"Big opportunities" come round once in a lifetime. That's when you have to think very seriously about turning something down. Because you'll never get another chance.

But the 'opportunity' to manage United (or Madrid) comes round every 2-3 years. They're big clubs, sure, but having a crack at managing them is NOT an opportunity too big to turn down, even assuming you actually want that kind of madhouse job in the first place. Turn down United 2019. Opportunity will knock again in 2022. Or before.

Pundits, journos and most fans think money is everything. And prestige is everything. It's as if we must all aspire to the same 'dream' job. The world is one big Christmas tree and managing United is the big star on top of the tree. But life isn't like that. People are attracted by different jobs, different careers, for different reasons and their own personal motivations. We can't all manage Man United. And nor could Man United attract every one of us. It's the same with players. Ledley King, even Mark Noble, could have moved to "bigger clubs". They didn't. Because what they want and value isn't the same as what Phil Jones or Fred wanted.

If Poch was unemployed, sure, he'd (maybe) be interested. But swap (very) Old Trafford for (very) new WHL ? Kane and Dele and our kids and Levy, for Sanchez and Pogba and infighting, Ed Woodward and the Glazers? EVEN more importantly, Poch has turned loyalty into his personal crusade. He believes in it. He expects every player to uphold it. He could never do that again if he walks away from a 5 year Contract. He's not another Carrick, Berbatov, Modric or Bale. This is very different.

What's with all the platitudes? Of course it's Pochettinos choice and naturally he will choose what's best for him. But at this point in time his sole focus should be at the club he's currently employed at, which just as it happens still has every chance of winning a trophy this season. Any unncecessary attention on Pochettinos future hinders both his and the clubs goals.

Right now Pochettino and Spurs interests are intertwined.

Agreed - and that's why he won't and shouldn't do what some are demanding and "immediately come out and shut down all this speculation" - he'll do his utmost to give nothing away and ignore it. He's got lots of things to do this season - he can think about United in the summer.

What happens, happens. The day Poch finally does leave, then it's well worth remembering that the Spurs job will be a bloody attractive one. By then it'll be down to hiring well, and hope that someone like Tuchel has been fired for now winning the CL at a canter.

I am worried that Poch contradicted himself recently when he said he didn't envisage being here for ten years, when in the past he has said that he'd like to be there as long as Ferguson and Wenger. The thing is that this is a very rare chance to mould a club in your own image, although I guess that the same could apply now to ManU as it's been three managers since Ferguson.

This is a good point. The amount of applications that we'd get from across Europe would be extensive. The club has moved up a level in recent years. It's an extremely attractive job now.

It's also why it's far from a given that Poch would walk away from it, even with the lure of Utd.

If he goes he goes, he'd certainly leave us in a much better position than when he joined. That said, my gut says he stays, just like it did when Madrid wanted him.

There's also a knock on effect if Poch leaves for United. They would absolutely be in for Kane within a couple of seasons. Poch and Kane's relationship is so close. For United it is a great way to weaken and destabilize a rival and strengthen themselves at the same time. It really would be catastrophic if Poch went to United this summer.

Pochettino will leave for a super club ( not Manunited) when he has achieved what he has set out to achieve at Spurs. He hasn’t won anything yet and has a lot of work to do still at this fantastic club he has helped build and mould into his own. He has a huge season ahead and next with a full blooded season in our world class new stadium. Poch goes when he is ready to go, not when those desperate Manc ****s decide they want him. God, I can’t fucking stand the Manc toss pots.

Why Gooner ? Is that the only way you'll taste success again?

Go back to your Gooner forum. Poch ain't going anywhere. I guess you won't be smiling anytime soon... you'll be crying tomorrow night. Hopefully another 5-1 on the way.

If Poch is true to his word and/or Levy actually backs him I can't see him leaving, if Poch isn't true to his word and/or Levy continues to Penny pinch then anything is possible, time will tell. Either way I am concerned like Capello leaving England it could derail us a little. Also, would be a big loss if he went but when Bale left I thought I'd have to wait another 20 years for the next world class player, then Kane arrived...

Some of you lot love a good meltdown. If you look at the history of this thread it's speculation followed by meltdown followed by Poch coming out and saying he's going no where. Do we really need to go through the whole process again to shut some of you the fuck up?

Unfortunately not just Kane but Dele, Eriksen and Lloris but I'm 99.9% sure he stays and finishes the job. Especially with the New Stadium, without the Stadium he goes. Thank Christ we built that bloody thing and Poch had a big say in the design too ?

Mourinho was seen as (probably) the best Manager in the World for quite a few years, and as such, the big opportunities kept coming one after another. If Poch takes us to the heights we're capable of, he'll slot straight into that catagory as Mourinho did at Porto. There is a lot of unfinished business for Poch here and I fully expect him to carry on. Anything else would fall well below his own standards. He'll get his chance but for now I'm reasonably confident that he's not a hypocrite and therefore won't be tempted. We don't have long to fulfil his ambitions though.
