The Sixers are very fun to watch and Embiid is incredible. I give it another month or so before he gets injured again though

Embid has been fantastic, and so fun to watch. So has Simmons. If Simmons can develop an outside shot, he is going to be outstanding.

It makes me so happy to see the NBA take the lead in pushing for the legalization of sports betting in the US. It's 2018 FFS.

with Golden State signing Demarcus Cousins they should just go ahead and give them the trophy for 2019. The league is broken.

Strange how NBA vetoed the Lakers' move for Chris Paul a few yeas back...and yet let them sign both Durant and Cousins..

Boogie is a unique case of an All Star coming off a serious injury and no team willing to commit a max deal to him. He's now backing himself by taking the MLE and will hopefully get the max from another team next summer when he's proved his fitness.

David Stern should never have vetoed that deal, he went too far.

KD and Boogie are unrestricted free agents, can't have the league dictating where players go.

The western conference is now an absolute bloodbath with the King's being the only 'bad' team. The path is clear now in the East for the Celtics and the 76ers to battle it out.

Hopefully Giannis will take a big step forward now with some proper coaching.

Phoenix has to prove they aren't terrible.

LeBron signing with the Lakers...for sure will get them into the plays-off again, finally. Hope they can challenge the Warriors otherwise the NBA will get boring - i.e. the whole season will turn into a sort of wait for the Warriors to lift the trophy

Many complain about the Warriors but the NBA has always been this way.

People also conveniently forget that Steph, Klay and Dramond were drafted. Mark Jackson started it and Iggy was a key FA but Steve Kerr made them the juggernaut they are today. KD was the icing on the cake.

Today the talent pool is deep and there's enough to go around IMO. If teams don't have enough young talent on their roster, they're doing it wrong (Orlando, Sacramento etc).

has it? The Lakers were a super team in the 80s with three legit stars but they did it all through the draft, the Celtics, too. Ditto the Pistons and the Bulls. The Rockets had won one title with Hakeem before Drexler came but he was at the end of his career and was born in Houston.

Usually it ends up being the usual suspects in the conference finals and they tend to have the best/experienced players.

Dallas are the only team in recent years that bucked the trend and that's because they caught Miami off guard (complacent) and Dirk was awesome.

Cleveland came back from 1-3 but they had LeBron and (a healthy) Kyrie plus Draymond took the bait, got suspended and the rest is history.

It's like the Premier League, allegedly the most competitive league in the world yet only Blackburn and Leicester have broken through and disrupted the norm.

We all know whose going to finish in the top four (now top six). If you want to get to that level and compete for the title you have plan, draft and hire well and along the take advantage of stupid, gung-ho GM's.

What I'm trying to say is that a dynasty is good for business and the way the Warriors have done it should be commended. Teams are so scared of them that they lose their minds when they sign an injured All Star returning from a ruptured Achilles. A player that we won't see until after the All Star game in February. A player that no one else made an offer to.

All of a sudden LeBron going to the Lakers is an afterthought, although they're bringing that upon themselves with some weird/stupid signings.

I love this league and I'm excited for what's to come. I'm even watching Summer League highlights, that's crazy.

The draft, but they didnt build those teams through their own picks

Shit Magic Johnson was only a laker because Chicago lost a coin flip

The worst thing is that the core team isn't even built by tanking. Anyone could have picked the 7th pick Stephen Curry(the 3/4 PG or 5th G in his draft class), Klay (11th pick 2nd SG or 5th G) and Draymond(35th pick or GS 3rd pick in that draft)

Exactly there was an amazing post the other day on reddit on all the players picked after Minnesota
2008 3rd pick - Kevin Love (technically OJ) 4th pick - Rus Westbrook

2009 6th pick - Jonny Flynn 7th pick - Steph Curry

18th pick - MIN - Ty Lawson (traded immediately for a future 1st) 19th pick - ATL - Jeff Teague (just funny that we paid big time for a guy we could have had - I know it’s nearly a decade later, but still)

28th pick - MIN - Wayne Ellington who we’d all love to come back to us for the MLE this year

45th pick - MIN - Nick Calathes 46th pick - CLE - Danny Green

2010 4th pick - MIN - Wes Johnson 5th pick - SAC - Boogie Cousins

2011 2nd pick - MIN - Derrick Williams 3rd pick - UTA - Enes Canter

2012 No 1st rounder - Sam Cassell + 1st for Marko Jaric + Lionel Chambers. The 1st rounder was pick 10 and turned into Austin Rivers.

2013 14th pick - MIN - Shabazz Muhammad (technically traded, but still) 15th pick - MIL - Giannis

26th pick - MIN traded this + Malcolm Brown to GS for future 2nd rounder 27th pick - DEN - Rudy Gobert

2014 40th pick - MIN - Glenn Robinson III 41st pick - DEN - Nikola Jokic

44th pick - MIN - Markel Brown 45th pick - CHA - Dwight Powell (4th in TS% this year of guys who played 20+ mins per game)
Also worth noting they picked two point guards in 2009 before Curry

The way Danny Ainge took advantage of Brooklyn should be a lesson to all.

To be fair, the Celtics have a long history of taking advantage of people in trades....

1953 - Trade Ed McCauley and Cliff Hagan for the #2 pick in the draft (Bill Russell)....Now granted McCauley is a hall of famer, but he was closing in on the end of his career at the time. Cliff Hagan also ended up in the hall of fame. So the Celtics traded 2 Hall of Fame players for Bill Russell who won 11 Championships in 13 years, had 5 MVP awards and may have been the best defensive center in history.

1972 - Traded the NBA draft rights of Charlie Scott for Paul Silas. Paul Silas posted 10k pts and 10k rebounds and won 3 NBA Championships with the Celtics.

1978 - John Y. Brown traded ownership rights to the Buffalo Braves to Irv Levin in exchange for the ownership rights to the Boston Celtics. Irv Levin then moved the Braves to San Diego where they became....the Clippers. o_O

1980 - Celtics trade #1 and #13 picks in the NBA Draft to Golden State for Robert Parish and the #3 pick. The Celtics drafted Kevin McHale #3. The Warriors drafted Joe Barry Carroll #1 and Rickey Brown #13. Joe Barry Carroll was a solid NBA player and made an all-star team in 1987, Rickey Brown averaged 4.4 pts per game over a 4 year career. Parish and McHale won 3 NBA titles, each were perennial all-stars (Parish 9 times, McHale 7) and both ended up in the Hall of Fame.

1996 - Boston trades Eric Montross and the #9 pick to the Mavericks for the #6 pick and the Mavs 1997 first rounder. Which ended up being Dallas effectively trading Antoine Walker and Ron Mercer for Samaki Walker and Eric Montross.

2007 - Celtics trade Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West and Jeff Green for Ray Allen and Glen Davis

2007 - Celtics trade Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes, Theo Ratliff, Sebastian Telfair and 2 1st rounders for KG.

Now we had some really bad trades as well (Antoine Walker for Raef LaFrentz and his $70m contract? Joe Johnson for Tony Delk? Chauncey Billups for Kenny Anderson?) but we won a whole bunch of championships because we fleeced teams through trades.

Question for the boffins who know a lot more about the inner workings of the NBA than a casual follower like myself.

I follow Spurs, partly because they're called Spurs obviously and partly because Tim Duncan became my hero on NBA 2003 which is when I started taking a real interest. So, what the hell are they playing at this summer? The Kahwi situation seems pretty awful, but I'm generally concerned about the lack of incomings while seeing TP and a player I liked a lot in Anderson leaving the building. I like Murray at PG but don't see him, Aldridge and Gasol as a good enough spine to maintain the play-off spot with the West looking as crazy strong as it is.

Are Spurs downtrading this summer and already writing the season off for better picks in coming seasons? I can't see Pop agreeing to it but I'm seriously concerned about them right now.

Any other team would be in limbo and probably tank but their the Spurs and regularly win fifty games every season. Last season they almost won fifty despite Kwahi only playing nine games.

I think they'll be OK for now and still be competitive but they have to eventually trade Kwahi otherwise the lack of talent on their roster will catch up with them and many in the West will bypass them if he leaves for free.

Yeah I definitely see your point, but I'm pessimisticly worried that the Spurs aura of grinding out wins and a playoff spot no matter what is about to disappear. Pop's got a hell of a job on his hands now that Ginobili at 41 is the only remainer of the old guard - and that's if he even re-signs.

It feels like the whole season hinges on what/who they can include in a trade for Kahwi, I really just hope it's sorted as quickly as possible.

Kawhi & Green got traded for Derozan & Poetl

Toronto got a strong team for one season

Spurs, I would have hoped for getting better. Personally I would have loved a deal containing Ingram and Hart, Ingram and Randle were my favourite lakers last season and imo the biggest factor behind their success. They won close games because of these two more than anyone

However DeRozan has gone there richer and has the potential to go up a level imo
