I love Poch but if this is the case then he has to have a look at himself, as well as the whole recruitment staff. It's already been spoken about but maybe he needs to be less picky with his targets because if he is as great of a coach we all think he is, surely there are exciting players out there that can improve our team, that he'd also be happy to work with.

the trouble is if the player turns out to not want to put the work in, then Poch can't create a miracle, then we are lumbered with another player hard to shift.

we have to sell players due to our squad size already

Astonishing how we are one game away from a very achieveable final but we are gambling with it because we are too tight in the market. Not confident away from home against them without Kane Son Alli..

Not sure we have any choice. Even if we dipped into the market as soon as Dele clutched his leg, we wouldn't have got anything over the line in time for Thursday's game.

I actually think Pochettino loves all the denials and no movement, maybe he finds it easier to mould young guys than to integrate new arrivals. If he kicked up any sort of fuss at all they would have to bring players in but he doesn’t seem to worry about it. Bizarre like.

Maybe he doesn’t trust himself in the transfer market?

With wanting signings like Janssen and llorente for the attacking positions I’m not sure I do 100% either!

I love watching that. Pure elation, celebrating with his coaching staff. Klopp would have been sprinting down the sideline punching the air for the fans to see him.

Onto the pitch and to the centre circle without getting sent off like he should more like!

Not sure Poch is a particularly good judge of a player. There are still 9 of our regular first teamers who were here when he arrived, or in the process of signing. Toby and Sanchez are the best since he arrived.

Semantics but I think Son is a better player at his respective position than Sanchez is at his.

Forgot about Son...yes you’re right.
Poch said that Steve Hitchen persuaded him to take Moura. Who is not a world beater but at 25m was a pretty good signing .

And even if we did, they'd never be ready to play (at least effectively).

I'm starting to believe there really is no point signing someone to address the injury crisis. Either we sign someone to improve the squad or we just battle through and hope to come out stronger for it.

Sometimes times of struggle bring out more from people. It's where opportunities come. We wrote off Sissoko and when all seemed desperate with Dembele injury-plagued and fading, the Frenchman become our best CM. When we've lost Kane before, Son has stepped up and has since made himself indispensable.

So who's the next player we've had doubts about to make a name for themselves? That's the power of Pochettino and why he's more important than any player.

I don't know how much longer Poch can tow the company line for in public about being happy with the squad etc.

We didn't buy anyone last summer and the chances are we won't this winter either. We've already sold Dembele, Vorm and Llorente are out of contract this summer and Toby can (and probably will) be purchased for £25m in the summer.

That's potentially four players we need to replace and in this climate we're looking at over £100m, then we have the added issues of Eriksen and Vertonghen being in the last season of their contracts next season.

If we don't get Eriksen and Vertonghen on contracts before the summer arrives AND invest in the squad we could seriously risk losing Poch, which I would imagine in turn would kill any chance of either of them signing new deals.

9 of the squad may still be here, but he has overhauled the other 16 positions in it!

All these were signed on Poch's watch.

Wanyama - was a monster signing in his first season .. his injuries have nothing to do with a judge of player.
Son - One of the best strikers in Europe now and worth more than double what we paid.
Dele - Cost £5M - Worth £100M
Sanchez - Great signing
Alderweireld - Only cost £11M and has been the best CB in the premier league in his 4 years with us.
Foyth - Will be an awesome CB with Sanchez for many years.
Davies - Bargain
Trippier - Bargain
Dier - Super bargain
Moura - Amazing value
Gazzaniga - Looks a great prospect and will replace Lloris in a couple of years for nothing.

Fair enough. But if we'd not been in the CL the last two years do you think we'd still have Dele, Eriksen, Kane, etc.?

Personally I think CL qualification is essential.

FYI - My list of priorities for A.N.Other season is:

1) Qualify for CL
2) Challenge for the PL title
3) Win a trophy

... and, whilst we are building / paying for the new stadium, if we only achieve #1 then it's been a successful season.

And whilst I am at it, I have to go on the record to say I have enjoyed the last 4 years, where we have seen us emerge as a real force and go away to Nou Camp and the Bernabeu and give Barca and Real Madrid a real run for their money, much, much, much more than I enjoyed the 1999 League Cup Winning season where we won a pretty crap final against an average Leicester side.,

That Alan Nielsen header though!

Yup. It's got to be the long view. Short term signings are just likely to give us dead wood to shift and how many loan players of the quality and fitness we need are going to be available? Fuck our luck though...

Well with all those bargains, is it any wonder our net spend is so low over the past 5 seasons?

What do we win for best league position vs. net spend? Is there a trophy?
