So what are we taking from this? If anything?

He should say what Wenger always said, I have a contract and I will not entertain leaving while that is the case.

Mauricio Pochettino perfect fit for Manchester United, says Gary Neville

Neville, however, believes the Tottenham Hotspur head coach has all the credentials to take over at Old Trafford.

"I said last season that the next manager of Man Utd should be Pochettino," the former United captain told SSN.

"If I look at the values of United, you look at Pochettino's belief in young players at Southampton and with Tottenham.

"You look at his performance levels and style of play, the way in which he carries himself at all times - publicly and in private - I have been fortunate enough to spend two or three days at Tottenham's training ground. And for me, he just feels like the most ideal candidate.

"There will be others who say 'no', but Man Utd have tried managers who have won European Cups, managers who have won multiple leagues, managers who have had that solid grounding in the Premier League.

"My view is they need someone who meets the three key principles of that football club - the promotion of youth, entertaining football and to win football matches.

"So at this moment in time, I see him - and people will suggest that he has not won a trophy yet at Tottenham, but with a net spend of -£29m, or something over the last four years, he could not have done more. He has done the most incredible job and I do think he is the person who is the most outstanding candidate.

"But if you are a Tottenham Hotspur fan, you will not appreciate me saying that. If you are Daniel Levy at Tottenham Hotspur, you will be grabbing and holding on to him for dear life because you are moving into a new stadium.

"But he is the individual who fits the profile of what Man Utd need in terms of what he has done in the Premier League over the last five, six, seven years at both clubs."

He has said the right things about rumours but the questions will come even from pro-tottenham journos because it gets clicks and views unfortunately

It does not bother me.

If anything, the longer it goes, the more likely United fans will be disappointed in their new manager. I also don't think it will unsettle the squad - if anything, it might spur them on to win something in case Poch does leave in the summer.

Why would he though? That’s not in his best interests.

He will, rightly, wait and concentrate on this season. In the summer he will no doubt have a long hard think about things and decide what he wants to do.

This is for Poch to decide and he owes us nothing - he should and will choose what’s best for him. Especially when we consider what happened back in the summer.

What's with all the platitudes? Of course it's Pochettinos choice and naturally he will choose what's best for him. But at this point in time his sole focus should be at the club he's currently employed at, which just as it happens still has every chance of winning a trophy this season. Any unncecessary attention on Pochettinos future hinders both his and the clubs goals.

Right now Pochettino and Spurs interests are intertwined.

I guess it depends on how the press behave. If they cook up a storm about this he may have to come out and say No, I'm not leaving.
Press seemed gentle with Poch today but we all know they like to invent things out of thin air.

The likes of Pogba and Martial would be guided missiles under Poch. Doesn't bear thinking about it for us but it might be the sort of thing Poch would think about. I hope not.

Until May?
It will be for as long as he is still Spurs manager.

Not won anything? He needs to go to achieve his perceived goals of winning stuff.
Won everything? He's proven he's good enough to manage the biggest teams so he needs to go.

It is what it is. Only he knows his feelings and desires.
