Great news re Hugo. Will help is sign others.
Although I share the general happiness here about this news, sadly, if our recent experiences should have taught us anything, its that a player signing a new contract means nothing more than a pay rise for them. If they want to leave in the future, they will, no matter how long their contract runs for.
I wonder whether this will still hold true for sweeper-keepers like Hugo, whose game is more dependent on speed and mobility than some of the traditional lard-arsed keepers....Probably because they have more extended careers. They know that they are just as likely to pick up a lucrative contract at 32 as they are at 27
As he's committed his future, I expect him to grow old and die at Spurs.I don't think many people think he's here for the next five years...I know I certainly don't take his new deal as meaning that he'll be here for 5 years.
I take it as a formal statement of his confidence in the club, and am celebrating that he'll be here for the new season and is on board with Project Pochettino. It's also a huge weight off our shoulders that we no longer need to worry about losing him for a fee less than his true value if his does decide to move on.
After the debacle of last season, to get our most high profile player who's in the peak of his career to sign a 5 year deal is nothing short of a coup.
Surprised. Very nice surprise
God knows what Levy said but well done that man
I don't think it's a coincidence that this has happened shortly after the players started working directly with Pochettino. I'd suggest that the deal was broadly agreed some weeks ago and that Lloris managed to delay signing it until he'd actually eyeballed Maurice and his minions and spent a few days assessing life under the new regime.
