it would mean getting permission to play the 4th round of the Caraboa Cup later which isn't easy with international breaks and CL fixtures, and the next round. we might be okay playing a weakened squad 2 days later, but City might not want too

There’s no absolute guarantee we will be in 4th round. If we draw a PL team away in the 3rd could easily go out with no extra time and straight to pens. But I think they’d do,Monday/ weds / Saturday and we’d just have to suck it up. Do it over Xmas so it can be done. I think city would go for it rather than be a game behind and have to wait till February.

yep correct both might go out of the 3rd round, but the time between wouldn't allow to sort this fixture out. the biggest shame is they can't transfer the NFL game to Twickenham, Twickenham just doesn't want football playing there.

the thing is Man C will aim to go all out to win all 4 comps, they will not want to be playing 3 times in 6 days, or 4 times in 10 if their next CL match falls on a Tuesday.

This isn't true. I spent a couple of hours with someone at the end of July who is as close as you can possibly be to this. As in they speak to DL every day. They told me at that point the stadium was 'miles' behind and they had just completed phase 2 of a total of 7 phases. At that time, the build was supposed to be completing phase 5.The Liverpool game at that stage was 'possible but would take a miracle'.

I'm not disputing the legitimacy of the fire safety failure, but that would've been the straw that broke the camel's back. The entire thing is way behind.
You only had to look at the rate of progress over the last 5 weeks to know it was never gonna be ready.

People need to get real.

Nowhere. Near. Ready.

Be prepared for January opener.

Accept it and let's get on with the new season.

Stadium's gonna be amazing. Worth the wait.

Why can't the match just be rescheduled at Wembley the first midweek we have free and available for both teams if thats possible.. I haven't got the energy to check if there is a spare date in nov or dec midweek.

Agreed. Games issued to get postponed because of poor weather I really can't see why a delay in build/ clash with a Wembley fixture can't see common sense sort this one out. It's very inconvenient, but then so was the snow in January etc where I believe a fair few had to reschedule their games across the country.

Didn't we have to reschedule the first game of the season vs Everton back when those unfortunate riots happened as well? There will be ways around it unless people really want to dig their heels in. Hopefully all of this isn't necessary and the first game can be Man City on October 28th

The irony about the city game is you’ve got virtually 4 free weeks at the start of the season the fixture list is completely screwed. If you’re gonna start the season early which was a ridiculous decision anyway at least use the free weeks. There should have been a set of midweek fixtures in August to free up a week in the season. Instead you have a whole month with just 4 games. And come November/ December you’ll have like 10 games in a month ridiculous planning.

I think there is (definitely was) some silly UEFA rule saying that you can't schedule matches for a midweek where clubs from your country are playing in the UEFA competitions except as a last resort. Designed to both maximise the exposure of their competitions and to avoid penalising teams playing in them so that you don't see clubs deliberately not qualifying to avoid congestion etc. So we're not allowed to use those midweeks for the Premier League because of Burnley's participation in Europa League Qualifying.

Entirely agree, if you go on Skyscrapercity and ask the simple question , why haven't they finished the glass roof, why are the eaves done in gaps, why haven't they done any cladding on the east stand for ages, why have no seats been installed in the press box, why haven't they put any seats in the directors box, why haven't the middle tier seats of the east stand been touched in ages, you get told these are all unimportant parts of the build and can be easily rectified in days, my guess is that they are months behind schedule. ( left out all the question marks ? there are far too many questions)
Literally everything you've listed will probably be done before September 15th. Seats take no time to install.

Not sure if its been mentioned but in all seriousness, could we not speak to the LLP and ask to rent their stadium for a few games? surely its in the public interest....

If that's the case, they need to fire the PR-team and everyone who has put a lid on it. Delaying this a month at a time just buries us in bad news once every 4 weeks. Just announce it is delayed until January, rip the band aid off.

If some are so sure that it was nearly ready for September 15th , then why can they no longer estimate it will be ready for October 28th which is about another 6 weeks on ? it doesn't make sense unless there is a very serious problem . If all the visual stuff is easy to install and get ready then what can't be fixed within the next month ?

From the previous timings we will need a test event by 14th October basically just under 2 months away which Mace/Spurs cannot confirm, I just find that odd.

Totally agree. If the club expected the main test event on 1 September and then were taken by surprise that the fire safety systems had failed, then (as a total non expert) can it really take 8 weeks to sort out? - unless the problem is so fundamental in which case they may as well say now that we are at Wembley until whatever date (start of 2019?).

I'm really not sure we should start another riot just to get the game postponed:) but I like the way you are thinking outside the box.

For myself there would be a feel good vibe if they finished the roof and the seating I know it would make no difference to the date that the stadium would be ready for use but seeing the roof and seating finished would make me feel better about the whole thing strangely

Putting a completion date on it as this stage is the worst thing we can do, if it isn't completed by that date can you imagine the reaction? Besides I suspect they are keeping fans and sponsors in suspense by being as vague as possible.
