Market forces innit. Bloody ridiculous money in football though I have to agree.
Trouble is if we don't pay it someone else will so where do we want to be as a club, poch says he wants to challenge for big trophies so here we go.

There aren't many other clubs where Ndombele could go that would represent a step up or a challenge. This is also a result of where we now are as a club, which wasn't true 5 years ago.

Two of our main rivals for signings in the EPL are not presently in the CL. Liverpool and Man City don't have an Ndombele-shaped hole in their squads. You can never put it past Chelsea to sign a player, just to keep them from joining a rival, but surely Ndombele and his agent aren't stupid enough to fall for that (see also: "bench").

Neither of the two big Spanish clubs is interested; apparently not PSG, nor Bayern. Serie A is no longer seen as a "step up" in the same way as the EPL.

In the end, Ndombele has to want to go where he goes. He can't be sold to a club against his will. There's no sign that he wants to join Arsenal or Man Utd. There are words that say he's interested in joining Tottenham. So who has the power here? Probably not Lyon.
