Despite Keanes arm flapping and moaning he's a class above Defoe and always will be.

Defoe would be mental to leave us for any team belwo us and would be getting less game time for anyteam above us. Stay put Jermaine and you'll not only get 20 goals a season you'll also stay injury free and prolong your career.

Mixed feelings? Definately not. Keano is a class act and securing him on a long term deal shows great commitment to keep our best players and that they can see where Spurs are going.

I for one wouldn't want robbie playing against us!

Defoe's said somewhere he will stay for the remainder of his contract... Whether or not he'll stay after that we'll have to see...

having keano for 5 more years is the most important thing (well other than it will help fully convince berbie to stay)

if it means defoe leaves thats unfortunate but we will have to live with it

i dont see how anyone cant see this is as good news, we need players like keane who actually play with passion, unlike defoe. i mean dont get me wrong i dont wanna see defoe leave but if i had to choose between the 2, id stick wiv keane everytime. His work rate is faultless which is something defoe definately needs to improve on.
keane is one of my fave players, i really am glad hes signed on for another 5 years.

On what basis does Defoe play without passion?

Keane the awesome, Keane the great.
Like JD, no probs at at, but with Keano we play better football - he compensates for a CM lacking in attacking ideas.
Constistantly good for the past 2 season as well

Top man.. sign-on!

How on earth can you have mixed feeling about Keane signing for 5 years..???

Blimey I can’t believe Keane is only 26, seems like he’s been around for ever.
The news just keeps getting better.

Keep up the good work BMJ

How can you have anything but positive feelings about Keane signing a longer contract?

he's done a lot more for the team than Defoe has and is more important at this point in time. Some of Keane's link up play with Berbatov has been superb - Keane's attitude is better than Defoe's and everything.

I used to tell my gooner/united/liverpool mates that Defoe was class and got laughed at. he may be the victim of circumstance but he's been in pretty much the exact same position as Keane and Keane has come out on top

I can't see Keane being our future.

What's mixed about that? You don't like him, that's not mixed though!

I'm constantly surprised at how much Keane is underrated, not Tainio underrated either but I-bang-a-bucket-load-of-goals-in-and-you-still-prefer-Defoe underrated!

I went to Santini's first game in charge. We'd just signed a ton of new players, killed off half the backroom staff and had a DOF that wasn't someone who can't be bothered to pronounce the names of players correctly.

I remember looking around the east upper and seeing a few fans with "Defoe 18" on their new shirts and thinking, "Yeah, he is the bollocks, isn't he".

Sadly, that season he was not the bollocks, or the season after that or last season. What Defoe is, is a player who scores a lot of goals, but wastes a lot of chances. I mean he's missed two penalties in the last year or so. I'm not just talking about when he's got the ball, but when he's poor movement loses us chances. Stuff like that a lot of people don't notice because it isn't obvious.

Keane was amazing last season and was rightly voted player of the season, I was shocked when Jol started Defoe ahead of Keane. The justification was "Defoe is scoring" despite the fact Keane would have scored more.

Keane has come in and once again shown his quality, hopefully Jol is now convinced to stick with him even if he goes through a bit of a lean patch. If he's having a tough time, switch him for Defoe.

Sadly a lot of people assume that if Defoe comes off the bench and scores he'll do it in 90 mins and thus deserves to start. Scoring a goal against a tired team when you're fresh isn't proof of anything.

So in summary, Defoe is ok, but Keane is the daddy. If he weren't ours, I'd pay £10m for him easy, and I'd have paid £15m two years ago. If Berbatov is 10, then Keane is an 8 at least

Keano has, with the exception of Berby, been largely responsible for our current position. Defoe is good but he has not got the 'team' player credentials.....well not any that compare to Berby and Keano. I would hate to see Defoe leave but....in a fast and tough Prem....there maybe no alternative, IF you want Spurs to improve...across the board? After all....NO player is more important than the CLUB! COYS!

Giving Keano a pay rise is to keep him happy so that when Berba is given a huge rise to secure his services, he doesn't bugger off to Celtic.
ps. I think Jermaine and Berbatov's 'understanding' is better than Keano's and Berbatov's.

Why can't people praise Defoe or Keane without slating the other .

They both played well this last season and when on the pitch together were co-operating rather than competing which cost us points the previous season .

Had to laugh when I read that the partnership was over-rated! Do they not show spurs matches over in Oz mate?

hahahaha

If you take the last five years as a whole, Robbie has been one of only two shining lights, the other being Ledley, he's a great player who plays with his head and his heart.
