Another clean sheet for Vorm today, all be it the oppo were poor. Probably the best combination of goal keepers we've had in the 30 years I've supported Spurs. Can anyone remember a 1st and 2nd choice as good as Lloris and Vorm?

Maybe Loris and Friedel might go close?

I was intrigued so checked out Baardsen's wiki - he retired at 25 having lost interest in the game!:eek:

IIRC he played one game for Everton as well, against us at the Lane and let in four goals

Between 1964 and 1966, goalkeeping duties were shared between Bill Brown, the double-winning keeper and generally acknowledged to be one of Tottenham's top five keepers of all time, and Pat Jennings, who is certainly the best keeper I've ever seen play for us (although Hugo runs him close).

That noted, it would be fair to say that Hugo and Michel are definitely one of the best combinations of the last 50 years (although Tony Parks definitely wins my 'favourite ever reserve keeper' award).

Baardsen weren't too bad when he came in, he was a good shot stopper but some of the other stuff weren't so great, he was a decent backup. You're right I think Walker had a few stinkers and maybe got injured so he had a good run in the side and done pretty well, Walker came back very decent after being dropped for a while

The main problem with Baardsen was that he lacked football ambitions - which is why he retired at 25.
With "proper" footballing ambitions he could have become a top goalie.

Why did you decide to give up football?

Espen Baardsen: I got bored of it. Once you've played in the Premier League and been to the World Cup, you've seen it and done it. It was dictating what I could do and when. I felt unsatisfied intellectually, I wanted to travel the world.

I don't really agree with this. The good thing about the Lloris and Vorm combination is that they are both similar style goalkeepers so it doesn't affect the way the back four plays whoever is in between the sticks. Friedel was very much a shot stopper, and stayed rooted to his line a lot, which meant the back 4 had to change their way of playing to accommodate him.

I never knew that very interesting. Reminds me of Rory Allen, Him and Fenn came in at the same time and Allen decided to jack in the game

Was great this season for us. And he definitely deserves a nice pat on the back. But now its Hugo time. Lloris has to start in the semi and potential final.

Agreed. No space for sentimentality here - especially with Vorm already being an older keeper rather than one we want to give experience to and help grow anyway. We've been firm favourites in our FA Cup games so far, but it would be beyond silly not to play our strongest option in goal against the likes of Chelsea.

Allen walked out on his contract to tour Australia with the barmy army watching the cricket.
I love the cricket, but that was an incredibly stupid thing to do

Not going to lose my shit if Vorm starts. He's had an excellent season. Saved our bacon in the home game against Liverpool, and have been solid when called upon.
