I'm still kind of surprised that an ageing Carrick made MS redundant. I would have though MS could do what Carrick does, but for about 5 more years longer.

Strange one.

He tried at Utd and it didn't work out. Should be a good signing for Everton.

Everton became cash rich over the summer but didn't have time to make the necessary signings. Looks like this window and next they'll start to make some purchases.

Think the main incentive to go to Everton was to work with Koeman again who was able to get the best out of him at Southampton.

He should do well for them, will be interesting to see what happens with Barkley now. They 'could' work well together and allow Barkley more freedom to go forward but it could also go the other way and limit his game time. Personally think he's a replacement for an ageing Barry but can see Koeman wanting two battlers in the middle with Bolasie & Lennon providing the creativity out wide.

Sure but Everton still needed the funds to make the purchase.

I can see Everton being quite conservative and going with Barkley and Lukaku as their attacking players and most of the rest of the team forming a defensive unit.

Barkley plays in middle of attacking 3 usually and Schneiderlin plays in midfield 2 engine room so they're completely different players?

I always thought he was overrated tbh. Good player, for sure, but I'm happy with our options.

I was disappointed at the time as I felt him alongside Dembele could have been a great midfield two. But once Dier stepped up I didn't mind missing out.
