People are confusing "completed" with "useable". I've been saying for a year that it's impossible to tell without a copy of the programme whether the build is ahead or behind and it wouldn't be until a few weeks before the season that someone could tell whether it was running seriously late just by looking at it.

Well, we're getting to that point now and it's becoming clear to a casual observer that it won't be "completed" by 15 September. But it doesn't have to be completed in time for the test events - in fact it can't be, that's why they're test events - and it doesn't have to be completed by the middle of September either. It just has to have had the various approvals signed off (that's what the test events are for) and to have all stands capable of being safely used to watch a football match.

Some areas will look like a building site for a few weeks/months. That's inevitable at this stage. That isn't important. What's important is that it can be open and that all four stands can be used.

Mace will divert staff onto the critical path operations to get those approvals and make the stands safe to watch football. I have no idea whether they can achieve that and neither have you!
When you of all people start to doubt, I now start to worry :(

Personally, it would be quite a shame if the first time we go there for a game the exterior veil isn’t complete ( even if there are areas that still look like a building site).

If that’s the way it’s got to be though, or we go to Wembley for Liverpool then so be it. Sod all we can do about it anyway.

The only thing that would really piss me off though is if it was delayed and the first thing at the new stadium is the NFL game. That would just be a piss take.

Finally got round to watching the documentary “The Lane”. Really got me pumped for the new stadium again. Can’t wait till the first game and start singing there. It’s going to be an amazing atmosphere.

I am friends with the MD of one if the main contractors currently on site. He was called in by Mace for an on site meeting last week. He was told their brief was changing and they no longer had to complete everything by the previously given deadline and all that they have to do now is certain jobs so that the ground is ready for the Liverpool game. He expects to be on site for a few months yet. Not news to anyone really. Just confirms what we already knew and explains why the urgency we would expect so close to the start of the season is not happening.

Not disputing anything you say. But with 3.7k workers on site you can hardly say there’s no urgency.

I suspect the urgency is very much there, but there has been a meeting to discuss what is realistically possible before the Liverpool game and a list of priority jobs has been drawn up.
You can throw as many men at a task as possible and work them around the clock, but there are still limitations.
I can imagine working on that site has been bloody horrendous, but they will get there. I'd rather they took their time to get it right.

They’re rolling the pitch trays out all the way now only one left to finish.

Presumably the work on the pitch starts now.

If anything we should have more control over our pitch than other clubs. Can wheel in and out as they wish, protect it from various hot/cold snaps. Would imagine that where the pitch is housed there is a full sprinkler and lighting system too.

3.7K still amazes me. That really is a workforce of immense proportions.

Somewhere between a scene from the WIP Death Star and Fraggle Rock.

Over on SSC, a planning application for decorative lighting has been unearthed, the whole thing can be viewed here: http://www.planningservices.haringey.gov.uk/portal/servlets/ApplicationSearchServlet?PKID=343673

However, the most interesting thing to take away from it is on page 72. This is an application for a spotlight for a 'skywalk sculpture'. Many are speculating that the sculpture is a new cockerel, and somebody ITK from SSC has confirmed that it is going to be a cockerel.

Having a golden cockerel above the south stand will really complete the stadium, imo. I imagine it'll be the final thing to go onto the stadium.

Nice bit of spin, conveniently insured staff, I bet that wasn't the original plan!

2nd one is 18th/19th August, same weekend as the Fulham Wembley game so test event likely to be the Sunday and probably not going to involve first team players a day after a game?

3rd one is 25th/26th August, maybe open training session on the Saturday before United game on Monday?

4th one is 1st/2nd September, same weekend as Watford away so likely the test event will be Saturday as Watford is now Sunday.
