Funny thing is, there is zero chance the club would have said something until Friday afternoon at the earliest about this if Neil Ashton didnt break it today.

My opinion (unpallatable as it may be to some fans) is that we’ve already:

  • requested a majority of our matches to be played away from home;
  • had special dispensation from the Premier League to play our first ‘home’ game at Wembley;
  • scheduled a test event on the same day that the team play Manchester United at Old Trafford
Now we’ve had to extend our game at wembley into October. And why? Money. A proud project and a great stadium no doubt, but one that has been done on the rush to maximise revenue as quickly as possible.

Having seen how well the team adapted to Wembley at the end of last season, it should have been then that the club made an executive decision to continue playing there so we can open the stadium in a manner that is befitting of it.

It's funny, I'd bet if Levy had spashed a hundred mil on transfers everyone would be taking this better, but as it stands it's horrible optics when added to the lack of transfer activity.

Bad 5 days for the bald one!

Chuck st prices in there aswell.

That's harsh

They're probably busy trying to sort out prices and renewals for next season

Didn’t you just say exactly what has happened?

A poster on COYS has been saying since June that it wouldn’t be ready until November (his info was posted after being ratified by mods on there).

Yes, but he knew fuck-all. I don't even know who he is. He knew fuck-all.

Levy didn't know, because he couldn't know: he has only his professional consultants' word to rely upon. Mace didn't know, because it's industry culture to promote unrealistic optimism to the client! They're the ones who will take the hit for this.

It sounds from the nature of the announcements that it isn't general lateness - there's been a specific, critical-path issue that needs to be signed off before the stadium can be used and has either failed its tests or not been constructed correctly.

This is development. It's how it goes. You don't know until you get to this point.

Most laughable thing about this is we heard this breaking news from The Sun

But the tabloids are only wrong when it’s something we don’t want to hear, right?

The news doesn’t really surprise me, but is still a kick in the teeth. Don’t want to go to fucking Wembley anymore, and since all we are getting is “credits” I was going to use the Fulham credit for the CL. However, at this rate, all the CL games will be at Wembley anyway.

The only good thing about this is at least the first game at the new stadium is not the NFL. After the shit show of the transfer window that would have sent me over the edge.

I mean I'd say it's more likely Ashton had found out we were releasing a statement today, not the other way round.

I honestly don’t care when it’s ready as long as it doesn’t affect the results on the pitch.
I agree Dougal. Some though it does matter to. Especially those that really don’t like Wembley. I put up with it and will do whatever we do. Some though will not travel again to Wembley - yourself?

Levy has only himself to blame, he should have been advised at to the operational nightmare a massive capital project like this will encounter, from various construction consultants that should have had his ear. When people try and fit in projects like this into time-scales they always fall to the way side.

He would have been updated daily on the progress of the project, there is no doubting that this is something that has hasnt came to light recently. Sparks on the site could have told you three weeks ago that there is no way it will be done to the time frame we were told.

Surely this was a massive project which we tried to achieve in too shorter space of time?

Wembley took how long to build....

It's such a shame that Levy took the piss so much with ticket prices. Any goodwill and understanding from the fans is straight out of the window.

He perfectly rinsed us for every single last penny and just about sold all tickets by the end of the waiting list showing he got as much as he could get.

We've gone from supporter to customer so are entitled to act as such.

Re: CL games (from the Evening Standard)

''The club said they would determine the venue for Champions League games after discussions with UEFA but the first three rounds of group matches are scheduled to take place before the end of October, so they will have to move to Wembley for at least one match.

Uefa has no hard and fast rules about where teams play home games and Spurs could play their group games at Wembley before moving to their new stadium if they qualify for the Champions League or Europa League knockouts.''
