Oh Good grief - the manager's favourite get out clause " The mentality let us down" - If only we could improve the winning mentality then we would win the league.
So bored of this being spouted by manager after manager.
How about "the system let us down" - "it was my fault" - I don't know why I persist with certain players or play other players out of their best position" or even better still - "I have OCD - I must play one up front - I'm sorry - it is impossible for me to change - even against the worst Geordie team ever to visit the Lane - I must play to my principles"

No flexibility, no vision - these AVB's, MoPo's all spit out the same words "philosophy" - In fact MoPo just looks like an overweight AVB.

Oh for some flair, creativity and joy to be brought back to the Lane (Mid-week thrashings of Greek teams with 7,500 capacity stadiums does not count).

Oh for some Dutch push and run flair and dare - for a De Boer, a Koeman or the return of the man who started us on our upward trend - Mishter Jol. I jest of course, we can't change the manager again and he needs time - but once again the joy has been taken out of my Spurs and mid-table mediocrity beckons.

Oh the shame.

and the squad, we don't have the players to play the system

Pochettino has an 'unbelievable squad' don't forget. Sure some of those players don't fit the system but there doesn't seem to be any drive when we need it. 1-2 down, the clock is ticking and we're still playing the same shit tippy tappy that doesn't create meaning full chances. Lamela is playing week in week out doing them step overs but I can don't see enough end product in Premier games. Erickson was pulling out of challenges, is he scared of getting injured? We came out in the 2nd half believing we have already won the game so got caught cold. That 2nd half was disgusting yesterday after a first half of flattering to deceive.

Mentality is one thing, as yes they all look like startled rabbits when another team has the audacity to attack us and actually score against us, but if you cant simply pass to a person in the same team as you standing 5 yards away, that is basic stuff. We lost possession so many times yesterday through unforced errors it was laughable.
We have big problems at the moment, and i'm really not sure what the answer is.

Same old story, successive managers from Jol to AVB have tried to fix the problem. Poch knew what the problem was the day he walked into the place, that's why he had the players walking over hot coals to instil belief and a tough mentality. Double/triple training sessions seems to have made no difference whatsoever.

I agree with him. Something is properly wrong with the players heads.

Do we have a sports psychologist on the team? If not we ought to

Did not see any of game or even read anything but the result. Can I understand the frustration of fans absolutely. A team of players that the majority represent their country should not lose to team that has played as Newcastle have played this year, especially at home. The irony is that Pardew was as good as gone 2 weeks ago, would bet my last dollar MP has shortened as next gone especially with our form in this area. FFS let's at least give the man a decent chance. COYS.

Most likely our dreadful home support.

"WHY ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINING ME"

They can't play because every single fucking touch is accompanied by a groan from the crowd.

Yup. East upper yesterday, never again. It was awful.

Adebayor scores. Crowd goes mad for 3 1/2 seconds & quickly sits down in silence. Voice from 2 rows behind me "He's still fucking shit". Block erupts in laughter louder than the celebration.

Having said that I don't believe most of the players give one solitary flying fuck what the crowd does or thinks

quite simply it is a mentality problem - some great players out there but we need some strong characters in the team. It's like they give up after seeing us miss all those chances. Fabio looks the kind so too does Stambouli - they need to be playing and we need an experienced right fullback. Lamela starts games really well but needs to be taken off much earlier as he fades badly and he then has a negative influence.

We are a poor team on paper, how many of our players can you rely on to give 7/10 performances most weeks? Even our supposed 'better' players, such as Eriksen, play well one in five games.

Thankfully for us there are a lot of crap teams in the league which will see us win a few games but we are a long way short of being too 5/6.

Let's just hope this is the worst result of the season. I don't think it will be, but let's hope.

In North Lower i have stereo muppet whingers behind me who detest Ade for his history and his style of effort. Even after scoring it was a case of it just hit him on the head as he's crap in the air.
When the ball was up North end at a corner Ade was hunched down after being hit minutes beffre when he had stayed down.
At an opportune quiet moment this twat behind me stood up and screamed at him Ade you're an Arsenal WANKER.
This didn't get any acknowledgement but just then he got subbed off and kind of sprinted off to the amusement of the two muppets as they suggested it was the fastest he had moved all afternoon.
As Ade went down the tunnel for treatment he stopped to crouch down in apparent pain.

At the beginning of the afternoon, during the Bill Nick celebration, the crowd was well up for the game and it seemed as if it would carry the team for the afternoon, but it quickly dispelled and toward the end there were swathes of empty seats. It was really poor ans must have transferred the message to the team out on the park.

100% true in my opinion, there are other issues, some of which can be rectified with a better mentality but others Poch has to take blame for. Adebayor starting was a mistake, personally Dier doesn't look at all comfortable as a right back, partially due to needing a different set of skills defending out wide than you do down the centre but most likely due to confidence and fatigue.

We lack width down the right as Dier does not commit as much and as quickly as a full back should along with Lamela not utilising the right hand space (I do not think he should be played on the right, more of a 2nd striker to me).

Rose looks a threat down the left and has improved considerably but crossing is not his forte.

Capoue's protection of the back four has been inadequate as there is too much space between the defensive minded player and the last line of defence.

Chadli like Lamela is not a winger, a second striker type player too who seeks the ball within the width of the 18 yard box; with Rose bombing on that is not much of a problem but he, like Lamela is predictable.

Mason has been a superb addition to the starting 11 however some of his decisions haven't been the best I will put that down to experience for now, but like many have said he has talent.

Eriksen for me should play closer to Mason, allowing for an inverted scalene triangle (with Capoue as the anchor/ ball sprayer) which should be the basis of our attacks. When we reach the final third the triangle should be focused around Mason, Eriksen and the striker, which would be Soldado for me, where Lamela and Chadli attempt to either create space down the wings by moving from out to in, or by going wide spreading the defensive shape of the opposition, creating inward alleyways for others to exploit.

Lamela, well what can we say about this player, someone who has an abundance of potential which for Spurs has not been realised yet. He does not have any positional sense out wide, he can get into good positions down the centre but those positions are usually congested due to him (and others) narrowing the playable pitch. For me play him as a secondary striker (of kinds).

[He reminds me of Silva in a way, against West Ham was completely inaffective out wide, when he gets central just behind Aguero he was able to dictate the play around the 18 yard box, if Aguero was on the form he was against us, it would have been a win for City without a doubt.]

All in all I would go for a line-up that defends (Non counter attacks) like this:

(4-3-3)

Lloris

Chiriches* Fazio Vertonghen Rose

Capoue Mason

Eriksen
Lamela-------------------Chadli

Soldado
And attacks like this:

Lloris

Fazio -------------Vertonghen
Capoue
Chiriches*--------------------------------------------Rose
Mason -----------Eriksen
Lamela

Soldado

* - Until Naughton/ Walker is fit
But hey, that essay is just my belief.
