Ah, just saw the date of that was June 10th, so that is before the World Cup started. Even if we are interested I doubt 14,5 million Euros is going to be close to enough for him by the end of the world cup.

Where would we even play him? When I've seen him he has played wide or as an attacking midfield type, but I can't stop thinking that he would be best as a second striker ala Bergkamp. I guess you play him anywhere but if he was in that role it would be difficult to know whether we were playing 442 or 451, it could continually change during the match.

I've only seen the 1 Germany game and he looks great. I don't know where we would fit him in. It would have to be a change of formation I think. Unless he could play alongside Palacios with Modric on the left. He doesn't look like an ideal partner for Palacios though, as he looks a lot better in behind a striker. To fit him in we would ideally go with a similar system to Barca, with Modric and Ozil playing the role of Xavi and Iniesta.

Not going to happen of course. Joe Cole is a lot more realistic, and probably more ideal for our current formation because he can play in from the left.

If we were to sign a world class striker we could play Ozil just off him with a midfield of Cole Modric Hudd or Palacios and Lennon. 3 Quality signings for an outlay of c £40 - £50m.

Ok but then doesn't Modric and Krancjar come "in from the left"? And doesn't Bale play down the left?

Not really sure where we are going to put all of these midfield players really!? If we do get Cole (big IF) i can only see him playing off a lone striker.

I think you are right, with someone of his talent we would have to change the team to the following shape:

Gomes

Charlie - King - Dawson - BAE

Palacios - Modric

Lennon - Ozil - Bale

New Striker
You could obv swap a load of players around in that formation as I havent even mentioned THudd, Krancy, Sandro & Gudjohnson in that team!

I prefer Cole in from the left to Modric. I'm pretty sure Modric will play centre midfield next season. We've been linked with too many left sided right footed players now (Cole, Bellamy, Young).

I think Modric, Sandro, Palacios and Huddlestone will be our central midfielders next season. So a left midfielder to compete with Kranjcar aswell as a top quality number 9 are most likely what we'd be looking for.

Bale left back, Modric central midfield, Cole left midfield, Kranjcar bench?

That's how I see it anyway. Cole is still a big upgrade on Kranjcar who was at times our weakest player last season (harsh I know). That's not to say Kranjcar isn't good and wasn't an absolute bargain because he was but he is not a guarenteed starter for sure, he was just better than average for Portsmouth and was streakily good for us.

I do like this set up. Although my main concern would be lack of goals. We would need a 30+ a season striker (Drogba, Torres, Rooney) to pull it off, and i'm not sure we can get that good a striker. We probably would need a goalscoring left atacker aswell really. Similar to how Man Utd or Barca had to rely on Messi and Ronaldo to aid the likes of Rooney and Ibrahimovic.

I think our best hope is to have another effective partnership up front. A pairing who can score 20+ goals each. I just can't see us signing a high scoring left sided attacker and a high scoring lone striker. I'd like to think we can get a great partner for Defoe, and a left inside midfielder like Joe Cole.

I can't help but think that our current set up isn't suited to Ozil, and it would cost a lot of money to change to the ideal system for him. We'd need something like this I think....

Gomes

Corluka....Dawson....King....Bale

Palacios....Modric

Ozil
Lennon..........................Suarez
Fabiano

More realistic would be....

Gomes

Corluka....Dawson....King....Bale

Lennon....Palacios....Modric....Cole

Defoe....Berbatov II

No way we'll be playing one up top though. Eidur looks like his coming back so that means we'll currently have 5 strikers none of whom can play a lone role.

He'll cost alot more then that now, try £20+million at the very least. Won't happen anyway, he'll end up at a big club like Inter or Barca.

Also been linked to the Arse a few times, M Ozil, or M Badelj should be the type player we are after, agree with your price of 20mil plus. Badelj i would think about 12mil

Where did you see this? Do you have a link could change the price a lot.

That first team has just made me cry! Seriously though I think that first team would work with cole in place of suarez to keep the expenditure down to around £40m.

I can't see the point of Barca signing him and I don't know how he would fit in at Inter under Benitez when he already has Sneijder. Yes he is the name on peoples lips right now but I am not sure he is in the bracket of player that could only move to a really top club. Bigger names and better players have had good competitions in the past and not ended up at Barca, take Arshavin for example. He was probably the best player of the Euros and in the end he settled for going to Arsenal and that was in January.

I would say we were a pretty good prospect for a lot of players in the World Cup. The bigger teams are Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal, probably still Liverpool, Inter, Milan, maybe Roma, Bayern, Barca and Real Madrid. I think we can compete in the market with teams like Sevilla and Valencia. Of those 'big' teams, Chelsea are looking at bigger fish like Aguero or Pato, Inter don't need him, Barca don't need him, Madrid probably are after bigger players, Milan have no money, Roma have little money, Liverpool aren't in CL and are in turmoil. It really only leaves Bayern, Man Utd and Arsenal as likely options for a top player to move to and if they don't snap up the player then we have a chance. Of course there is the Man City wild card but you have a feeling that they want a bigger name than Ozil.

He's apparently got a year on his contract.

Interesting.

First of all he def has only one year left on his contract. Him and Ribery were before the world cup the most discussed players in german newspapers regarding their future, as both were only one more year on their contract and both clubs Bayern and Werder still havent managed to sign a new deal (well bayern have now). Klaus Allofs, the werder club president, has declared Özil the top priority on his agenda this summer, but most werder fans have already lost hope of him staying, especially with the signing of Arnautovic they think he will be Özils replacement.

Özil himself, if we sign him, would most likely play on the left, he rarely plays in the central midfield for Werder who mostly play with two holding midfielder out of Frings, Borowski and Bargfrede. He mostly plays more of a free role, switching sides with marin. Even marin is played more behind the striker than Özil. So if we really sign him he would be IMO on the left and modric in the middle. Kranjcar would be his back-up.

Something like this:

Gomes
Corluka King Dawson Bale
Lennon Hudd Modric Özil
Defoe Pav

Even though his contract runs only one more year, Werder wont let him leave this summer for less than 20m imo. 20m - 25m would free him up i guess. They have with Arnautovic a wide player who would replace him and Hunt is one of their coaches favourite and mostly starts. With the from the Özil transfer they could finally buy a second good striker to play alongside Pizarro, something the fans and coach Schaaf wanted for years (They tried for 2 years now to sign Mandzukic but couldnt afford the fee).

His price was well above that paltry sum before the World Cup. He's been the hottest commodity in Germany for well over a year. This was just shit journalism playing on the lack of knowledge of those who don't watch a league. Like me talking to someone who watches only La Liga about Hamsek.

The amazing thing is that Schalke, under, if I'm not mistaken, the idiot king Fred Rotten (sic) let him go for fucking peanuts (3 million pounds), because they didn't see him in their plans and he wanted to play. Any wonder that they are in such shambles.
