Nah referring to when we got beaten by City 5-1 when he didn't give a shit and wanted to move and played like he couldn't care less as opposed to the performance against Liverpool 2 weeks later when we beat them 4-0 and was one of the best players on the pitch.

Not saying that he didn't want to play for the manager because he did, just pointing out a difference when players players don't put in a shift i.e not playing for their manager.
so then how can you tell whether it's a case of not playing for the manager or just not playing just like in Modric's case?

Because you know when players aren't giving their all, you can tell by body language i.e Jan Vertonghen.

Bad example I know.

Yes but how do you know it's because of the manager? Modric's case wasn't because of the manager.

Yeah I know it wasn't, it was just an example.

A lot of those Utd players weren't playing for David Moyes, you don't go from being the best team in the league to 6th/7th just like that.

I gather we're not allowed to post whole articles anymore, so here's a snippet and the full link below.

United granted 'Fergie Time' season extension

MANCHESTER United have been granted six extra games after a meeting between the Referee’s Association and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Two games each will be played against Norwich, Fulham and Cardiff City, giving United the chance to earn a further 18 points and putting them back in contention for the title.

All of a sudden he looks he has done a good job because its looking very bad atm and he never had the likes of Herrera, Di Maria, Falcao, Shaw and Rojo.

The transition in to the philosophy is making united look very bad. Though LVG is making himself look like foolish by saying the defence has played well

I don't think he had the courage to ask (demand) for it. Overawed by being given the job in the first place.

But he did ask for other players like Baines and Herrera which they failed to provide him with. Plus the fee for Felanni would have been a lot cheaper if they'd signed him when he first asked for him.

Moyes entered the club in different circumstances though. He joined the Champions, with a squad that had just won the league.

The club weren't going to provide him with 150m because they would've felt they didn't need to. Why should they?

In reality, we all knew that United side shouldn't have been able to win the league that year, it was beyond ordinary, but if you're the money men at the club, you're going to expect a new manager to be able to utilise the title winning squad. They probably never expected him to win the league, but certainly never expected him to finish 7th.

Van Gaal has come in at a time where they finished very low and lost key players. That's why they have spent so much comparatively to Moyes.

I think Van Gaal is getting off very lightly, but that's natural, big names always tend to.

What key players? Apart from Vidic. And Ferdinand may as well have not been there. And did Giggs even play many games?

I'm going to give this a C. You've taken a couple of weeks and learnt something about another team, but unfortunately you only scratched the surface. Must try harder.

I've taken a couple of weeks? WTF?
Sorry, months.

If you can't grasp how the changing room and training pitch would miss characters and CVs like Vidic, Ferdinand, Giggs and Evra then you know fuck all about the game mate.

You didn't refer to them as "characters" you referred to them as players who the team "lost" and replaced after they "spend so much comparatively to Moyes" My point is, the strong majority of players that were brought in for this season, would've been brought in regardless and were not brought in just because these players left. They may be positive characters, but they were not able to save their season were they? I'm not sure they were "key" on the pitch. The age of Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra was showing, just look at the goals they conceded. Ironically, if they retired before the start of last season, they could've possibly been replaced by 3 massive signings and helped United and Moyes have a far better season. We'll never know. But could 3 new players have done much worse?
