Isn't the £750m the cost for the entire project including redevelopment of the surrounding area? Also given the complexity of the Chelsea design i'd be surprised if it doesn't go well above that £500m estimate.

That's what I thought too. Interested to read the whole article if anyone has access. The more disappointing thing for me was news Chelsea are getting the green light, I had hoped their planning application would drag on for years.

Some article by Gary Jacob in the times today questioning why ours stadium is costing £750m and Chelsea's is only costing 500M. Can't see beyond the opening paragraphs though!

Also says Chelsea are going to get planning permission awarded soon.
No shit they are. And the planning committee will all be driving away in Rolls Royces, with Rolex watches on their wrists, whilst taking all their holidays in luxury resorts worldwide.

Except fans were pretty vocal about boycotting games if we went to MK, so playing in an empty stadium vs playing in Wembley?

I doubt if push comes to shove people would actually boycott and if some did they'd always be other people willing to go.

For some of us, it wasn't a matter of boycotting anything. It's just too difficult to get there and back.

I can't get past the paywall either, but the difference is that the figure for the NDP includes seven years of piecemeal land acquisition, 500 flats, the Sainsburys and Lilywhite House, restoring Warmington House, transport improvements, a piazza and a hotel, as well as a stadium. As far as I know, it doesn't include Brook House, the regeneration of the Love Lane estate, the rebuilding of White Hart Lane station and the access avenue from the station to the stadium, but it includes everything else.

The figure for Chelsea appears to include a stadium and a hell of a lot of works to the adjacent railway. There's no room for much else, because the site is restricted in size. And they already own all the land, or nearly.

I'm always grumbling about the way development costs are represented in the media and this is a classic example. They aren't comparing like with like. They never do. Their usual trick is to publicise an estimated build cost in advance and then, a year later, print a "costs spiral out of control" story, quoting the projected total development costs and comparing it to the original build cost.

This is similar. Our total cost represents a multi-purpose local regeneration scheme that includes a stadium. Chelsea's cost represents a stadium.

They also always neglect to point out that a significant minority of our total costs were incurred the best part of a decade ago: the land acquisition.

It's an article about Chelsea expecting to get permission for their new stadium and just reports that our stadium is costing £750m.

I went along with a couple of Chelsea mates to see the plans, and have a few beers in Fulham Road. It will be "nice", but still a plastic club imo. White Hart Lane 2 will be the best in club stadium in Britain full stop . I don't give a flying whatsit about Shiteford Bridge or the Scumirates etc. It's our new ground is all I'm interested in tbh.

Chelsea are expected to receive planning permission to build a £500 million stadium in time for the 2021-22 season but the west London club would still need to overcome stumbling blocks before they can build their new home.

The club will need permission from Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO) to move temporarily during the three-year redevelopment, even if they obtain planning permission for a 60,000-seat stadium from Hammersmith and Fulham council tonight, and require approval from Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London.
CPO, whose shareholders are made up mainly of Chelsea fans, owns the freehold for the pitch and stands at Stamford Bridge, and must grant permission for the club to leave. It has asked its members to vote on a proposal to increase Chelsea’s lease on the site.

Ken Bates helped to set up CPO in 1993 to safeguard the future of the stadium. Chelsea tried to buy the freehold but suffered defeat when shareholders voted against the proposal during a stormy meeting in 2011. The wounds have since healed and CPO and the club want to reach common ground.

“As owners of the freehold, our primary aim is to see the continuation of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge,” CPO said in a letter to its members. “Since the putative bid by Chelsea to takeover Chelsea Pitch Owners in 2011, many of you have questioned whether a similar approach will be made again. At the time of writing, no approach has been made, and we are unaware of any decision to do so.”

The new stadium will increase the capacity from 41,623 and it is hoped will generate the match-day income similar to Arsenal, who raise about £100 million a year. Tottenham Hotspur are redeveloping White Hart Lane at a cost of £750 million and they hope to open their new stadium for the start of the 2018-19 season.

Tottenham have an agreement to move to Wembley temporarily next season and Chelsea are expected to also use the national stadium for three years from the 2018-19 season. Chelsea originally submitted a proposal in November 2015 but revised their plans in August.

John Terry, who will not be joining Bournemouth on loan despite reports, has lost his appeal against a one-match ban for his dismissal against Peterborough.

● Today’s Lewisham council meeting, scheduled to address the proposed sale of land around Millwall’s ground, The Den, to property developers, has been postponed until February.

What a surprise - Chelsea stadium unanimously approved. No problems, no revisons. Everything is tickety-boo, Roman. Can we have our brown bags now?

So does this mean they'll be after Wembley for next season, and we'll have to divide up the limited number of full capacity games with them?

Might they also be looking for exclusivity by out bidding us?

No we've got a contract for next season now. Chelsea's still has to go to the Mayor and Sec of State, so they won't be ready by next season.

Still got all the cpo's to pay off though. Not that those dodgy fuckers should have any problem with that.
