Have we any evidence Sissoko was a Poch choice? I only ask this as, at the time, it felt very much like a last minute, panic buy, and not a planned target; I also think the way that he was initially used, compared to his role now, seems to suggest this also.

Considering how bad Sisokko have been before this season, and the amount he has played, I think it's a pretty good chance he was Poch's choice. No way Poch would have stuck to using him every game if it was a last minute panic buy from Levy.

Incidentally, how much do you guys think is enough for 'Levy to back Poch' in the transfer market?

There are many calls for Levy to make funds available, but how much are we talking here?

Your standard 'good' player, or very promising youngster goes for around £50m these days.

Very good, established PL players in their prime go around for £60m to £80m.

Superstars are £80m+(the sky's the limit tbh).

If we're looking to bring in 4 'good' players, that may well be £200m.

I'm not saying this won't happen; my valuations are approximates and we have to consider player sales as well.

Just genuinely interested in what you guys think the transfer budget will be and whether that will be enough in the modern football world.

I doubt there’s a set figure in his head. But when you see what the likes of Everton, Fulham are spending and we’re not spending a penny then there’s an issue.

The transfer amounts have become ridiculous so we’re probably going to have to break our transfer record once or twice just to get players in the door who would push for the starting 11.

With alot of players being linked - if MO PO is involved he wouldn't lie to people to say he would be here so they sign.
If we get one of our /his top targets in early doors then I'm confident he'll be here for a long time.
I honestly think he is taking the pressure and spotlight off of the players and giving the club a little nudge at the same time.
Get Everton out of the way and then roll on my birthday 1st June !

They were just talking about it on Sunday Supplement and even the journos couldn’t work out what Poch was trying to achieve by going public about his future like he did.

It’s quite bizarre. They were saying the club always tell them there is definitely money to spend, but Poch didn’t want to spend the money on the players available.

It’s quite logical really and smarter posters than me have interpreted it in this way:
There was a five year plan when he took over to deliver CL football for the new stadium. Not only has this been achieved for the last three years, but we’re also in the final. Massive progress with all the components of the club pulling in the same direction.

Now the five years are closing and he wants a new plan that exceeds the last one in scope and commitment: he wants to win titles and cups. If the club are serious about the next level, they need to construct a new plan that supports this ambition. If they don’t want that, then he’ll go somewhere where that ambition is blueprinted.

The ball is now in Levy/Lewis/Enic’s court

We keep hearing this. Quite reliable journalists say we have money. Glenn Hoddle said in the post-match discussion against Ajax that he "KNEW" that there was money to spend and there is money to spend going forward - he really pointed out that he knew. And then there are the millions of other sources we've read and heard over the past 2 years that all have said that money really isn't the issue, it's there to be spent, but it's simply Poch & co that have chosen not to. I have been in the HateonLevy-camp, much like a lot of people in here, but i'm really starting to turn on this matter, listening to the recent quotes and interviews of his. He's telling us quite clearly that it's more about the entire clubs mentality having to change. We need to think like a big club and behave like one at all levels of the club. And he obviously seems to want to set a clear plan on how we are going to take that final step to position ourselves next to City and Liverpool. We have absolutely everything needed to do it now. Now we just have to actually begin taking that step.

Edit: See the post above mine. Says it better.

I like the idea of Poch wanting a new robust long term plan in place that may go beyond player recruitment (although that seems to be the main negative about how the club has operated in recent years IMO)

Odd timing though and being clear exactly what Poch wants to achieve by discussing this in public given his supposed relationship with Levy is so good

Went for a few drinks with a saints fan and a gooner yesterday. Obviously the gooner said poch will leave if we win the CL, he's adamant about that. Yet despite the saints fan and I were trying to explain that he merely wants to set a new five year plan and hope it agrees with what levy wants and that poch won't be going anywhere regardless of what happens in the final, he just wasn't having any of it.

This is what its all about. Seems pretty obvious to me.

How respectable journalists can't deduce that is beyond me.

He wants his prime targets and nothing opportunistic or plan D. He has said multiple times we need to look at liverpool. They targeted Van Dijk, couldn't get the deal done in the summer. Signed him on day one of the transfer window. Did they pay over the top? Yes, but looks great value now.

The early hints from JJ are positive on that front at least. I think this will be a big summer...

Has JJ posted here recently then?

I think they’re more surprised about why he would air this in public.

I get where Poch is coming from. But I certainly don’t know why this isn’t kept private with Poch, Levy etc.

Lot of interesting chat here about transfer figures etc ...but the horror show for Levy is also the swollen wages we'll need to pay to attract players.
