Rumours circulating today that the FA will ask Capello (if appointed) to strip Terry of the armband. I for one advocate this as the guy is a thug, and his actions on the pitch to referees to not vindicate him being captain of his country IMO. My vote would be for Stevie G. Won everything in club football other than the premiership and is a decent role model. If not him then who would you want to skipper the national side??

and is a decent role model.

:eh: The guy dives to win free kicks and pens on a regular basis. If he receives a tap he moans to the ref about it. He's as bad as the 'jonny foreigner' types the British media like to go after.

I would like to see Owen or maybe even Beckham again as captain. Both players give 100% every game and the fact that Beckham flys half way across the world just to play for his country shows how much it means to him.

i would be glad to see Terry stripped of the armband, the guy is a thug.
i dont really know who i would have as captain, I think everyone of them has a ultra-inflated ego.
I would probably say Stevie G too, its just a shame he cant play for england like he does for liverpool.

I'm not a big fan of Terry either, so that'll suit me just fine. As you say Teemu, I reckon Becks is about the only one who shows the sort of attitude and pride deserving of England captain. I don't think Becks will be an England player for an awful lot longer though, so Stevie G is probably the best option.

Gerrard.
Every player would go over if it got a penalty. Same as every goal keeper would deny the ball crossed a line, even if it did.
Its all about winning.

Fact remains that Gerrard is an amazing professional, he isn't out on the piss, or rumoured to be racist, or a bully boy, a great role model if you ask me.

Other than that, I'd give it to anyone else, other than Terry, hell evern Frank Lampard!

King, if he was fit!

Gerrard, might not be the best role model as thats probably still Beckham, but cant crit him on his ability and work rate

Steven Gerrard is Englands worst cheat and his actions on the pitch rule him out of captaining his country if it was my choice.

If he was fit I'd give it to Gary Neville the sort of quietly respectful player who gives his all for the team which we lack.

If he is back in the team on a full time basis I'd give it to Sol

I don't understand why people think Gerrard is our worst cheat??
Neville... doubt we will see much of him now, Becks, can't really see him being part of it.

Other than Terry, Gerrard is the only option to be honest...

Personally, I've always preferred to have a captain who plays at the back, as they can see everything in front of them.

I couldn't care less if we get penalties, how many times have England been cheated out of something!

Gerrard is the only player that we have who commands a place.

Terry shouldn't even be an automatic choice and apart from Gerrard nor should anybody else.

I don't see Gerrard doing anything that I find objectionable and I think he is currently the only english player that I would describe as world class.

Shame about Ledley as I think after Gerrard he is the best English player of our current crop.

I for one cant wait to see Capello's first squadd and 1st XI. I know there will be the familiar faces but i also think there will be a few surprise inclusions, and please, no more Lescott!!

One of my colleagues used to work at a hospital in Liverpool and is a fan of Liverpool and loves Gerrard on the pitch but, off the pitch he is a completely wanker apparently. They had 7 or 8 Liverpool players at the hospital and the only player not to sign autographs for the people who were ill in the hospital was Gerrard and anyone else who want one from him was told to go away.

Also he is apparently from the area off Liverpool where the most mental scousers come from.

I might add this is all from a colleague off mine and a lifelong Liverpool fan.

All footballers are cheats. Live with it. They all take tumbles with minimal contact. It's the way the game is. If you can't beat em join em.

Captains don't mean shit in football anymore. No teams really ever listen to the skipper more than anyone else. It's just a bullshit piece of strap around their arm which makes them think they are the Don fucking Juan. Terry is a wanker so is Gerrard. Give it to Fat Lamps, so long as they can stretch it over his fat saggy biceps.
