As good a player as he is, we'd have to be mental for paying almost £30m to buy Schneiderlin IMO. And that is genuinely what I believe he'd cost going by their other sales.

But what if your coach is insisting this is the player he needs and wants for him to be comfortable with his team.

We can spend this money on him but we chose not to which is a mistake. Poch needs to be backed.

I politely disagree. The whole point in hiring a manager like Pochettino is that we shouldn't then be held to ransom over specific players, that instead we use the weapons of coaching and player improvement to develop players to suit the system and roles in the team.

However this requires two things:
1. Time - it will take a couple of years to build the team the way he wants it (I agree that signings like Schneiderlin short-cut this process to an extent, but not completely)
2. Patience - as fans we have to allow the team the time to develop, which means (and I certainly don't aim this at you TM) the fans need to get over this idea that we should be in the Champions League right now purely because we once played in it long ago. Top 6 should be our aim this season, anything else a bonus.

It's a mixture of both for me.

Whilst Poch has been hired to bring the best out of existing players, if he simply doesn't see anyone who can play that role then there's not a lot he can do. I think that's what he's seen so far, and I suspect not much yesterday will have disabused him of that notion.

Now whether we need to spend 30m on a player in that position is a different matter. Surely Poch, if he's as good a man manager as we're lead to believe, can take someone who has similar attributes but is less well known and make him the 'next Schneiderlin' rather than having to buy the real thing. Presumably that is the point of Stambouli.

Spot on about being given time though. Schneiderlin alone wouldn't suddenly make us a top 4 team and I hope people realise that and set the expectations accordingly.

Not held to ransom but he wants a player he has worked with before and who he trusts can be the cog of the team. He's not asking levy to go out and by messi.

AVB wanted this player in Moutino but didn't get him. Poch is entitled to his "one player" who he wants. He should be allowed that.

But not at any price, and I'm sure he knows that. If we can't afford Schneiderlin for whatever reason of economic reasonableness then he might as well be asking for Messi.

I thought that too, but after watching the game yesterday I'm beginning to think that Schneiderlin might be important enough to Poch's system to warrant 25-30m.
Unless of course the kid from Montpelier really is a younger version?

Considering we nearly spent £30m on Willian I would not be dissapointed if we spend the same money on Schneiderlin who is more proven in this League to boot.

I thought that they are both the same age? I'm sure that BS is 24. Hopefully Poch can improve him. I'm just worried that by buying a cheaper version of Schneiderlin, we get someone with similar traits, but that is less good in them. If that makes sense.

Hopefully we get both!

Prob look good in a few matches, but just end up as more fodder like Dembele, Little Paul etc
