For me it's not about precious. I don't get offended or pissed off when a pundit says something anti-Spurs.

But if we are going to have shows analysing matches then I want them to be fair and balanced.

MOTD does talk about Liverpool way too much. Even when they were mid-table they were having their CL aspirations analysed while other clubs barely get a mention.

There's great stories to be told in the Prem.

Hull surprising everyone and doing well. Cardiff having a whack job chairman and sacking a popular manager. Everton playing very good football. Palace getting out of the relegation zone. West Ham and Fulham beign right down there with Sunderland.

But instead there's constant talk about Liverpool. It's boring and unbalanced. If the reason for this is they have too many pundits from that club then people are going to discuss it.

Your interpretation that this is being insecure or precious is spectacularly off the point.

I've seen numerous conspiracy theories on this site that are frankly embarrassing and smack of someone crying to mummy about the big boys being nasty to them

Yes but this conspiracy doesn't come from this site.

It's something that has been said for years and is backed up by the numbers in the OP.

It sure is Liverpool favoured I was pissed off when there had 3 pool men in the studio at the Lane when we got battered 0-5. At home and no representation. ...that was a joke

I'll agree with that. Also check the Lawro thread and how seriously people take it. No need for the hate.

But that hate certainly doesn't come from the majority.

There is a Liverpool-bias and I would still prefer to see a more balanced football show despite my parents showering me with Barbie dolls.

I couldn't give a fuck who the pundits played for I'm neither insecure or precious enough to care what they say or deluded enough to believe there's some kind of conspiracy against spurs

Quick close the thread we've been infiltrated.

You can take Lineker off that list too as he's a presenter, not a pundit.

Easy, tiger.

I don't think anyone is talking about conspiracies against Spurs.

They're just making the point that it's not very good television to have a heavy bias towards any club among the pundits.

I think it's only natural that there are more pundits from the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man U than others, considering those clubs were very successful in the 80s and 90s it only makes sense that the players from those teams have gone on to punditry after their playing careers ended. The bosses at the TV channels are always going to want ex players who were at the top of their game and at successful clubs. I'm sure that when the current crop of Chelsea and City players retire in anything from 1 - 5 years time there will be a sudden influx of pundits representing them too.

If you're using that criteria you should probably remove 90% of those on that list.

Not really. Virtually all of those on that list are in positions where they offer their opinions on games. A presenter doesn't do that.

I totally agree that's why they're there.
I don't agree that it's right that they are though.
I also think every team should have the same number of live league games and there should be more games featuring small teams vs other small teams.
If you're a Palace fan you're not going to want your only live matches being against to sides that week beat them week after week.

The funniest was arguably in the recent Tottenham-Liverpool game with messrs Gerrard, Carragher and Souness and underneath Souey read 'ex-Tottenham'!

You've got to laugh eh?!

I was joking, suggesting that to be a 'pundit' you have to be an expert and know what you're talking about.

Because most of them, if not all of them, are fans first. And this makes them bias. And you shouldn't have bias people on tv.
It's a bit like asking nick griffins opinion on Barack Obama.

At least if they have general fans as pundits you can have one representing each team and it's all a bit of fun.

You shouldn't have biased people on TV but you should, I don't get your logic precious

To be fair to Match of the Day and the BBC Football coverage in general, they are trying to change it up and bit, and you can clearly see they're attempting to find a few star pundits of the future, bringing in the likes of Shearer (who I quite like), Kilbane (alright), Hartson (absolutely God fucking awful and hates us with an obvious passion) and Savage (whoever made that decision should burn in hell for all eternity).

Lawro can't be long for this world and Hansen has finally admitted that he's been saying exactly the same words in exactly the same order week after week after week for decades now, and can't bring himself to keep saying them whilst talking over a clip a MotD researcher has put together which he hasn't even bothered watching. So that's good.

It's a shame the utterly dire and unprofessional, openly-biased and diving-encouraging Owen has somehow managed to get himself a job. I don't mind Souness too much, or Glenn obviously, and Neville is generally excellent. Redknapp has run out of Spurs players to sell to Madrid or United this season so he's slightly more tolerable at the moment.

I stay away from Sky Soccer Saturday and other Sky football stuff generally as I have no interest in the opinions of the likes of Thompson, Le Tiss or Marsh, not least since their entire panel seems to be made up of ex-players who specifically hate Spurs.
