You speak so much sense mate haha. This is bang on as well.

I used to get frustrated at our transfer policy but now I've entered a state of Zen-like calm. I just sit in the lotus position humming "ohmmm" and clearing my mind of any positive transfer thoughts. It makes the transfer windows a much calmer and realistic experience.

I'm sure we'll stock up on next season's 'deadwood' though (y)

I have zero expectations when it comes to our transfer strategy. We sold Modric and VDV, and brought in Dembele and Dempsey instead of spending big on Moutinho, who would have been the heart of AVB's team. Then we splash out £17m on Paulino the following season!

I'll be shocked if we spend more than £15m on a player that could actually get into our starting eleven. Yes it would be great if we could get at least one key player that the manager wants (so far there's not been a single signing under Pochettino that could be said to command a first team place), but hey...that's how we approach things so why expect this summer to be any different?

Yes i understand totally which is why i was suprised that so many Forum members actually believed we could get someone like this knowing that firstly southamptons valuation would differ greatly from ours (no suprise there) and also the fact he has stated his desire to play for a champions league side.
On both these points the move would struggle to get off the ground, i do wonder whether from our side the club was hoping that his so called chummy relationship with poch would maybe result in him handing in a transfer request.
Whatever happens from now we need someone in as soon as we can because this position is a priority one.

We should have a deadline for this. Even if I'm sure we have a plan B already in motion, we cannot let this drag too long.
If by July we don't have something concrete, we should move to the next target.
He's not that good to make us wait this much

He is that good, and expect this to drag on wayyyy into July/August. At the same time Kramer will come out and say he is 100% staying at his current club. Or agree to join Roma or somewhere.

You don't have to worry about Kramer joining Roma - they're too busy trying to get full rights to Nainggolan who's been amazing this last year (dare I say better than both Schneiders and Kramer!)

I can definitely see Kramer staying at Leverkusen, however.

Like others have said, until the media jumps on it I'll be very wary he's going to Arsenal, and even then they have a pretty poor track record.

That said certainly doesn't help the fragile confidence (skepticism) most of us have in Levy doing this deal...

I trust my contact and he was adamant we had offered the asking price 24/25m so can we put this Levy being tight shit to bed please?
That's not saying he will come, but we have bid.

And Mikeegreen and Spurger King you need to get a room ffs

I appreciate that you post in good faith.

Doesn't change my opinion on the situation in the slightest though.

Could possibly be that the Ghostfarmo ITK was about Poch trying to convince him to come here over Goons or anyone else then?

Which of course you are entitled to, but this is the sort of stuff that ends up being legend. I have frustrated in the past when we have missed out on different targets, but in this case it will be the player choosing someone else rather than Levy having short arms

I'm calm for three reasons:

1) Nothing's actually happened yet apart from some Sun journo and Supposed Saints ITK saying that he will go to Arsenal.
2) We were never going to pay £25m anyway
3) He obviously wanted to only go to a CL club, so if he does go to Arsenal, it should be completely expected/unsurprising.

I'm not sceptical of your information, and it's certainly encouraging to think that Levy might be prepared to meet the fee.

I'm more sceptical of how Levy might approach this. It could be a payment structure that Southampton are likely to reject, or other terms that we aren't willing to meet. Maybe it's just me, but I just can't see meeting all their demands without some disclaimer that renders it unrealistic. Deep down I think Levy feels burnt by his last few big spends, and would be actively looking to find some cheaper (and less convincing) alternative if possible.
