It would be gutting if they did some "Events" before Spurs kick off the new season. Its a football stadium first and foremost.

I think the "events" are more of a testing ground to make sure things run smoothly and any logistical issues sorted out before 60,000 football supporters descend on the new stadium.

I'd much rather that than have embarrassing teething problems played out before the media and wider football world at our first game.

The West Stand will face the High Road though, it will be the entrance for most visitors to the club, the public face if you like. Also it was the location of the Bill Nic Gates. Should be the west stand that is renamed the Bill Nic Stand for me. I'd rename the kop after Greaves.
OK, I agree the case for the West stand being renamed the Bill Nic stand is very solid and makes you wonder why that did not happen when they rebuilt the west stand in the 80's.

I'm not sure if there will be a (public) path around the back of the north stand, but if that could be called Paxton path, then tourists, away fans and NFL fans would have a better idea of how to get to the new Paxton stand. The famous name could endure without confusing people.

I assumed from "events" that he meant test events trials etc.

In order to get their Safety Certificate they have to show that they can evacuate within specified times etc. IIRC they can't charge for admission in the absence of that Safety Cert. Hence they have some free events and time how long the public take to leave at the end of it and then, hopefully get their Safety Cert. afterwards.

I really dislike naming stands and erecting statues to individuals. It's the club, the collective, that matters, not individuals, even ones as important to our history as Bill Nic.

Ed: I should say, it's more understandable for situations like Blackpool and Stanley Matthews, or Tom Finney and Preston...but for Spurs it feels wrong.

Completely disagree. A club is only as great as the special people who pass through it. And Nicholson, Blanchflower, and Greaves were some of the most special.

Interesting article david' but strangely enough I think he has missed an important point, he mentions soccer but not in the context of it being an alternative, in all honestly I get the impression it is THE alternative, I wouldn't mind betting that the number of soccer teams at fourth grade has increased in direct reversal of grid iron.
Maybe extending the league outside of the States is exactly what they need to do?

I am looking at the construction of the South stand it will be interesting to see how they will be joining it to both the West and East stands. As it stands (excuse the pun) it looks out of lining in height in comparison to both stands. Unless this is the middle of south stand and there will be additional rakes placed higher in due course? My question may sound daft to most of you but as I said before I know nothing about construction but I am intrigued with this project and am learning from it

What's installed at the moment is only the middle section, the upper section will go in once the large 'tree' steel supports go in.
They're sort of visible in this render http://stadiumdb.com/pic-projects/new_tottenham_stadium/new_tottenham_stadium12.jpg

I was watching a game on match of the day from Newcastles ground and was reminded that there is an annoying shadow cast over the pitch could anybody tell me if we are going to have the same problem I certainly hope not

Hopefully only happen once a year when Mike Ashley comes to watch them play us.

I assmune they are going to leave at least one of the corners unfilled as long as possible to let them get materials in and out.

In the future will we be able to increase the capacity?
The stadium, to my knowledge, hadn't been designed with a significant capacity increase in mind.

There is the possibility of changing the seating configuration and using smaller seats to increase capacity (at the cost of comfort) and an area of the south stand will be able to have rail seating for safe standing, which could add a few thousand.

However, the stadium already uses the maximum available footprint and is surrounded by homes Lilywhite House and roads. The nature of the roof means that there cannot be one side higher than another (like, say, Liverpool) as it is a tension ring and frankly I don't think the club envisage a scenario where we can reasonably expect 70k people to the bar majority of home games.

The realistic expectation is, unless there is some kind of major fundamental design rethink in the future, this configuration is fairly permanent and we'll need to move if we ever truly need something substantially bigger.

Levy has it covered, he already made a rainbow on our last day at The Lane, he will make sure the sun is over the top every morning/afternoon match
