Could turn out to be more than capable of stepping in.

Was just reading the comments under a Guardian article on the transfer window (I know, I know) and there are a couple of Blackburn fans on there who seem to think that he wasn't as badly injured as everyone thought.

I was speaking to a Rovers ST ticket holder last night and he said that his 'injury' coincided with him challenging Steve Kean as being the right man for the job. The general feeling amongst fans was that Kean made it clear he didn't want him back and as such his injuries were exaggerated by the club.

He also said he was gutted to see him go and that he'd been consistently brilliant for them (but then I guess they haven't got much quality to compare him to!)

The average of our squad is going through the roof, in 3 year we have gone from the youngest to the oldest.

And from bottom of the league to third in the league.

Experience ftw!

Hopefully they will replace a few of our ageing stars in the summer as we might be back down there is we don't start buying younger players.

We could have a defence that has a combined age of 180 (including brad) if we are not careful.

The average of our squad is going through the roof, in 3 year we have gone from the youngest to the oldest.

But we had a very exciting, but very young squad, when redknapp came in and he specifically stated that we needed experince and leadership to compliment that. As others have pointed out, it worked.

But as usual with this arguement (and believe me, Penfold, it has been rehearsed many times) it totally ignores the fact that Levy has spent a great deal of time, effort and money on our youth set-up, including the new-fangled training complex. It ignores the fact that Redknapp's first two purchases were the two Kyle's from Sheffield U. It ignores the fact that we have several exciting young players out on loan, and that this method allowed us decide that Walker was ready to come in as first choice RB - and that we could well add Naughton (as cover/competition for Walker) and Caulker to this list next season. It ignores the fact that Jake Livermore has broken through to be considered by many as an adequate squad player this season.

There is so much going on beneath the surface that you are ignoring, and you are ignoring the most reliable ITK of the window, which included a claim that we are working on bringing in some very exciting younger players in to replace some of our older players, and helps to explain the seemngly temporary nature of our incomings this TW.

I'm yet to hear a reason why this is a bad signing other than 'wahh, lack of ambition'.

He's going to be 5th choice, we don't need a sign of ambition there. And he's an international captain as well as a Prem proven player to boot. If he plays, he'll be reliable. If he doesn't, well it was cheap.

I've read that he is a great character to have in the dressing room which we will really need in the run in

Always rated him, the injury record concerns me though

The age doesn't , players are far fitter than ever before so he could have another 3 or 4 seasons left

Watching an interview with Steve Kean on SSN the bloke is fu****g classless, questioning the move and saying Nelsen is not fit and has not played a game in ages, this may be true *Though Mr Bond has said he is fit* but to do it live on TV the guy is a dick.

If nothing else, it meant Spurs got a mention on the news here, which was nice :)

I think people are quick to overlook that Nelsen and Samba are/were the only reason Blackburn are still in the PL. Fantastic player, bit of an injury worry, but I don't think he's here to be first choice. Don't forget, New Zealand were great defensively at the WC in a tough group, he is a strong leader.
