I have a kid brother who's in secondary school (and not in a posh area either) and quite a lot of them have pre-paid cards that work with contactless now. Parents like it as they're able to monitor exactly how much is being spent and what on, so no worries about giving them cash which ends up being spent on illicit booze or drugs. And the kids like it as it makes them feel grown-up. Win-win.
My kids school has fingerprint recognition as a method of payment. I load up their accounts and they use their thumbs to pay for goods. No need for cash.

It's not that hard a technology to administer. Online banking account where there is a computer/app login and a finger print registered.

My 2 year olds nursery has a finger print sensor the door so I can get in to drop off/pick up.

The technology might be there but i can forsee a big backlash if everyone was asked to give their fingerprints to banks etc...

Why would you need to give it to your bank? It's just used to confirm who you are. So a card recognises a thumb/finger print to unlock it, the bank doesn't need to see it surely. If you can unlock your phone with a scanner then the phone is then open for using contactless payments set up on the phone, petrol apps to unlock fuel pumps, they could even add your club membership to an app on the phone. You just need that verification step to unlock the device and you're away.

As some have said already, definitely felt like a cold launch today. . Stewards on the metal detectors at the entrance, stewards directing people past the building work to the entrance etc. Lots of suits hanging around in the store too, club press people accompanying Sky around. Lots of club staff milling about too and a lot of shop staff on the shop floor too.

Was very much a PR thing I feel, bit of positive spin on the stadium front.

I spoke to the woman behind the counter about the cashless tills and she said they were pretty satisfied with how well they were working and that it was all up and running and ready to go on a bigger scale. They did plug in a portable Hearing Aid Loop next to the till ,which someone had been sent to fetch so can only assume some final bits and pieces aren't in place yet.

The computer will need to recognise your finger print so there will have to be a record of what your finger print looks like. Who keeps that information? If the police want a copy of your finger print the bank may hand it over. I can see some civil liberties groups causing a storm over it.

So now, instead of the bullies hanging you by your feet to make the money fall out of pockets, they just go straight for thumb removal.

So who holds your fingerprint on record when you unlock your phone? It doesn't need to be registered anywhere, just locally recognised to unlock a device.

What's the difference?, the banks have records of your address, ID and account details, I don't think having your finger print on file will be any more harmful.

Your phone holds that information because that is the only fingerprint it's needed for and the only device you will need it for. If you are talking of using your fingerprint to make transactions then every device in the country will need to recognise your finger print and everyone elses. That would be impossible. So just like card the device will read your fingerprint then contact your bank to see if it is registered. The bank authorises and transaction is made.

Yes, but that’s fake. If they have my fingerprint they might not want to lend to me when they discover I’m a master criminal.

But your phone can be used to make contactless payments, pay for fuel etc. So once the device is unlocked you use the relevant service to make a transaction. This is no different. Your print only unlocks the device locally, the device then communicates to the bank to proceed with payment. Your print isn't sent anywhere, it's only used to locally unlock your device.
Feel we are verging off topic here fellas
Sorry if it seems that way but cashless is a big part of the new stadium. I would be very surprised if a new stadium wasn't cashless in this day and age.
