my head in as he does this kind of thing regularly.

The most annoying thing is that if we'd done any of these things on the 60 minute mark when it was 2-2, we could quite easily have scored another goal, Arsenal's heads would have dropped and we could have won the game. Yes, Arsenal were better than us, but this wasn't as emphatic as they've beaten us before - last year was worse IMO, and let's not even talk about the 5-2 a few years ago when we were 2-0 up.
