Great news and a great keeper, just a shame it's released on the day the scum are likely going to announce the Sanchez signing.

Don't mean to sound pessimistic but it's a wee bit deflating.

There's nothing you can do about other clubs buying players, it's not like Sanchez was a realistic target for us. I'm more concerned about the business we are doing, or rather lack thereof. Sounds like Liverpool are after Ben Davies now and the Rodgers/Swansea connection will likely sway his decision. Another example of us phaffing around and losing out as a consequence of the shameless penny pinching. Levy must have used the Jedi mind trick on Hugo to convince him of our ambition!

This is great news! A fantastic GK and a passionate man who tries his heart out. Now we just need the same level of commitment from the rest of the squad.

This is the perfect start to pre-season, he strikes me as fairly ambitious, so the future path of the club and Porch must have impressed him.

Now, make him the skipper!

No, it's been made totally clear to everyone that the reason we are not signing players early in the transfer window is because Pochettino wants to assess the existing squad first. That's not 'faffing about' or 'penny pinching', it's 'respecting the new manager's wishes'.

And it's also been made clear to everyone that we are not going to see a repeat of last summer's squad revamp - only 2 or 3 key positions, especially left back and central defence.

Outstanding news, sends a strong message to the squad, too. He needs to be the Captain (y)

Happy, happy day :)

Not to mention that it's not penny pinching if another club comes in a makes a better offer than us. We have to set a limit somewhere and with a player like Ben Davies anything north of the £12m mentioned is risky. This time last year our tranfer record was only a few million more than that so it's not exactly chump change.

I'm glad our club isn't run by fans intent on outbidding everyone who goes after our transfer targets, it wouldn't be long before we ran out of money. They might mean well but I'll take Levy any day thanks!

I wonder whether this will still hold true for sweeper-keepers like Hugo, whose game is more dependent on speed and mobility than some of the traditional lard-arsed keepers....

I was thinking about this too, but Hugo isn't a one-trick-pony. He'll have to adapt his style slightly once he loses that acceleration, but he's going to be a top class keeper for a long long time to come provided he retains his confidence.

I don't think we've had any terrible keepers in my time as a spurs fan.
The worst for errors has been Gomes and on his day he was unbeatable.

In my timeline:

Erik Thorstvedt
Ian Walker
Neil Sullivan
Kasey Keller
Paul Robinson
H. Gomes
Brad Friedel
Hugo Lloris

They all had/have flaws but i don't remember any of them being terrible (i could be having selective flashbacks though)

Fantastic news. I like his words too - might stir up a good feeling with the likes of Vertonghen etc

Maybe Hugo should be skipper? Can't think of anyone else so guaranteed a place in the starting line-up...

Its nice to see commitment from valued players...Instead of the all to often x player wanting to leave.

Without claiming I know anything about what convinced Lloris to extend his contract I don't think it was not just the lure of a better contract (i.e. more money) that convinced Lloris to stay but rather a meeting with Poch and listening to his visions and plans...
