It’s already started. United leaking it to the media....

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is Manchester United's top target to become the club's next permanent manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, sources have told ESPN FC.
United owners the Glazer family and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward called time on Mourinho's two-and-a-half year reign as manager on Tuesday, less than 48 hours after the 3-1 defeat at Liverpoolwhich left the team 19 points behind the Premier League leaders.

- LIVE: Follow all the breaking news around Mourinho's exit
An interim manager will take charge until the end of the season -- sources have told ESPN FC that former United players Laurent Blanc and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are both under consideration -- but the club will spend the next six months attempting to prise Pochettino from Tottenham as Mourinho's long-term successor.
The Argentine is currently on an £8.5 million-a-year deal at Spurs which expires in 2023.
But Woodward is a long-standing admirer of the former Southampton boss -- he considered him for the United job following Louis Van Gaal's dismissal in May 2016 -- and he has identified the 46-year-old as the man to resurrect United after five years of under-performance since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.
Spurs are likely to fight any United interest on their highly rated coach, who is also a target for Real Madrid.
But sources have told ESPN FC that Pochettino is regarded by United as the outstanding candidate for the job and every effort will be made to recruit him.

But you are assuming that is relevant to players and coaches that have all the money they will ever need.
Without income and prestige generated by funding, Ronaldo and Mezzi wouldn't have played for/be playing for Madrid and Barcelona. The prestige has been largely generated by money and there's no getting away from that.

Yeah, I agree with the sentiment around here. If there ever was a time where Pochettino should publicly go out and dismiss any rumours it's now. We have some very important months coming up next early next year and an unsettled manager / squad is excactly what do not need.

No he shouldn't and he won't - he will say "in football, anything is possible"

Say it enough and people believe it’s fact. But a fact isn’t based on belief.

As others have said, Poch will have to be very clear over the coming days what he says and what signals he gives out to a rampant news media, ready to twist and manipulate every word he says.

We face 6 months of this media BS circus, and it will affect the players, as it did with Redknapp during the England episode.

Levy is now under serious pressure to deliver..in so many ways.

Speaking without my Spurs cap on, Poch is THE perfect candidate for UTD..and I fear things might go pear shaped for Levy in the summer.

I don't think he is. I genuinely believe that Poch's biggest managerial career problem is going to be managing established high profile players he inherits. It's why he would be a terrible match for Real Madrid.

Any club that takes him on needs to understand that in the short term there may be dressing room unrest under a Poch inherited / early team.

I look at Utd and if Poch comes in I can't see the likes of Lukaku, Sanchez and Pogba lasting very long with their attitudes. Shaw, Martial and Rashford must be praying for it to happen though.....

The point i am making is; the top players and coaches that can pretty much pick and choose where they are going will have little/no interest in whether a team is top of the rich list, they will get mega money wherever they go.

Only for some is the £/$/€ the be all and end all.

He's definitely savvy in what he actually says, but I agree. He did seem down at the start of the season, whereas in recent weeks has seemed as happy as he has ever been. I don't think that's a media ploy, if he's happy and smiling, it's because he's happy.

Thats because we're winning.

If we fail for top 4, fail to win a trophy and dont start in the stadium until nect season will he be smiling then?

Very valid points made there. It all depends on which way UTD want their club to move forward. That's the key here..

It's one thing that he won't but why shouldn't he dismiss it? I'm sure Guardiola and Klopp instantly would dismiss any rumours linking them to United for example. We're a top CL club these days with a brand new stadium - it's time to stop bowing for United and the likes.

Poch would definitely leave for United. Of course he would. The only thing that would stop him is if he didn't believe in the project. If Woodward is going to interfere then he might not want to go. He is a 'project' type manager.

He was in a mood when we smacked Man Utd 3-0 at Old Trafford! It's not just because we are winning.

The thing is though, the fact that prepared to wait is a worrying sign, if they've already sounded him out

Would’ve it of not made sense to keep mourinho then until the summer rather than fuss about with an interim, then? Unless they had a genuine fear of them being relegated, of course ....!

Whoever they bring in is unlikely to get them top four this year. And they're unlikely to drop out of the top six either (although a new incoming manager may prefer it if they weren't in the Europa League!). So unfortunately they have time on their side and very little to lose by waiting for the right man.

I disagree. They want to win things and be paid well so they go to the biggest, richest clubs who can showcase their talent and make them very rich and ensure they play with other great players. It's all based on money.

Because he needs to get levy to loosen the purse strings.

It doesn’t matter what he says in press conferences, the media will spin it to fit the narrative they're after anyway.
