Muamba Retires...

Fabrice Muamba has announced his retirement.

I know it's not technically Spurs news, but it did happen at White Hart Lane, so I thought we could let it in on a 'bye'.

Anyway, thankfully he's alive, but a shame that his career has ended.

Real shame, but it's only a sport, given the severity of what happened to him a few months ago it's really not worth taking the risk. As you say, I'm just glad he's alive, and he's only young so he's got his whole life in front of him.

Yeah, given the fact I thought he was dead, putting things in to perspective this isn't really bad news at all. At least he's still here.

I was there that night and I'm still amazed he is alive. Shame about having to give up football, but in the big picture, football could have given up on him that night.

I hope he stays in the game in some shape or form, something less physically strenuous like a youth coach or scout. The passion and love for the game will be impossible to give up on for him.

Was it not reported that he was studying accounting so he had something to do after he retired?

Not at all surprised by this. Regardless of any exact advice regarding his heart this week he and his club would never have been able to get insurance etc. after what happened

Still he has a lot to be thankful for and he's well enough to have a normal life. Good luck to him

I don't think there is a competent doctor who could guarantee that it wouldn't happen again if he had continued playing football, therefore Muamba had to retire for his own sake. He was extremely lucky not only to survive it but to recover fully from it too. I don't think he is willing to test his luck again. Second, no club was ever going to take the risk to sign him even if he was on a free transfer.
