This is the article which started the Modric rumours. I have translated it into English
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    Source: calciomercato.it

For months Juve have been tracking the young midfielder (Modric) to know more we interviewed his Italian representative who also talked about another player. Hernanes of San Paolo, another player linked with a move to Italy.

After a fantastic Euro Modric has not been able to show his full potential at Spurs, why so?

"Obviously a player doesn't play alone but with a team. Tottenham have had a few problems this season, with the sacking of Juande Ramos and the arrival of many new players contributing to this. Its logical in a squad who started badly Modric has not been at his best. I've seen him 3/4 times and has always impressed, but if the whole team does not play to their best it can also effect players like Modric".

Modric has been linked with Juventus. Could he work under the style of Ranieri?

"Maybe not today, but in 2/3 years Modric will be one of the best midfielders in Europe, because he has real quality. And Also he is young, and has plenty of time to improve. He can play in Central Midfield, off the front man and also to the role of Nedved. Hes quick and an eye for goal. Tottenham don't want to lose Modric, and Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea had approached him before his move to 'White Hart Lane'. He chose Spurs to develop in a squad not of top level". (hard to translate the top level bit, lets just say the top 4 or Milan Inter Juve Barca Real ect.)

Are their possibilities that he will come to Italy this summer?

"Yes, but it depends on money. Modric will not leave London for less then 24/25 milion Euros. I dont think Italian teams can afford this figure. Only Inter, who can count on their extreme wealth and support of their chairman, can keep up with the money in English football, the others are light years behind. Modric will only be able to join inter, But inter have no need for a centremidfielder".

In this light is it probable that he will stay in England maybe with a bigger team?

"Yes, Simply because the player will cost too much to go to Italy".

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

rest of article talks about another player linked to Italy.

Sounds like his Italian rep is just a realist. It goes without saying that everyone has a price in football.

I really like Modric, he's my fav player atm, Truth be told, the players around him arnt as good as he is so this makes him stand out, it also can make him look bad too when things he tries dont come off for him coz the players round hi arnt on the same wavelength..

just as with berbatov, while we have a genuine world class player on our books i will enjoy it. realistically i cannot see us holding on to modric for more than 3 seasons

Unless we break the top 5 in the next 2 seasons, i can see Modric wanting a move. Just hope its not to replace Paul Scholes at Manure. I couldnt handle another one of our best players going there.

As long as Modric produces to the form to take us up to the next level im happy with that. Hopefully we might be able to offer him the success he wants at our club... he`s only young so he has time on his hands.
  6. ultimateloner
    Modric's found himself a level-headed agent..good for him.

If i see another one of our stars go to Old Fartford i think we should start a riot at WHL.

i fear that he may ultimately replace Scholes at ManU, after which we will offiialy be their feeder club :(

Sadly I think ultimately he is destined to play for a Madrid, Barca, Ac Milan or something.

It would break my heart to see him at another English team, I only hope the board show some strength and get a great few years from him.

I can see him fitting in Barca's system perfectly if Guardiola keeps his plan, he may be the eventual succesor to Xavi at Barcelona who is now 29.

Sad times but lets enjoy him and not think about the future...who knows he may end up staying?

I will be more than pleased if he stays another two years. In that time its up to us to achieve the requisite level of play to get him to stay. Not only does his agent sound levelheaded but he sounds pretty level headed too. But heads can be turned very quickly in the current hyped up atmosphere in the Premiership and the ridiculous pay levels that can be obtained.
