Tottenham scouts were present at Marseille's game against Rennes last week as they monitor Belgium international Michy Batshuayi.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino wants options in attack to take some of the workload off Harry Kane.

They signed Son Heung-min in the summer but ideally want another recognised centre forward.

Saido Berahino is still in their thinking but any deal would be difficult following the summer's fractious dealings with West Bromwich Albion chairman Jeremy Peace. Berahino also has interest from other big Premier League clubs.

They like Ayoze Perez at Newcastle but Batshuayi, who has 12 goals in 21 games, is another to be checked out. Tottenham were among nine English clubs to be represented at Rennes last Thursday as Marseille beat the hosts 1-0.

Arsenal's Gilles Grimandi was also present while Chelsea, Everton, Aston Villa, Southampton and Manchester United were also represented. United, however, are also looking for potential left backs and checked on Marseille's Benjamin Mendy.

Batshuayi is literally Marseille's only forward. It would be like us considering seeling Kane.

Except Marseilles are perennially skint. Still don't think they can afford to sell their only striker. But would be very nice to dream .............

I don't really know anything about him or Marseilles, just know people mention his name a lot.

Yes, yes, do it... could have got him before he went to Marseille. There's a long thread on here about him.

Gets my vote. Not many options out there.

We are big admirers of Iheanacho also apparently, but doubt City would loan or sell.

If they sign another striker in January this could be a deadline transfer. Never watched him play but apparently he was good in Bielsa's high pressing system and his goal record is good so I hope we get him.

As I said before, Julien Laurens said that Marseille are always willing sellers and despite the fact that he is their only forward right now, it's clear they will try to sign more strikers in January so this isn't completely out of the question.

He's still the player I want more than any other.

He only made 6 starts in the league (8 in all comps) for Biesla, so I'm not sure he can really be judged in that high pressing system as he was usually an impact player. That being said, he will probably be used that way with us too and barring an injury to Kane, will probably get a similar amount of league starts.

I can only add what i've said before when we were rumoured to have eyes for him - bought him on FM14 twice, second time he was with us for three years but just didn't gel with the squad. Him and Deloufouewayooh didn't get on at all (but to be fair, Del is apparently made of rich-tea biscuits and breaks a lot, so wasn't a big deal really), but he just didn't find his form with us and i ended up shipping him off to Dortmund for £12m.

With ITK like mine, why would we waste our time? Move on, I say. :pompous:

What's so good about him?
He is strong, quick, skillful and a good finisher and he likes his tricks too. On the negative side, he sometimes holds onto the ball for too long and can be selfish with the ball. In regards to his goal scoring record, when playing regularly, he doesn't score in clusters, he is pretty consistent (like Kane) and doesn't seem to go more than 3 games without scoring. I think he only has ever scored 1 hat trick, so he isn't one of those players that will score a hat full a couple of times a year against weak oppo that boosts his numbers.

I would be over the moon if we signed him or Embolo and would prefer either to Berahino (who I also would be pleased if we signed).

Completely agree. My shortlist of those three would be, 1. Embolo, 2. Batshuayi, 3. Berahino

Can we just tell Adebayor to go there as a replacement? We are still paying his wage
