A positive article for a change, surely this wasn't meant to be released!

Wonder what our fans will moan about now? ?

Probably everyone being too happy about the new stadium. That will definitely come from other fans when it’s opened. Other fans who’ll never even end up going there or attempting to with their clubs.

Just pitching an idea. I'm not saying I even believe this and certainly have no interest in defending it from anyone who blindly calls it rubbish but...

There were various rumours and conjecture about Levy getting the stadium built and ENIC then walking away before a single bit of work had been done, a rumour which has resurfaced. I didn't place a great deal of faith in them back then and I am far from sure that I believe it now however, a few points to consider...
  • Levy's tenure as chairman has been long by modern standards, both in relation to football and businesses in general.
  • The value of the club has been studiously built up over time through careful financial management. There have been hiccups on the field but the trend during Levy's time has been consistently upward. We are now so close to the top of the game in the UK, there is little benefit to the club in terms of value from actually winning the league (especially vs the cost of making it a realistic likelihood), consistent top four was always the goal for financial success.
  • The stadium was a risky capital project which when completed would add value to the club.
All these are obvious, but the dots which I've not seen anyone connect are...
  • Some owners of PL clubs and, presumably many other potential owners also own other teams/franchises. Khan looking to buy Wembley may be because he wants to beat someone else to the punch... not to Wembley, but to the UK. It may well be that Levy has had long-term interest from one of more NFL team owners and the adding of the NFL pitch was something that would make the club more attractive to sell to someone like that, who may also be willing to consider moving their franchise to the UK.
It may be a bit of a stretch, but far weirder things have been suggested. I have no idea what Levy's long term plans are, but as a businessman, he and Lewis may feel that there is little more value which can be added to the club and that they have achieved their goals in terms of capital projects and on-field progression. If that is true, they will almost certainly have determined what their exit plan is and how to sculpt the club to best maximise its potential (specifically its potential to deliver a return to them and the new owners).

Who knows, just a thought, one which I have not thought through in detail and has no solid or provable factual basis, but why not, it kinda makes some sense, right?

London is a huge market, I can see the NFL wanting 2 teams there. Don't think the Wembley/Jags thing is a death knell by any means.

To dare is to do
It should have been obvious -- I thought it would be obvious -- but I would like to clarify, just in case it wasn't. In a key sentence in my remarks, I said the word "do" instead of "don't." The sentence should have been: To dare is to don't. So just to repeat it, I said the word "do" instead of "don't"

If Shahid Khan does buy Wembley, it is probably with an eye of relocating the Jags to London. However this would have to be approved by the NFL and Owners. If they did relocate it would definitely impact us and mean that we wouldn't see any NFL returns post our existing contract.

However, another scenario, less likely I admit is that the London team is facilitated by a league expansion. If that is the case, there is an interesting case for Joe Lewis buying a new franchise. Given you have to be a billionaire, and NFL teams only ever provide return on investment I do wonder if this was/is the plan fro Lewis/Tavistock/Enic.

Its not just the NFL, its about becoming a viable venue for concerts, boxing fights, even tennis competitions potentially.

The way the club has approached this, it is to maximise everything. Revenue, fan experience, technology, probably even headlines and PR although that turned south with the delay. Clubs and their stadiums are now not just football-related entities.

Reports that the FA have agreed the saale of Wembley to Shahid Khan. Can only be monumentally bad news for us if that goes through. He makes Wembley the home for Jacksonville Jaguars = no NFL franchise for us = we spent a phenomenal amount of time and money for a measly 2 games a year and then a possible white elephant after that deal expires.
It's not just the NFL the stadium has been designed to hold other concert events and there will be more of those than the 2 NFL games. so stop worrying about white elephants :)

Let's not forget gaming competitions. Having possibly the most technologically advanced stadium in the country / Europe / the world won't harm our chances of hosting events in this growing market.

If this stadium is anything like as good as it appears to be then watching NFL in it will knock the wembley experience into a cocked hat.

I think the NFL want a euro-NFL competition - they tried it before.
If Khan brings a franchise over, the interest in NFL will rocket, and make a euro NFL viable.

But Wembley is still far too big for euro games, and has limited availability in the spring/early summer. NWHL is also a bit too big tbh, as a London team would be unlikely to fill it at first, but they'll be a euro super bowl that would need a show piece stadium. 60k is ideal for that.

If you want to moan about it every day of your life then go ahead, whatever floats your boat.

longing not moaning, in my case. But I've heard the Trust and individual fans through the media today who are far better than me travelling up to MK who have moaned and have every right to. They're paying their money. Hear the Sunderland stuff today? Fans watching on websites around the corner from the ground are parasites, not fans at all. I can see where he's coming from.

Not really. This a multipurpose stadium. The NFL work will not be completely lost. Plus other NFL owners would not be so set on Wembley. I can still see our 2 games per year continuing for the contracted period.
