I am so fucking sick of hearing about this 'fight'.

I'm sat next to a guy at work who is obsessed with boxing. In fairness he's open about it being a farce, but he won't shut up about it.

For the record, he thinks it's likely to start much later than advertised as Mayweather's team like to keep people waiting until the PPV purchases begin to dry up. His guess is 8 AM. I suspect it will be over 5 minutes later. If that.

But you're going to watch it, no?

If McGregor wins won't it mean the end of boxing as we know it.

Somebody who hasn't lost in twenty years being beaten by a first timer

Fair enough

To be fair, my comment isn't entirely true, and not meant to be dismissive.

I appreciate that boxing is a lot more than just people punching each other. It's highly tactical, and the great boxers didn't get where they are/were from just brute force.

I used to love watching Tyson when I was younger, and have watched plenty of videos of Ali. I even had a long chat with Nigel Benn once about his fights with Eubank.

I just don't like the way the sport has gone. I definitely won't watch this one, as it's not a fight.

My prediction? The great boxer beats the non-boxer at boxing.

It feels like a complete scam to me. I mean, Mayweather/Pacquiao turned out to be a scam - as Floyd danced his way around the ring, avoiding contact (smart, too...) and not engaging in 'the fight of the century' after putting it off for so many years - but at least they sold it well, giving the impression it was a genuine contest.

This is much worse. It's Rocky vs Thunderlips. A massive cash grab from both. If we accept everything is a cash grab and just enjoy it for what it is, then fine.. but the hype is insulting.

I don't even see how this is a thing. McGregor isn't a boxer. It's not even one of his favored disciplines

If they want a spectacle alternate rounds. Box/ MMA

These two could be squaring up in my back garden and I wouldn't open the patio doors to watch.

Mayweather fights are always quite boring to watch and can't see this being any different.

My only hope is that McGregor doesn't try to 'box' his way through and comes flying at him with a style that he's never faced before.

Would love to see McGregor win but think Mayweather will frustrate him and pick him off with jabs.

I have a gut who sits opposite me at work and it's like having a twelve year old boy at work the way he goes in about it.

I just hope it's over quickly before the idiot fans are duped into demanding a second fight because CMc needed to be reminded in the rules.

I'm waiting until Sunday morning then I'll download and watch it then, I'm not bloody paying for it.
Floyd really grinds my gears...he'll go down as one of the greatest of all time but I find his style completely dull, it's meant to be entertainment but all he cares about is his 0.
For that reason I'd love Connor to win, although that's extremely unlikely to happen...the whole sport would be made a mockery of if one of the 'greats' gets beaten by a complete novice in his first professional fight.

He won't. If he's disqualified no pay day. He won't risk anything

I have to admit I can't say I'm concerned with the nature of the fight or how this has seemed like a bit of a media circus. I think both guys have done a great job in promoting the fight and especially Conor as he's got people really believing he can win with his big mouth.

Regardless of how I think the fight will turn out I can't wait to see it played out.

Will not watch this. Don't like either of them. Mayweather I can appreciate the skill but you're not going to rush out and watch his fights. McGregor is someone with very average talent who has largely got where he is because of his 'character' which gives the Irish and Americans a hard-on. I could go into town tonight and find 100's of similar mouthy pricks who like a scrap.

Defeat for Mayweather would be a disaster, for himself and for boxing. If I was going to call a result I'd say McGregor lasts 12 rounds (if he's got the conditioning) as Floyd strolls it on points. That way they both save face - Mayweather will leave you with the impression he was toying with him and could have stepped it up if he'd really wanted to, whilst McGregor can say he toughed it out in a boxing match and wasn't embarrassed - and can go count their money.

Which also nicely sets up a money spinning rematch.
